BLEEDING THROUGH Slams Record Label - June 6, 2008
The members of Orange County, California's BLEEDING THROUGH have penned a guest blog for Headbanger's Blog in which they publicly accuse their record label, Trustkill Records, of planning to re-release their "The Truth" album without their approval, of failing to pay the band royalties on time, and of only partially financing the recording sessions for the group's forthcoming album. An excerpt from the blog follows:

"It has been months and we have kept silent. But this latest slap in the face from our supposed record label has pushed us over the edge. We just read on the Internet that Josh Grabelle [Trustkill head honcho] plans to release a 'special edition' of our 2006 album 'The Truth' one month before releasing our new album.

"Let it be known that BLEEDING THROUGH is 100% against this so-called 'special' edition. We did not approve the title, cover artwork (whatever it is), track listing or bonus features for this transparent and obvious cash-grab of a re-release from a record label that despite selling a quarter of a million of our albums worldwide is having problems.

"Over a year ago we suggested the idea of a re-release of the album to Trustkill — on our terms, of course, with our artistic vision — and he said he’d consider it if we could land a 'big' tour. We confirmed a tour with MARILYN MANSON and SLAYER, followed by a tour with HIM, and he said 'NO' to us. He thought we should put out a new album instead.

"Now we have a new album finished that we are very proud of and he wants to squeeze our fans and our band by throwing out an unapproved 'special' edition in a fast and overt attempt to pay some bills."

Wow this is yet another tale of trustkill, i.e. their owner Josh, and some really shitty business practices. A year ago Hopesfall, who many on this forum will probably slam as soon as I post this but I dont really give a shit, had a similar situation with trustkill except there situation had been going on for years, no funding for albums, advances late, false album sales figures, and they forgot to fund there tour bus on a few occasions as well, as a result all of the members of Hopesfall are in massive debt and they had to break up because they were in the hole so much, wow trustkill, shitty label, now he does it to Bleeding Through, talk shit all you want just because there not ur brand of metal but that sucks for any band no matter how "metal" you are just admit thats fucked up,

I was wondering when they would have a new album come out. Now I know there's some b.s. at their label.

They're a great band, hopefully they can find another label easily.

Hmmm....well, y'all know that Trustkill's owner spent a TON of cash to sign Bullet For My Valentine after the supposed Sony - Virgin "bidding war" in 04 and 05. I guess he ever recouped it. Ha...this ass munch is going to go bankrupt.

What's all the pissing, moaning, and hating about? I love both KING DIAMOND and BLEEDING THROUGH!!

This is a fucked up situation and once again it probably comes down to money. TrustKill is probably losing alot off of illegal downloading and they feel they're within their right to try to re coup any losses. Obviously BT see things differently. And I see their point.

In the meantime, a KING DIAMOND/BLEEDING THROUGH tour would rule!!

I've worked in the business for a while, especially with one of the labels mentioned in this thread... While I don't know Bleeding Through's exact situation, a ton of cash gets pumped into bands that have huge advertising campaigns like Bleeding Through. It gets to the point where bands have to sell massive amounts of records in order to just break even. I'm not saying it's right that the bands aren't getting paid, but when the label is still in debt, they will do some drastic stuff to stay afloat (ie. releasing some "special edition" of something that is already proven to sell).

It's all perspective...once you start playing the game at that level, with that amount of money...things get very skewed and people gent bent when the rules change.

With all the weird stuff I've witnessed, I firmly believe that technology and file sharing is changing the industry for the better. Smaller labels are able to compete with nationally distributed labels without spending behemoth amounts of money. They can also opperate without all the underhandedness and have an honest relationship with their artists.

It's no longer necessary to sign with a "name" label to get your music out there.

Don't think because the majors are going to collapse soon that indie labels aren't just as bad.
I was promoting and managing a band a while back (Fektion Fekler), and the label that signed them in Europe, Black Flames, was definitely up to no good. I asked the owner for a sales report every month, but everytime it came down to him saying they only sold 50 copies for two months.
No way to prove him wrong, so I had a friend order up the CD. There was no way in Hell, with me and the band getting constant emails about how to buy the new CD that it could have been selling that little. Anywho, the friend was told "Sorry, we sold out weeks ago". 5000 copies in a matter of a couple of weeks!!!! And here he was telling me they were only selling 50 a month for two months!

Fuck the labels!!!

Go back and re-read your contract smart guy. When record labels retain the publishing rights they have every "right" to re-release it in any form they want. Your label probably had to pay out big bucks to land you on those lofty tours and this is how your going to pay them back for all those investments they made on your behalf. But you knew that already, this is all just a charade to maintain your "street cred." This begs the question though; how much cred can a guy who wears make-up really have to begin with?
