AC/DC Bassist On Next Studio Album: There Is 'Nothing In The Works Right Now' - Mar. 21, 2013
David "Gus" Griesinger of BackstageAxxess.com conducted an interview with AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that took place January 24-27 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

On when fans can expect a follow-up to 2008's "Black Ice":

Cliff: "[There is] nothing in the works right now. We're still getting over the last tour, so we're just hanging out and doing stuff. The guys [guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young] are writing material and when they've got some stuff together, they'll give us a holler."

On the AC/DC songwriting process:

Cliff: "[Angus and Malcolm] get a bunch of ideas together — some are more together than others — and then we'll all hit the studio or a little rehearsal room and we'll kick it around with a producer. And then we get in a studio and record, and that's kind of how it runs. The guys, I'm sure, are putting their time in [writing material for the new album] — Malcolm and Angus — but they're not ready for [the rest of the band to get involved] yet."

AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young last year confirmed to Classic Rock magazine that the band is working on the follow-up to 2008's "Black Ice". But he said fans may have to wait longer than expected.

"I've been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band," he said. "We are still working. But we had a long rest between 'Stiff Upper Lip' and 'Black Ice', so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more."

AC/DC's 25 albums became available digitally for the first time on November 19, 2012. All tracks were mastered for iTunes, and fans have the ability to download full albums or simply purchase their favorite individual songs. Fans can also choose from two specially packaged digital compilations: "The Complete Collection", the complete iTunes-exclusive AC/DC catalog; and "The Collection", which includes all 16 studio albums.

Just get out on the road already! There is so much material that has not been played in decades. They do not even need a new album to create a new show.

For the rest of their natural lives and beyond daily without even releasing an album ever again, and they could play Europe, US, Canada and Australia a lot too. Without the need of ever releasing an album ever again, the second part of the show is sortoflike the same anyway.

Wish AC/DC played some songs off Flick Of The Switch on their next tour, hell even Fly On The Wall. Those two records are vastly underrated.

A new album is unnecessary. One more worldwide tour and then call it a day.

Flick is a fucking killer album, maybe their most raw and angry. many hardcore fans here know that.

but i love Fly too. it gets a bad rap but i love every song and it's got some awesome dual guitar work (First Blood, Shake Your Foundations, etc.)

but they will never play a song again from those albums. they acknowledge that they're a band that feels like they must play the hits and they have too man to throw in a song that only a small percentage of the crowd would know.

unfortunate. i could draft a killer setlist from just Powerage, Flick and Fly. in fact, i would pay double to see such a show.

but the boys are really getting old, so i wouldn't expect more than one last tour from them.

greatest live band ever in their time.

No matter how i love those guys, i hope they won't tour or deliver a new album. They just are to old for it now. I don't see how Brian Johnson born in 1947 will manage to endure another world tour.
AC/DC is the fucking greatest and deserves to retire on a high note without the farewell tour bullshit.

1991 - Razor's Edge
1995 - Ballbreaker
2000 - Stiff Upper Lip
2008 - Black Ice

Something tells me these guys are kinda burnt out and not too keen on recording or touring frequently anymore.

Problem is they're all in the 60s or soon-to-be 60s, and they're all chain smokers.

I'm frankly amazed the Black Ice tour was as good as it turned out to be given their ages...but I just CAN'T see them touring as the AC/DC we're used to in 2-3 years. Brian's gonna be almost 70 for Christ's sake.

I hope for a new album from them next year. Black Ice was a really great album with a lot of great 'Hit' type songs on it. Bring another one by before too long, guys!

I heard Brian Johnson on Stern when he was promoting his book and he said we play the hits because most people that go to a AC/DC show its their first time.

One more tour in the smaller venues 10,000. Play three nighters in each city, leave the blow up Rosie and the Train behind, just bring the Bell and the Cannon and play the "classics" not the "hits".

Almost 2 years ago, Angus said they had 'Rooms Full Of Boxes Of Ideas'. I'm the last one to rush the creative process, but come the fuck on.
