IRON MAIDEN Launches 'Trooper' Beer - Mar. 12, 2013
British rock legends IRON MAIDEN have teamed up with Cheshire family brewers Robinsons to create a new beer, Trooper.

Real ale fan and history aficionado Bruce Dickinson, MAIDEN's vocalist, played a major role in developing the unique flavour of the beer, entailing ongoing visits to Robinson's brewery in Stockport. Dickinson's on-stage Union Jack flag-waving military character is an iconic element of the band's live concerts and "The Trooper", written by bassist Steve Harris, is one of MAIDEN's most popular songs and one of the highlights of any MAIDEN show.

Announcing the partnership, Oliver Robinson, managing director of Robinsons, said: "This collaboration — between two huge British success stories — makes for an ideal and natural match; Bruce Dickinson loves his real ale, and Robinsons Brewery is one of Britain's most established and respected independent family-owned brewers."

And Bruce Dickinson added: "I'm a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is Trooper. I love it."

Robinsons has been brewing award-winning beers from its Unicorn Brewery in Stockport for 175 years. Best known for its legendary "Old Tom" strong ale, which was voted "World's Best Beer" by the international Beers Of The World publication, it is Robinsons' younger ales (Dizzy Blonde and "Build A Rocket Boys!" beer; produced in partnership with Manchester band ELBOW) that have lately been causing a stir in the beer world and introducing future ale drinking generations to Robinsons.

Oliver Robinson said: "Trooper is a premium British ale with true depth of character and flavor. For more than thirty years, the unmistakable icon of Eddie, the band's instantly recognizable mascot, has adorned every album cover, T-shirt and poster — so it is fitting that Eddie will now adorn the cask pump clip and take centre stage on the bottle label of Trooper.

"Not only do IRON MAIDEN genuinely enjoy a good pint of cask ale, but so do many of their fans — and they have an important part to play in our customer base. This partnership works for both of us. Music and beer are great treats for the senses in their own right, but the combination is very powerful. Authentic collaborations such as this are invaluable not only to our company but to the industry as a whole, because it shows that the world of real ale is more than just manufacturing, it is liquid artistry by the people who brew it — and for the people who drink it."

Fans of both IRON MAIDEN and real ale can sign up to get news and updates on Trooper Premium British Beer from www.ironmaidenbeer.com, where bottles will be available to purchase by both U.K. and overseas customers from May 2013.

You take my beer and I'll take yours too
I'm gonna order me another brew
So when you're waiting for the next rounds
Remember that you have to pay in pounds

The bugle sounds the charge begins
the first one to the bar wins
The smell of cigarette smoke and toxic breath
Some jerk in the bar is quoting Macbeth

Get the car ready for a beer run
We like to play darts for fun
As we race towards the beer can wall
Someone's getting hit because he made them fall

We roll drunks that lay on the ground
And the russians buy another round
We get so near, yet so far away
I guess we won't get our beer today

We get so close near enough to get
A frothy refreshing beverage cool and wet
He pulls the bell and I start to fall
I can't believe we just missed last call

As I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
As I lay there forgotten and alone
Without a beer I draw my parting groan

People talk shit on here when bands put out a beer. I think it's cool as hell. I'd rather support a band by buying a sweet looking beer bottle than some lame hoodie that is 75 bucks.

Awesome, big fan of microbrews. I'm still bummed I can't find the Clutch beer from Fat Tire. My friend who's tried said it's just ok, but then again he's not really big into craft beer.

EHG has a black ipa out and COC has a raisin porter coming out that's named after them.

Dark beers > everything else

I'm sure that everyone who criticized Geoff Tate for selling wine is also criticizing Slayer for selling wine as well and now Iron Maiden for selling beer now. Right? RIGHT?

Let's see....Maiden has sold t-shirts, posters, patches, buttons, tourbooks, 8x10 photos and other merch since the very beginning of their professional career, and you don't even think twice about that...but now there are Maiden sneakers and beer, and that's supposed to be a "cash grab?"

You people really can't think outside the box, can you?

Band-branded booze is apparently good business....you've got Slayer, Motorhead, Queensryche, and a bunch of others doing this nowadays. And why not? It's a band-related product that can't be downloaded and distributed for free.

the fact that iron maiden has not released their own signature beer much earlier is surprising. I figured they would've done this before any other band band except for Kiss.

I initially thought..oh fuck not Maiden too!, but at least this is a long-term relationship with a good brewery and a special recipe specific for this brew. It's not like they're slapping Eddie's face and the Maiden name on a can of Budweiser.... Or like many bands have done with the wine (including maiden I think), slapping their name and label on any old run of the mill Merlot.
I'm on the fence about the whole bands moving into the liquor biz, but whatever, man... if the brew is good, that's all that really matters in the end. You can't drink the label.

and... we don't like Tate for many many more reasons than the whole wine thing. He was actually doing it long before it was 'the thing to do'.

oh and for the record, I have no problem with band's promoting products. The era of selling millions of copies of CDs are gone and the era of millions of pirated copies is upon us. the bands need to make up that money any way they can. As long as I'm not forced to buy it

Can you imagine the SHIT people would give KISS if they did something like this? Why does Maiden get a free pass?

I'm all for it, by the way. But why do Maiden and Motorhead get a free pass when putting their name to merchandise and KISS gets practically crucified for it?
