Former OZZY OSBOURNE Guitarist JAKE E. LEE Names Solo Band - Mar. 7, 2013
According to "Tales From The Stage Volume 1" author Michael Toney, former OZZY OSBOURNE and BADLANDS guitarist Jake E. Lee has set JAKE E. LEE'S RED DRAGON CARTEL as the name of his new project, obviously referencing the axeman's Japanese roots. The group features Ronnie Mancuso (BEGGARS & THIEVES) on bass and Jonas Fairley (BLACK BETTY) on drums. The lead vocalist position is almost solidified, but details are still being worked out. The only information that has thus far been provided is that he hails from Canada, and certain logistics need to be ironed out prior to a formal announcement.

In the process of recording his new album at Las Vegas' The Hideout Studios — owned and operated by Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, IN THIS MOMENT) — Lee's first new release will feature a combination of legendary rock artists and some of the biggest names of new metal. Already recorded are guest appearances by Robin Zander (CHEAP TRICK), Paul Di'Anno (IRON MAIDEN), Maria Brink (IN THIS MOMENT), with many other big names attached to the project.

Toney says: "The two new tracks that I have heard [from JAKE E. LEE'S RED DRAGON CARTEL] are very impressive, and are incredibly fresh sounding — but not really in the same family as [Jake's] work with BADLANDS or OZZY. It's still hard rock, but perhaps a bit more melodic."

According to the All Music Guide, Lee helped Ozzy Osbourne score two of the most commercially successful releases of the singer's long and illustrious career — 1983's "Bark at the Moon" and 1986's "The Ultimate Sin". Lee eventually joined up with another former BLACK SABBATH singer (albeit briefly), Ray Gillen, and formed the LED ZEPPELIN/classic rock-esque outfit BADLANDS. Subsequently, Lee played briefly with a band called WICKED ALLIANCE before setting off on his own, issuing his solo debut, "A Fine Pink Mist", in August of 1996.

Jake E. Lee's "covers" album, "Retraced", was released in the U.S. in April 2005 via Shrapnel Records. All the songs were recorded in a "power trio" format ala BADLANDS and the tracks for the project were cover songs along that style (bluesy power rock).

Always been a fan so bring it on. I always think he's just going to disappear forever when he goes on his sabbaticals.

Bark At The Moon is one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever. And the albums Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin are highly underrated.

Looking forward to more activity from Jake E Lee.

killer of giants..one of the greatest Ozzy songs with incredible guitar work. George Lynch was actually already selected to replace randy and at the last minute Oz changed his mind and decided on Lee. BATM and TUS wouldve never been had another guitarist had been chosen

...makes me lament the early loss of Ray Gillen. What a great frontman.

Will definitely check out anything Jake puts out. I enjoyed the Ulitmate Sin show I saw. Metallica opened for Ozzy at the Madison Square Garden.

If space aliens ever come down and ask what guitar is supposed to sound like, I'd play them the first two Badlands albums. You will not find a more true, raw, and technically proficient example of guitar.

When Jake is good, he's great, but when he does all these little side projects, I think it takes away from the name he built. I hope this project is well done and they get a great vocalist, because it's time to hear some more Jake!

I was just listening to a live bootleg of Ozzy at the Us Festival the other day. I was blown away by the solo in Over The Mountain. Jake F**kin' nailed it!

I've been waiting for him to make a return for a long time. I watched That Metal Show Vegas Special because they billed him as being on the show. And all it was just a small comical bit with him on a cell phone in a theater. I was pissed. I sat through a lame ass interview with Vince Neil just to see Jake for like 5 secs. I can't wait to hear what he's going to release!

Jake is such a great player, so glad he is going to be back out there again making music and playing shows.

His Ozzy stuff was great, and Badlands was fantastic. There's only a handful of bands that truly understood how to make melodic hard rock that perfectly blended soft and heavy and they were one of them.

There's a great bootleg DVD out there from that tour - I think it's called Bark at the Moon Live or something generic like that. Pro-filmed - pretty good quality.

No disrespect to Randy but Jake was always my favorite Ozzy guitarist. Like others have said those Badlands albums were badass and Jake's limited work since then has been pretty awesome too. Cant wait to hear this.

Ozzy was mad at jake because this was his idea... https://www.google.com/search?q=Ozzy Osbourne 1985&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=9-E4UZS6NIP29gTP4oGYAw&ved=0CC0QsAQ&biw=1600&bih=775#hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=Ozzy Osbourne 1986&oq=Ozzy Osbourne 1986&gs_l=img.3..0i24l2.85640.86035.2.87387.2.2.0.0.0.0.105.196.1j1.2.0...0.0...1c.1.5.img.WH1qFFG2xiw&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.43287494,d.eWU&fp=eef91cb4f59fee58&biw=1600&bih=775&imgrc=fIyNT8TXNocCkM%3A%3BXH0LKd125JJvsM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fjammagazineonline.com%252Fimages%252Fconcert-reviews%252F198605%252Fozzy%252F001.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fjammagazineonline.com%252Fcr198605-ozzy-osbourne.aspx%3B250%3B372

I saw Badlands live everytime they came to the NY area back in the day. Awesome band. I turned so many people I new on to them, we could not believe they never made it as big as they should have when all the shit hair bands got tons of airplay because of MTV.

No mention of Sass Jordan in the recordings? She's Canadian but just joined up with Brian Tichy in S.U.N.

Anyhow, I'm glad that Jake is back to recording some serious music again. He was amazing in his prime, and as someone above said, his first two Badlands CD's are precisely what guitar should sound like. He is truly a complete guitarist, able to move from hair metal, to metal, to shred, to blues hard rock, to industrial metal, to Vai-esque, and now to his new project. Can't wait to hear it. He's been my all time favorite guitarist for nearly 3 decades.

I've never seen this fucking guy live and it's bothered me for years. Please do a good proper tour. It's so fucking lame because you know there will only be 50 people at the shows but I will be one of them. Bring some cool posters and not just a bunch of black t-shirts to sell. Obviously bring the cd
