SCOTT WEILAND Kicks Off Solo Tour In Flint; Video Available - Mar. 4, 2013
Former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland kicked off his solo tour this past Friday, March 1 at The Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Weiland recently said about the 20-city run of dates during which he is performing songs from the first two STONE TEMPLE PILOTS albums, 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple". "It's going to be really exciting — something completely new."

Regarding how the concept for the tour came about, Weiland said: "Well, originally, it was an idea I came up with for STP for the anniversary of 'Core' to do the 'Core' album in its entirety. The rest of the guys didn't want to do it. So, it was still something that there was a lot of public interest in. Having that said, the idea was brought up to me through management. I talked to the guys in my solo band, THE WILDABOUTS, and they were totally into it, as were the promoters. It worked out."

He added: "We're still going to do some of our space jams and have them correlate into some of our STP songs and a couple STP songs into a couple of the covers that we've done during our solo band stuff."

As for the upcoming studio CD, Weiland described it as "more of a rock 'n' roll album, as opposed to more of the sort of outside-the-box artistic sonic adventures that we've gone on in the past.

"The record that we're making, hopefully will attract more of the STP and VELVET REVOLVER fans. I think it will also help that we're doing this tour this way."

Weiland and THE WILDABOUTS have not yet secured a label deal for the upcoming album, which they are producing themselves. He says of the process: "[it] isn't hard, unless you have a group of guys like STP where every single person in the band is a producer. It's not as difficult in this situation. We're writing together. It's actually a lot easier. We're allowing everyone to put in their input and it's coming across much more as a rock 'n' roll record, but it's much more organic sounding."

THE WILDABOUTS consist of multi-instrumentalist Doug Grean, bassist Tommy Black, drummer Dan Thompson and guitarist Jeremy Brown.

Like a bad cover band. That keyboard is annoying. Not a very attractive group.

Sure would be nice if the bass player learned how to play the intro to "Wicked Garden" properly, seeing as he does it for a fucking living.

Same with the entire damn band for the bridge in Wicked Garden. A first year guitar player could figure out that the figure alternates.

Bunch of incompetent hacks, with a leader who is too pilled out and drink to notice or care.

And Naked Sunday. OUCH.

What the band REALLY needs though, other than at least one decent set of ears amongst them, is more scarves onstage!

Can't play the songs worth a fuck, but they've got the scarves!

This show was very hit and miss. He did a great job on the covers (Mountain Song, The Jean Genie, Roadhouse Blues, Can't Stand Me Now) and his solo song Paralysis....Wicked Garden and Interstate Love Song were good...he butchered Crackerman (screwed the lyrics up) and forgot the bridge on another (think it was Kitchenware and Candybars). He was really weird any time he tried to talk. A lot of people left early....overall not worth it.

...And after seeing this - "I.P.I.H.B type phantom appear pronto\stat." - makes me
confirm the worst.

What's the deal here?
Is there no orange juice resale depots available these days?

You guys said and covered it all.

$35? No way I'd pay that. Scarves? Who are they, the Right Said Fred's of the 00's? Only nailing covers? Uh, the bar near me has a band each weekend for $5 and sweet deals on pitchers. Denial from being fired from a band he created? Ah, they put up with enough of his shit for the last 20 years-I'd be done, too.

Once again, all you faggots are talking about some man's cloths. Bunch of TMZ sissy fucks. I'm sure you are all looking really stylish in your 8 year old concert shirts and walmart nascar shit.

How can you judge a video from a fucking sell phone? NOTHING sounds good on a phone camera.

I've actually been to this venue when visiting family. The Machine Shop holds 400 people and YES I would pay $35 to see one of the greatest frontman to ever live in this small setting. The venue is awesome. Clutch plays there 2 times a year and it doesn't get any better.

Mr DirtyWaterDog,

I like your comment. You can spell "faggot" right but not "clothes" or "cell phone." You're a well-spoken guy. Great comment. Keep them coming.

So you condone getting on stage looking like a Walmart employee or the local steak house maître d'?

You're probably full of metal yourself but were born with a bald head, hair lip and fat ankles -so you're one of these Nu-Metal clowns wearing a gasoline shirt getting up on stage thinking it's ONLY the music that matters. WRONG.

You need SOME attraction element . . . you retard.

If you're a fan of Weiland, you were probably 11 years old when STP came out, and thought they were cool when you saw them on MTV while eating your afterschool snack.
