RATT: First Five Albums Remastered For 'Original Album Series' Box Set - Mar. 4, 2013
RATT's first five albums — 1984's "Out of the Cellar", 1985's "Invasion of Your Privacy", 1986's "Dancing "Undercover", 1988's "Reach For the Sky" and 1990's "Detonator" — have just been reissued in the U,K, through Warner Bros. under the "Original Album Series."

A description reads: "The five-CD box set contains a quintet of albums packaged in cardboard mini LP sleeves and housed in a slipcase. This collection of RATT's first five albums covers the years from 1984 to 1990 that saw them have significant commercial success. Tracks such as 'Round And Round', 'Wanted Man' and 'Lay It Down' helped define the glam metal genre, while their later output such as 'Way Cool Jr.' and 'I Want a Woman' featured heavily on MTV. Originally hailing from San Diego California, RATT were a key figure in the formation of the '80s Los Angeles hard rock and glam metal scene."

RATT has tapped Brian Howes, who has previously worked with HINDER, DAUGHTRY and PUDDLE OF MUDD, helm its new album, tentatively due before the end of the year via Roadrunner Records. RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer recently stated about Howes: "Brian is a great guy, great producer, and he's top notch, dude. He's a current A-lister, and we're very excited."

Regarding the songwriting process for the new RATT album, Blotzer said: " Everybody's been writing and everybody has a backlog of material. So we'll just get in like we did with the last record, and there's, like, boom, 35 songs, and then we'll let the producer go, 'OK, let's work these up.' He's got the final say on that. I mean, the last record we worked up in two weeks."

He continued: "I don't think [the new RATT CD is] gonna be super overproduced. I think we're trying to do something new, and really, on all levels of RATT — have everything come out and be a new RATT. [We'll still have] classic-sounding songs, but it's gonna be, obviously, a twist in the production with the way that [Brian] produces."

Original RATT bassist Juan Croucier rejoined the Californian rockers for their show at the M3 Rock Festival on May 12, 2012 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

RATT's first studio record in 11 years, "Infestation", sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 30 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was issued on April 20, 2010 via Loud & Proud.

"Infestation" has sold more than 50,000 copies in the U.S. so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's a shame they came around the same time Motley Crue took off. Motley Crue had the image, while Ratt had the better music.

I've seen this at FYE and it's the normal, non remastered pressings...at least in the states. If they are remastered in the UK but not the states, they are probably just compressed, boosting volume and losing their dynamic range like most remasters these days. Unless Audio Fidelity remasters them, I think the original pressings are the best we'll ever see.

I guess in this case the original pressings are the way to go. All this "loudness war" thing is screwing up how music should sound.

That's what the title should read. Maybe i'm wrong but i don't think these were remastered. I'd love to have Dancing Undercover remastered though.

I'm all for this, but am I the only one that gets pissed when bands do new CD's in stupid cardboard boxes (that eventually lead to scuffing on the discs)?

New album later this year? Best news I've read so far in a few days....

Kreator69 needs to take that shit back to the Hoffman forums where fantasy and ignorance reigns supreme. These bozos believe using the same compressor and settings as were used on vinyl in the 80's for the CD is worse than a 14-bit CD from 1982.

These need to be remastered like the Fates Warning albums. A more state of the art analog compressor and some EQ all done in the digital domain to bring the levels to where the digital and analogue components work in their most linear regions.

Someone gave me a box of LPs not long ago. In that box was an original Time Coast pressing of the Ratt EP. That was pretty cool. Same box had March Of The Saint.

I love RATT, but every album after Invasion of Your Privacy sounds the same, they should have done like the Crüe and done a totally different sounding album each time.

Still, great band, great songs.

about just rerecording all of them. That would be killer. Remastering, a lot of times, yields marginally better at best records.

Not a fan of the Hoffman forums, I just know that 99% of the remasters out there are compressed to hell and back just to boost the volume and they suck all the life out of the original recordings. No dynamic range, and clipping- like the Judas Priest remasters- ever heard the Defenders of the Faith remaster? I'm ok with the original Ratt pressings- for 80's productions with a lack of bottom end they still sound ok. If you want remastered Ratt, get their Tell the World compilation- that's all they did there was boost the volume. The Ratt & Roll comp is good and the track listing is good too- that and the original pressings are all I need unless a "good" remaster comes out, but I don't see that happening. Yes, they lack bottom end and aren't loud, but that's what the volume knob and an EQ are for, you can crank them without them sounding like garbage. Rhino is known for having crappy, loud remasters. If these are remastered, which I've not seen anything saying they are except this article, I wouldn't count on them being good remasters.

I don't think it is fair to lump Ratt in with "Glam Metal". Back then we referred to them as "Sleaze Metal" or simply Heavy Metal. I mean really, they put out some great classics, unlike the true Glam garbage (Poison, Bon Jovi, Nelson, Enuf-Z-Nuff etc).

Anthrax (except ATL)
Metallica

I thought most hard-rock fans already owned these classic gems!?!?

If you're looking for Remastered Ratt, check out: Tell The World: The Very Best of Ratt. It's got almost 20 songs all remastered in 2007, incl. a song from the Self-Titled album or Portrait album. + a live version of Way Cool Jr.

That is a nice addition, for under $10.00 download AMZ.
