COREY TAYLOR Says He Never Gave SLIPKNOT Bandmates 'Homework' For Next Album - Feb. 25, 2013
Although it has been reported on some blogs and web sites that SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor gave the rest of the band "homework" to do for their next studio album, he tells Artisan News that he was misquoted. "I never fucking said that," Corey says. "What I did was is I asked them to jot down their feelings, no matter how good or gnarly they are, about [late SLIPKNOT bassist] Paul [Gray] and about his passing and how it affected them. 'Cause for this album — if and when we make this new SLIPKNOT album, which will probably be a while; it'll probably be a year and a half, two years — for this to work, everyone has to have a voice on this album. And I refuse to let it be anything other than that — whether it's riffs, whether it's lines, whether it's full-blown songs; it doesn't matter. Everyone needs to have a voice on this album or it's just not meant to be. So I've been encouraging the guys to kind of just write stuff down, no matter how trivial they feel it is, just write it down and give it to me, and we'll find some art in it."

Taylor told Loudwire that SLIPKNOT will play five festival shows this year, all overseas, and that other, unnamed members of the band are "getting healthy and trying to stay healthy," although he did not go into detail.

He mentioned a similar timeline in that interview as well, saying that the band would begin demoing material in late 2014.

SLIPKNOT's last U.S. performances were its own Knotfest shows, which took place last August in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Somerset, Wisconsin.

SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray died in May 2010 from an overdose of drugs — a devastating tragedy which brought the other members of the band closer together and helped them reconnect after they grew apart through years of touring and success.

"We had all stretched ourselves into different lives for the most part, and then we lost Paul," Taylor told DesMoinesRegister.com in August. "It was such a shock to us that it made us sit up and look at what we were doing with our lives and how we were toward each other. We were so close in the beginning, then for whatever reason we all drifted apart here and there.

"Losing someone like that, a great friend and an amazing brother — someone who is so important to the band in so many ways — you start to look at what you take for granted."

Gray made his final recorded appearance on SLIPKNOT's 2008 album, "All Hope Is Gone", which was certified platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in August 2010 for shipments in excess of one million copes in the United States — the band's fourth consecutive full-length release to achieve the milestone.

How long ago did their loser junkie bassist off himself? 2 or 3 years ago?

I got a better idea. Why don't they all just fucking overdose and the rest of us can spend the next 500 years mourning their passing and processing our feelings about it. Fuckin' self absorbed egomaniac douchebags in clown suits!

But all this crying about the bass player is fucking pathetic. Bands loose important members all the time and move on, just like families and friends. It is sad when loved ones pass away but you keep living. It makes more sense to write some songs while you are in that painful stage of anger and mourning than waiting 5 years to do it when you finally moved on.
Cliff Burton was an important part of Metallica and those guys moved on.

I personally hope they never release another track much less an album...My opinion isn't based around them losing a member or any other sort of dramatic reason,I just think that after 'Iowa' the material went to sh*t..However I did love going to their shows '99-'06,all great performances.

fuck this asshole.. this douche is so full of himself.. what kind of person uses someones death like this all he talks about is how the band cant go on without its junkie bassist... for two years hes been beating this dead horse.. in 2011 fuckface 2013 we would see new slipknot.. then all of a sudden this douchebag wants to do a double album.. thats a concept album instead of releasing them at the same time to speed up the process of this shit sour tour.. instead he draws it out longer now a world tour playing both shitty albums each night.. in 2015 there wont be a new slipknot disc out bet on it.......FUCK YOU COREY

Here's an idea; when someone prematurely dies, why not LIVE for them rather than sitting there blowing each other and wasting time. If Paul was the heart of the band, I'm sure as fuck he would have slapped you by now and said hurry the fuck up and write music and stop holding things up with your shitty other band.

They should hire the bass player who is quitting Machine Head.

Perfect fit, and the guy is looking at helping with the songs.

It's perfect.

From the comments, I may be one of the few people on here who actually think your Stone Sour stuff is pretty fucking good. What gets me though, is that you won't come out and just say that Stone Sour is your priority right now. You want to do a full blown tour, as you should, for the rest of the year and into the next. Fact is that unless you decide not to take even a day of vacation, 2014 would be the earliest Slipknot could reconvene. This whole crybaby bullshit holds no water since you're all over the fucking radio, enjoying more mainstream success than you ever did with Slipknot. But as for the crybaby bullshit, the Redskins played one game with ten men on d, then it was business as usual. Metallica took a couple months off (granted Cliff had only been a part of the band for like four years at the time). Ted Kennedy died, but did the Senate stop working? Oh, fuck they haven't done shit since Kennedy died, have they!

I saw that interview and he indeed use the term " homework".
Now maybe it was taking out of context or he was trying to be
funny per usual but he did say that..
Problem is he shoots his mouth off so much he has to back peddle when confronted..
The homework line he used was out of sarcasm.
I was a fan of his from.99-03 but in 04-05, he started rambling, getting
political, ripping other artists, did that shit show open read of his book tour
which was poumpass..
The mystique of corey taylor/8...RIP

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize Paul's death is just an excuse at this point and isn't the reason why Slipknots next album is taking forever to be made

Bottom line Corey wants Stone Sour to be as big if not bigger than Slipknot. I honestly wouldnt be the least bit surprised if he quit SK if SS ever got that big. I mean Corey resurrected SS in 2002 to leave SK for Christ sake.
Jim Root although doesn't interview as much, he is in the same boat. One interview Jim did that comes to mind is one right before Paul's death while recording audio secrecy. He basically said SS needs at least 2-3 SS albums back to back with no SK albums in between for SS to be a success. His reasoning was SS would put out an album build a fan base then disappear for a few years due to SK, then when the next SS album came out they would have 1/2 the fan base and have to start over again rebuilding.

Fact of the matter is SS is Corey's band and both Corey and Jim have more freedom with SS. I just feel bad for the rest of the guys from SK cause their waiting on these guys so they can regroup and make an album that might never happen. Although SS isn't as successful as SK its still more successful than anything other members of SK have tried to do. So I hope the other members of SK invested their money good, cause they might be waiting around for nothing.

Biggest bunch of overrated, overpaid clowns this side of Hellyeah.
I won't use the word musicians to describe this band. The amount of
jockish, brainless thug, WWE loving poseurs that these guys brought into the once underground metal scene is unbelievable.

I yearn for the days that there was a Metal scene without the likes of Corey Taylor and "Slipknuts".Garbage music for people who should never have anything to do with Metal.
