TOOL Marks 21st Anniversary Of 'Opiate' With Commemorative Limited-Edition Package - Feb. 25, 2013
TOOL will release a handcrafted, bonus-laden, limited-edition package of its original debut EP, "Opiate", on March 26 to mark the 21st anniversary of the six-song release.

The anniversary edition is limited to 5,000 copies and features art direction by Adam Jones, illustrations by legendary artist Adi Granov and design packaging by Mackie Osborne, who has collaborated with TOOL on many albums, including "10,000 Days", "Lateralus" and "Salival" as well as posters and merchandise.

The 5,000 copies will be broken down as 5 x 1,000 runs with each set featuring a variation of the exterior graphics and included bonus items which include a new stereoscopic image for fans to use with their glasses from the "10,000 Days" packaging.

The packages will only be available via TOOL's web site on March 26 and there will be no pre-orders. A limit of three packages from each of the 5 x 1,000 versions will be in place. More details to be announced soon.

Success and critical acclaim can breed apathy. Sorry to say this is the case with Tool.

Now how about a new record for those of us who still care? It's been seven years now. Time to stop being on Axl Rose time, lads.

How the fuck can you call them money-grubbing when they only put out an album every 6-7 fuckin' years and don't tour especially often??

They're never put out any concert films or greatest hits or live albums aside from an out-of-print box set from 2000.

Think, people. THINK.

They've toured every year since 10,000 days was released. They charged 100 dollars retail the last time they rolled through here for practically the same setlist they've played since the release of 10,000 gays that Maynard still can't be bothered to sing half the lyrics to. They charge 40 dollars for a concert t-shirt, 100 dollars for an autographed gig poster. Maynard is slinging desert wine and cut rate trip hop while covering other people's music because he no longer has the ability to deliver on a proper Tool album. Danny is selling hemmoroid pillows on his website for Christ's sake. These guys used to rarely give interviews, or show their faces for that matter, now you can't get em to shut the fuck up. Why? Because they're getting paid. With the exception of Justin, how can't you call them money grubbing?

don't wanna see the same setlist don't go to the show, it's easy to look up before you buy the ticket, I've seen em three times in the last six years and have never paid $100 or more for floor seats. I have old "classic" shirts don't need to buy a new one, They don't do 1/100th of the interviews that let's sat Dave Mustaine or Lars Ulrich do, and no where on wine bottles or hemmoroid pillows are the words tool displayed. As far as music is concerned they don't owe you anything ... listen to the new stuff when ever it comes out or don't, who the fuck cares

A very talented band but for whatever reason I could never get into them (Might be due to the fact I can't stand Maynard).

you know what, come to think of it, I think Tool were serious when they named their last album 10,000 Days because maybe they really meant it'll be 27 years for their next album to come out?

Tool is a band, not a job. They don't owe anyone anything, and it's up to you to spend your money however you'd like. But bitching because Tool is a money grab? Blame the fanbase. People project all this bullshit onto being a band as if they're politicians or something. Their only responsibility, like any rock band, is to write music they're happy about as people. If you feel stupid for spending money stupidly, that's on you, but you only sound stupid and petty when you dictate how others should treat their own art.

Tool will release an album, and everyone will still go crazy over it. But it will be released when Tool are ready for it to be released, and your only real say on the matter is whether or not you choose to listen to it.

I loved Opiate and thought they were going to be a HUGE band. Then they released the same disc ,4 times in a row.
Its like painting and only using the same 3 colors. Boring.

I'm pretty sure you're retarded if you think that A. Tool aren't huge and that B. All of their albums sound the same.

Say what you will, but these things just aren't true.

Opiate & undertow are awesome then their output is all the same to me, same sound and interchangeable songs. First two were very different though, the green machinist is correct.

...and ALL their discs sound the same. Dont get me wrong ,Kyuss kinda all sounds the same too, and I love them. I get that there is some actual "art" going on in the music too, but that "sound, or "tone", or whatever you want to call it, is fucking boring.

I love Opiate, but I'm not going to buy it again for a new picture. Tool can have my money when there's new tunes.

Fact is, Maynard's a prick. I feel bad for the other three guys as they're sitting around while "little Napoleon" is out trying to prove that he's more than just the singer for Tool. He's failing. Pussy-fur sucks. He's more than happy to step up to the Tool ATM when he needs cash and do another overpriced tour we all saw in 2006. I wish Adam, Danny and Justin would just dump Maynard and release an instrumental album!!

first saw Tool in summer of '93 when they played lolapalooza, nobody even knew who they were and the crowd just stood there. Now 20 years later theyve become one of the biggest bands in the world.

What idiot thinks Tool are not a huge band? They tour the world for years and years after a release? How much bigger can a band that doesn't right radio friendly music get?

Every single Tool article gets some dicknose fan quoting "think for yourself" or, "Tool doesn't owe you anything". It seems you are the only one who doesn't get it.

I am fan of Tool's music, but some of you fans needs to seriously get the fuck over it... You are not in some kind of 'secret club'. You listen to a band enjoyed by MILLIONS of other people... The only difference is that while you sit on forums discussing the secret super meaning of Lateralus, the rest of the world gets on with life.

great band, and despite all the bullshit - i'm looking forward to this release! For every dickhead fanboy, there is an equally retarded Tool basher.

Just look at all the Maiden re-issues, and tours, and DVDs - total market saturation, but if the fans want it - they'll buy it and in turn the band will churn out more, simple as. last time they toured in Europe was 2006/07 - so, a tour over here is well overdue.

I'd imagine there will be extras: unreleased songs and multimedia content that will make this release worth purchasing.
I really don't buy this "rip off" angle being touted by some on here...
