DAVE MUSTAINE: STRYPER's MICHAEL SWEET And I 'Believe In The Same Jesus' - Feb. 24, 2013
STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet is putting the finishing touches on his autobiography, "Honestly", to be made available later in the year. There is also a 12-song solo record to go hand in hand with the release of the book.

According to Sweet, his "friend and brother," MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was "kind enough" to write the following blurb/quote for the book:

"Sometimes you see someone or something and you think you got it all figured out, just to find you were pretty far off base. That's a sucky feeling. I learned a long time ago not to judge a book by its cover, and as much as I used to think that I am nothing like Michael Sweet, I have come to realize that we both have had a lot of hardships in common; the same trials and tribulations, the same band problems, and some of the same relationship issues. Fortunately for us, we both believe in the same Jesus, and serve the same amazing, loving creator, so it's no wonder that we would both be standing on the same victorious side of life, once all the smoke clears at the end of the fight. I hope you will enjoy his memoirs and come to a new understanding and a new appreciation of Michael Sweet."

Sweet previously stated about his upcoming book: "Writing and finishing my autobiography has gone WAY beyond my expectations, good and bad. It's been much more difficult than I could ever imagine yet it's been somewhat therapeutic being able to talk about my life and the past 30+ years of all things STRYPER. I get into everything and share things that may surprise you. I talk about the disfunction in this band, the pain and heartache of being so close to each other that we sometimes hurt each other the most, the ups and downs from our highest point (1987-1988) to our lowest point (1991-1992) and why we were driven to bankruptcy and how we climbed our way back from complete loss and despair. I share my personal pain from considering to give up music altogether to the day I broke the news to the guys that I would be leaving the band and why. From that day forward, I had everything a man could ask for and then, in what seemed like an instant, it was all taken away.

"I'm almost 50 yet I feel like I've lived the life of a man who is almost 90. I look back on everything and all I can say is thank you God for allowing me to serve you and for giving me my gift, my life!

"'Honestly' will be available soon and I can say from the bottom of my heart, it is brutally honest and my hopes and prayers are that it touches you in some way."

Michael's new solo album will be issued via Big3 Records. Guest musicians set to appear on the CD include CHICKENFOOT drummer Kenny Aronoff, FOZZY singer Chris Jericho, WHITESNAKE guitarist Doug Aldrich; Tony Harnell of TNT, and Michael's brother Robert Sweet and STRYPER's Timothy Gaines.

Regarding Harnell's appearance on the CD, Sweet previously stated, "I think Tony is truly one of the most underrated singers of all time. He's always been one of my favorites and is an incredibly nice, humble guy to boot. I've always wanted to work with Tony and I knew this would be the perfect song and opportunity to do so. 'Taking On The World Tonight' is very heavy with a combination of old-school riffs and solos yet it's got a very modern, relevant sound as well. It's the best of both worlds!"

"Sometimes you see someone or something and you think you got it all figured out, just to find you were pretty far off base."

... and sometimes, people continue to follow religions...

Seriously, how can a guy that talks about "a creator" say the above with a straight face?

I hate Stryper with a blinding passion unmatched by any other, but what the heck is Dave smoking?

At least Michael Sweet was always a jesus freak.

Mustaine: "Fortunately for us, we both believe in the same Jesus, and serve the same amazing, loving creator, so it's no wonder that we would both be standing on the same victorious side of life, once all the smoke clears at the end of the fight."

But you're still living off the royalties from records you made 20+ years ago when you didn't give a flying frig about god.

You still get paid for "The Conjouring" for fuck's sake!

The hypocrisy is just staggering.

There's a big difference between believing in Jesus because you're Christian and "believing" in Jesus because it makes you controversial and furthers (hinders?) your career.

True story:

Back around '90 or so, just before high school, I was talking on the phone with a friend about the music we liked (hard rock and metal). We were talking about Stryper, and then for some reason the conversation shifted to Megadeth, in particular their 1st album. For whatever reason I read him the lyrics to "Loved to Deth," and when I was done he was astounded. He was like, "Whoa, they actually wrote that?"

Turns out that somewhere in the course of the conversation he missed that we went from Stryper to Megadeth, and thought I was reading the lyrics to a Stryper song!

So now whenever I hear "Loved to Deth," I can't help but think how my friend thought it was a Stryper song.

I'll admit here and now that I basically thought Stryper were the biggest fags around just based on their pictures and Megadeth was one of my favorite bands 20 or so years ago. Time has most certainly shown that Dave is a fake and Michael Sweet was and still is the real deal. I'm not a Christian but I admire Michael Sweet sticking to his beliefs in the face of tons of adversity. Mustaine is in need of a lot of forgiveness and obviously suffers from self esteem issues to this day. Again, Michael Sweet sees how badly the guy needs to be saved and therefore is acting according to the teachings of Christ - love him or hate him, he's more of a man than most "rock stars" out there. I will buy this book.

Ohhh Dave Mustaine. How the bad ass has fallen. What a hypocrite!
Mustaine used to loathe and hate stryper. He made fun of them numerous times in old interviews I have read/seen. Megadeth defined "bad ass" back in the 80'/early 90's. Everyone has a right to change their personal beliefs in whatever god they choose (satan, jesus, superman, batman), but don't be a fucking hypocrite. For example, Glen Danzig was a satanist and is still a satanist, that is his thing. At least he isn't a hypocrite. And if he was to change his beliefs, I would hope he would shut the hell up about it. How would it look if he was to go Christian and start partnering up with Stryper? Same applies to Mustaine in a way, although Mustaine wasn't really a "satanist", just a full on heathen and junkie.

Michael Sweet was always into God/Jesus, and made no lies about it. He was not a hypocrite. He never ran down mainstream metal ever, and he is a fan of all the bands they covered on "the covering" including Dio, Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, etc.

And the funny thing is that since Stryper reformed their live shows are more "metal" than Megadeth recently. More shred, more riffs, more killer solos, and more metal screaming in the classic sense. I saw both bands live in the last several years, and believe it or not Styper was heavier, more exciting, and had more energy live.

Stryper puts on a great live show also.

He has lost half his fanbase in the last few years due to his rantings. Just read a few posts in the last year on Blabbermouth, and see the droves of people who have thrown out their megadeth cds, or said they will never support Megadeth again. Get it?

Kind of like your hero Geoff Tate, who lost all his credibility in the last few years! Legend becomes Douche.

Mustaine's Jesus probably believes the moon landings were faked, aircraft are dropping poisons on people through their contrails, that juice boxes are turning kids gay (Alex Jones *actually* claimed this) and that everyone that ever went on a murderous gun rampage did so because they were victims of Project MKULTRA.

I dunno much about Sweet's beliefs, but if I was his Jesus I'd be pretty pissed off right now!

I don't care if Dave Mustaine believes in Jesus or not. I think it's pretty stupid, considering the only thing you have to base any faith on it at all is a book that's not only 2000+ years old, but the entire passage of his life and existence wasn't even written until 300 odd years after his death, and this all before recording devices or the internet, 300 YEARS of hand-me-down stories collected....

But whatever...if you want to believe in that and call it "real" by your own estimation, I think you're pretty fucking stupid or at least ignorant of the fact that it's probably 99.9% bullshit and the remaining .01% of it is historical fiction. Still, fine, whatever...I just don't want to hear about it every 3rd interview.

"How many Jesuses (Jesii?) are there?"

The characters that the Roman emperors adapted to form the Jesus Christ story are:
1-Horus
2-Attis of Phrygia
3-Zoroaster/Zarathustra
4-Glycon
5-Heracles
6-Dionysus
7-Romulus
8-Odysseus
9-Krishna
10-Buddha
There are others that predate the Christ stories but those are the most common. The myths were re-written mainly in order to pull those of Jewish faith into the new Roman Christianity while consolidating the followers of other faiths to further strengthen the Roman Empire.

It's pretty sad when one professes to believe in something heart and soul but yet doesn't understand the origins of what they are supposed to believe in. That's called being a sheep or herd mentality or just being an idiot. But like most, Dave is too busy running his mouth about his faith in his mythical Jesus to actually know what he is talking about.

Now it's obvious why the drumming on the last few Megadeth albums has been dull and boring... It's because Michael Sweet has actually been drumming for Megadeth under the pseudonym "Shawn Drover"! He's okay, but he should really stick to the singing. :P

"So Dave Mustaine is religious. Big deal. As long as he isn't hurting others why should anyone here care?"

Yea I don't get it either, doesn't bother me if someone believes in God or not. But it does irk me when they attack others for it.

But because most haters on here likely live in mom's basement, have poor self image and lack maturity, it brings them up and is easy to sit here and be negative and put other people down for their beliefs, it takes no guts whatsoever.

However, it takes a lot more strength and courage to put your faith in a higher power to help yourself and to do the right things in life like get clean and sober and try and help other people. Do you really think the blabberhaters try to help anyone out in life, or try to better themselves and try to live a righteous life? I highly doubt it.

I do believe Jesus Christ was an actual person, so the reference here should be to God, as that is where the real battle of beliefs is. Don't know why they refer to believing in Jesus, since his existence is factual. Which makes all the knee-jerk hysteria from the atheist crowd at this statement all the more hilarious. It's like saying "I don't believe Obama exists". He is, after all, you peoples' messiah is he not? i don't think there's any question he actually exists, just lots of disagreement about the reality of who he actually is, as with Jesus.
Sorry, I know logic doesn't fly well here, sorry to fuck you up so much.

"I do believe Jesus Christ was an actual person"
"Sorry, I know logic doesn't fly well here, sorry to fuck you up so much. "

That's not logic.
Your belief is faith and is not backed up by logic or evidence. Belief prevents the objective questioning and research necessary to investigate the subject of belief. You are a victim of mental programming but due to the cult protections and circular reasoning inherent in the Abrahamic faiths, you cannot recognize actual logic and evidence when it is before you. The mental traps are viscous and very clever in order to keep the flocks docile.

The Bible is the best selling book of all time. The situation today is that many seminaries do not teach that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, but instead teach that it is at best the writing of great men. This sentiment has grown in Christian circles to the point that even many churches do not teach the Bible, and many church people no longer consider the Bible their standard for faith and practice. The men who wrote down Scripture said they got their information directly from God. Thus, the Bible claims to be the very words of God. It claims to be true and right. The records in the Bible are presented as actual occurrences, not fables or fairytales. It gives evidence from science, history, and prophecy that only God could have authored Scripture-man simply could not have done it. Once all the evidence is considered, it is apparent that the Word of God is indeed what it clearly claims to be-the very Word of God; a clear communication to people from God. It is not a book to be ignored, it is the key to blessings both in this life and in the life to come. For generations, people have trusted the Bible. It has guided, encouraged, and comforted millions of people who readily testify to its life-changing impact. It is the best selling book of all time, and not by a small margin. It is the cornerstone of Western Civilization and the document upon which our nation’s Founding Fathers based our Constitution. Its ethical standards have launched freedom movements, and its laws and regulations have guided lawmakers, judges, and jurists by the score. It has inspired great works of music and art, including songs, sculpture, paintings, plays, and movies. Its graphic portrayals of heroes and heroines have captured the imagination of young and old alike. On the other hand, it is also perhaps the most criticized document in history. Literally thousands of books have been written giving “evidence” that it is not true. Typical of false witnesses, the detractors often contradict each other, and their logic is faulty. Opponents claim that it is “just a book written by men.” Some critics say its main character, Jesus, never lived. Others acknowledge that he lived, but claim he never said what the Bible says he said. Others acknowledge that he lived and that much of what is recorded in the Bible was what he said, but assert that he was not literally raised from the dead. And so it goes. Like the false witnesses at Christ’s trial, their testimonies do not agree (Mark 14:59). The best way for you to decide whether you can believe the Bible is to weigh the evidence for yourself. I trust that when all of it has been loaded onto the scales, you will find that the Bible is reliable, trustworthy, and 100% believable. Questioning is a normal and healthy part of learning. Every teacher I know loves students who ask questions, because it shows they are interested and learning. God certainly does not mind when we ask Him questions. Furthermore, God has answers to our questions. The Bible is full of answers on all kinds of subjects. God gave us a command to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). Some people act as if an intellectual pursuit of God is either unnecessary or ungodly. However, God created our minds so we can think using reason and logic, and He is the One who said we should love Him with “all” our mind. We cannot do that if we are not fully convinced that the Bible is true. James 1:5 says "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him". It is very important, however, that we understand the difference between questioning and doubting. I believe that many people who say they “question” the Bible actually mean they “doubt” it. I say that because, most people who have told me they “question” the Bible are not really looking for answers. They do not trust God, and are comfortable living with doubt and unbelief about Him and His Word. If the Bible is true, however, it is not wise to remain comfortable in unbelief. We are pleased when people trust us, and God is pleased when people trust Him. In fact, the Bible states clearly that “without faith trust it is impossible to please God.” (Heb. 11:6a). God can answer questions and help us believe if we search for answers, but God cannot stop our doubt and unbelief if we are comfortable with them. The Bible is written in a way that shows it is not just a book of oral traditions. The characters are depicted in ways that are inspiring, heartwarming, true to life, convincing, and convicting. They have their good points and their human weaknesses. In reading about them we read about ourselves, because their humanity is so well portrayed in Scripture. Furthermore, the details, place names, and geographical descriptions in the Bible are written with the accuracy of an involved and knowledgeable eyewitness. That eyewitness is God. The richness, depth, and historical accuracy of Scripture are in sharp contrast to the exaggerations, the historical inaccuracies, and the shallow and one-dimensional portrayals of characters in legends, folk history, and mythology. It is occasionally stated that the Bible has been copied and/or translated so many times that it has become unreliable. The actual evidence refutes this idea. The text of Scripture was copied, yes, but not to the end that it cannot be trusted. In actuality, the fact that the Bible has been copied over and over enables us to be sure we have a biblical text that is very close to the original. This is easy to understand. Another fairly common misconception about the Bible is that it is in some way incomplete, i.e., that it has books missing. The 66 books that compose the modern Bible are known as the “canon,” a theological word that means, “the books of the Bible officially accepted as Holy Scripture.” Some doubters of the Bible think church councils constructed the Bible by arbitrarily choosing the books they thought should be included. Furthermore, these people often assert there are many other books that should be in the Bible. These are sometimes referred to as the “lost books” of the Bible.

Before addressing the issue of whether or not any God-breathed books were left out of the Bible, I would like to make a personal observation. In my years I have had the opportunity to personally speak with perhaps twenty people who subscribe to the theory that there are lost books of the Bible, and I have noticed something interesting: those who criticize the Bible by claiming it is incomplete do not conduct their lives according to the books that are included in the Bible. This is hypocritical because if the Bible is missing books, then the parts we do have become even more valuable. If pirates have most of a treasure map, they do not throw it out because it is missing a piece. Instead, the part they have becomes even more valuable, and they study it with great intensity. Critics of the canon do not live by the books that are included in Scripture. Almost without exception they use the theory of the “missing books” to ignore the Bible altogether. It is clear to me they are not trying to restore a faulty document. Instead, they are looking for an excuse to ignore the Bible, and they find that excuse by questioning the canon. The Church did not “create” the canon as the critics assert; rather, they recognized it. From the time God first spoke His Word to people and told them to write it down, there have been other writings that were not “God-breathed.” There were enough books circulating in the ancient world that Ecclesiastes, which was written more than 900 years before Christ, says, “...Of making many books there is no end...” (Ecc. 12:12). Some of the books existing in biblical times contained material substantiating Scripture. A few of these are mentioned in the Bible, including, “...the book of the annals of Solomon” (1 Kings 11:41b), “...the annotations of the prophet Iddo” (2 Chron. 13:22b), and “...the annals of Jehu...” (2 Chron. 20:34b). Even though these books are mentioned in the Bible, and supported it, they are still not “God-breathed,” and are left out of the canon. They are lost to us today precisely because the people of the time knew they were not “God-breathed,” so they did not carefully preserve them and pass them down from generation to generation as they did with what they recognized to be the God-breathed Word.

Before “books” were invented, Scripture was kept on scrolls, pieces of rolled up parchment or leather. Scrolls existed centuries before what we today call a “book,” which is a number of pages bound together on one side. Book format came into common use around the time of the writing of the New Testament. Since the pages could be written on both sides, paper was conserved, and books were easier to read from and carry than scrolls. Before the book format, the larger writings, or “books,” of the Bible (such as Genesis, Joshua, Jeremiah, etc.) were usually kept on individual scrolls, and it was customary to write several of the smaller books (such as Joel, Amos, Obadiah, etc.) on one scroll.

The fact that Scripture existed on scrolls has been used by people who criticize the canon. They try to make it seem as if all the scrolls of the Bible, as well as dozens of others, were just “floating around the Christian world” until some Church committee, hundreds of years after Christ, decided to put some of them together and make one official book. That is not what happened. By the time the individual books of the Bible were bound together as one book, they had been read, revered, loved, preserved, and recognized by generations of believers as truly being “the words of God.” In contrast, the non-canonical books were recognized in the community of believers as not being from the mouth of God.

God had the whole Bible in mind when He first told Moses to write His words on a scroll, translated “book” in most versions (Exod. 17:14). The writings of Moses were known as “...the Book of the Law of Moses...” (Josh. 8:31). The fact that the Law of Moses was recognized to be “the words of God” throughout Israel’s history, including the time of Christ, shows that the books recognized by the people were carefully preserved and handed down, not just as history or nice prose, but as the Word of God. The same was true for the psalms of David, the proverbs of Solomon, the prophecies of Isaiah and Jeremiah, etc. By the time Church councils undertook the task of compiling all the loose books into a single volume, those considered as “the Word of God” were well known and loved in the Christian community.

There are reliable tests that have been used to determine whether or not a book is a part of the canon, such as:

Was the book originally written by a confirmed prophet of God?
Does the message contain the truth of God?
Does it have in it the power of God to change a person’s life?
Was it accepted by the people of God? Those alive at the time the book was written were the best qualified to know and preserve it and pass it down.

There is a very good reason why Christians do not include the “lost books” in the Bible—they are not Holy Scripture. The people who wrote them were not accepted as “holy men of God” in their own generations, as were Moses, Samuel, and other biblical writers. Furthermore, reading and studying the non-canonical books shows they are not “God-breathed.” They were not accepted as the Word of God at the time they were written. They are full of historical inaccuracies, fanciful stories, outright falsehoods, and contradictions with the rest of the canon. Since the average Christian has probably heard of the “lost books” of the Bible, but more than likely has never read any selections from them, inserting a section here from one of the more popular apocryphal writings is appropriate. GOD isn't the Author of any confusion. ? 2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so "that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." Just take a look at your decaying society and rejection of truth!

Quite the sermon above. No time to analyze it and find holes in your logic, but a couple quick points preacher:

Your American founding fathers were not Christians, but were Freemasons and athiests. Do a little research. I have.

Secondly, most of the bible is from word of mouth and passed on stories. Not saying all are wrong, but have you ever heard how a story can change between ten people, let alone hundreds of years. Most people could not write and read back then. There were no printing presses, ways of recording conversations or events accurately. Just saying to use a little logic when you believe everything said was word for word.
