Video: VOLBEAT Performs With Former ANTHRAX Guitarist ROB CAGGIANO For First Time - Feb. 22, 2013
Former ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano made his live debut with Danish metal rock 'n' rollers VOLBEAT this past Tuesday, February 19 at Store Vega in Copenhagen, Denmark. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Caggiano served as producer on VOLBEAT's latest album, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies", alongside longtime production partner Jacob Hansen, who produced and mixed the band's prior four albums. Caggiano's other producer credits include THE DAMNED THINGS, BLEEDING THROUGH and ANTHRAX, and he was a member of ANTHRAX for two tenures — from 2001 to 2005 and again from 2007 to 2013.

VOLBEAT singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen stated about Caggiano's addition to the band: "The collaboration with Rob in the studio was so inspiring and in good spirit that we the decided to keep him. Basically we went into the studio as a three-piece and came out as a whole band!"

Added Caggiano: " I came to Denmark to produce the new VOLBEAT record which in and of itself has been an incredibly exciting adventure from a producer's perspective. However, I'm extremely happy to say my relationship with these guys will not end there as it turns out... it's just beginning!

"Michael had asked me on the phone before I got out [to Denmark] if I would play some guest solos on the new album in addition to my other duties, and, of course, I was thrilled about that and agreed to do so. When I actually got to Denmark and started going through the material, this turned out to be so much more than that.

"After weeks of collaboration between Michael and I, it became quite clear that we had an amazing creative chemistry together and a huge mutual respect for one another.

"It's so refreshing and inspiring to be creative again on a songwriting level that words can't even describe it and the vibe between Anders, Jon, Michael and I is just awesome. I'd say an artistic relationship like this one is very rare and it's also something I don't take for granted.

"When the guys asked me if I was interested in joining VOLBEAT, my jaw just about hit the floor! It actually didn't even register in my brain properly until the next morning, but I gotta say, it also didn't take me long to decide. It really isn't the way I envisioned the rest of my year to play out but at the same time, THIS feels more 'right' to me than anything I could have possibly imagined and I'm going for it!"

VOLBEAT's fifth album, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies", will be released on April 9 (one day earlier internationally) via Spinefarm/Universal Music.

VOLBEAT will embark on a North American headlining tour in the spring. The trek, which will feature support from DANKO JONES, will kick off on March 6 in Dallas, Texas.

VOLBEAT in 2011 parted ways with guitarist Thomas Bredahl, who had been a member of the band since 2006. He was replaced on the road by MERCYFUL FATE's Hank Shermann

His hat is already part of his head.

Maybe he is getting bald and don't want to show it.

I don't even consider myself a fan of volbeat, a lot of friends of mine really dig them.
I was there when they played clubs with 300 ppl in attendance when you'd hang out doing shots of jäger with them later on, and then you turn around twice and they're opening for metallica, megadeth and the big 4 shows.

I hardly know of any other band in the hard n heavy genre that made it big in such a short amount of time recently - maybe not so much in the US.
kinda reminds me a bit of what happened to pantera between 89 and 92.
respect where respect is due.

good for rob. he did not look very happy when I saw him with anthrax the last time.

dude that last words of your post are totally spot on. I saw them here in Houston twice last year and even when they were headlining at Warehouse Live - Rob looked totally uninterested.

I was right in front of him on the stage and you could see the rest of the band w/ smiles and totally digging everything and I don't think this guy broke a smile once.

His guitar parts were great as usual but there was something definitely missing. You could totally tell he was going through the motions and I found myself paying more attention to the rest of the band instead. He was almost just a fixture that night.

I saw Anthrax with Rob twice and didn't think he's a guy capable of looking like he's enjoying the playing - he seems happy here. Good for Rob, judging from his own comments Scott's anus is evidently sore over the fact that his former henchman is now a real member of another succesful band. Let's just wait till they reunite with Spitz and he says Anthrax had really only one lead guitarist.

dan spitz' other band red lamb is not very good. Was hoping to hear a straight ahead thrash metal album from dan spitz his guitar solos ruled.

Volbeat's singer sounds exactly like glenn danzig's misfits vocals. Try being original for a change I know its not easy to be nowadays when every style of music has been played; but just copying the misfits vocals is really generic.

Good comparison. My wife said the singer sounds like James Hetfield meets Sully Erna.

Although I was very surprised with how much I liked the last Anthrax, I think this is a great move by Rob. He seemed a hired gun by Charlie & Scott, and he will have more input in a band that probably has more upside than Anthrax.

And I am not sure it is just a Euro thing. Case and point, in NYC - Anthrax/Exodus is playing at Irving Plaza 04/20 and Volbeat is playing Best Buy Theater 04/09 - a bigger venue, and NYC is practically Anthrax's home.

I love Volbeat, but get why some do not.

Good for Rob.

I know this is not important for a lot of people or bands but Volbeat has a certain vibe and look that Rob doesn't seem to have. He looks out of place....sorry just an observation.

Volbeat is one of my favourite newish bands and Rob being in the band now will only make them better. He will also probably be much happier as well, I saw anthrax last time in Toronto and he looked like he wasn't really into it.

I'm old enough to have seen a shit-ton of bands from the 80s hair stuff to a lot of more modern metal bands. These guys put on one of the best shows you could ever ask for. I have seen tehm in smaller venues to being on Gigantour last year. A lot of energy to them. Personally I liked Hank. He was as cool and nice to meet as the rest of the band but good luck to Rob.

Volbeat is best experienced in a live setting. And if the sound man gets it right, Volbeat will kick your aural ass. This is not to say the band's recorded output sucks - far from it.

It makes me happy to know the band is still charging forward.

VOL: volume. BEAT: your ass.

...but Rob should stay. I did think stepping all over the first part of the song was not needed, I hope he isnt going to be wanking all over everything ,all the time.
Cool band, now if they could just put out a complete, solid disc ,they would explode.

I bet he's relieved that he doesn't have to learn any more Dan Spitz solos. Oh wait, he never bothered to learn them in the first place. Fucking hack!
