MESHUGGAH Frontman To Sit Out Charlotte Concert - Feb. 13, 2013
MESHUGGAH frontman Jens Kidman will be forced to miss the band's concert tonight (Wednesday, February 13) at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina while he continues to recover from the flu that caused his absence from the group's performance last night in Atlanta, Georgia.

In an online posting, Kidman said: "I just need to say a few words here guys. I'm truly unable to perform tonight. Again.

"Me not being able to do what I'm supposed to do is really really frustrating and I feel that I'm letting you all down. Not just you, the fans, but the band as well.

"But we try to make the absolute best we can out of this situation.

"So it's either cancel OR play for you guys anyway. We opt for playing. It's what we're here to do. So that's what we'll do. With your help, it'll be awesome.

"I will see the doctor again tomorrow and will hopefully get a green light to perform in Philly. Fingers crossed.

"So a big humble thanks goes out to all of you for your support and understanding!!

"Let the mayhem commence, Charlotte!!!"

Fan-filmed video footage of MESHUGGAH's concert in Atlanta — where the band reportedly used a lifesize cardboard cutout of Jens Kidman and his pre-recorded vocal track from a European show — can be seen below.

MESHUGGAH is currently touring North America with ANIMALS AS LEADERS as direct support and INTRONAUT opening each evening.

This continent-shifting, sonically devastating tour launched in Orlando, Florida on February 11 and will run through March 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A previously unreleased MESHUGGAH track, "Pitch Black", is available for free download as a two-track EP from Scion Audio/Visual, (a.k.a. Scion A/V), the in-house record label and lifestyle marketing division of the Scion marque produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market. In addition to the "Pitch Black" title cut, the EP includes a live recording of the "obZen" song "Dancers To A Discordant System".

MESHUGGAH's latest album, "Koloss", has sold more than 40,000 copies in the United States since its March 2012 release.

but most of thier riffs are interchangable, without the vocals no one will know what song is being played.

I wonder if they're giving patrons the ability to return their tickets? I love the band but I dunno if I would wanna go to a show that was only 4/5 of what everyone else was getting... Just sayin

These videos show how professional a band is when they can use vocal tracks from a previous live performance in sync with a current live performance. It's easy for them. Keep time always (use metronomes {live as well}).

I have loved Meshuggah since I found them (late as a blooming 7-stringer) in 1998.

That's the exact thought I had, and people are complaining about Jens not being there. Sure, I'd be disappointed, but that's pretty phenomenal seeing them pull off the songs playing with a vocal track like that. I'd much rather see that than take a refund and sit at home.

I'm both impressed and surprised at the reaction of a Kidman-less, vocal-less Meshuggah concert seems to be getting. Personally, if it were me, I would be pissed off beyond belief. The musicianship is top notch in that band, but it's really one of those bands where vocals are required. Not even his, but get anyone worthy to front the band for one night only. I would bored and exhausted if I listed to just the music.

Such a good band that they can get away without needing a vocalist.

Love this band. I would much rather hear them instrumental than with some stupid cutout and prerecorded vocals. They are so unique, a chance to hear them without vocals would just be another cool to take in the greatness. Get well Jens!
