HALESTORM Wins 'Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance' GRAMMY For 'Love Bites (So Do I)' - Feb. 10, 2013
HALESTORM was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 55th annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. HALESTORM was nominated for the track "Love Bites (So Do I)" , from the band's 2012 album "The Strange Case Of…"

In his acceptance speech, HALESTORM drummer Arejay Hale said: "I've gotta thank my parents — our parents — for turning us on to great music. Most parents want their kids to be doctors and lawyers, and our parents encouraged us to join the circus. So thank you, guys."

Added HALESTORM singer Lzzy Hale: "Thank you to our fellow nominees. If it wasn't for your inspiration…. IRON MAIDEN, for heaven's sake… LAMB OF GOD… We would not have written this song and been in this category."

In the Grammy press room, Lzzy added, "[This] wouldn't have been possible without these people, specifically, LAMB OF GOD. We were inspired by the guitar part … and we wouldn't have gotten into hard rock if it wasn't for MEGADETH and IRON MAIDEN, so it's just amazing.”

Speaking about the camaraderie in the genre, Lzzy explained, "It's an incredible genre to be a part of because rock isn't always the most popular genre. Sometimes we're underground, but we all work really hard on the road. We all look out for one another."

Lzzy told The Pulse Of Radio that the band was in its natural state — playing live onstage — when they got the news of their Grammy nomination in early December. "It was just in time for the piano ballad, so I'm just kind of sitting by myself and Joe [Hottinger, guitar] runs across the stage, he's like, 'We got nominated for a Grammy!'" she said. "And I'm like, I mean, I must have had at least 30 seconds of just pure, like, shock on my face. [laughs] 'Really? Are you serious?' I still can't wipe this stupid grin off my face, I'll tell you that. But it was a very cool moment for all of us."

"Love Bites" hit No. 1, making HALESTORM the first female-fronted act in history to top the Active Rock chart.

The nominees in this year's "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category were as follows:

ANTHRAX - "I'm Alive"
Track from: "Worship Music"
(Megaforce)

HALESTORM - "Love Bites (So Do I)"
Track from: "The Strange Case Of..."
(Atlantic)

IRON MAIDEN - "Blood Brothers"
Track from: "En Vivo!"
(Ume)

LAMB OF GOD - "Ghost Walking"
Track from: "Resolution"
(Epic)

MARILYN MANSON – "No Reflection"
Track from: "Born Villain"
(Cooking Vinyl)

MEGADETH - "Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)"
Track from: "TH1RT3EN"
(Roadrunner)

Nominations for the 55th annual Grammy Awards were announced on December 5, 2012 by The Recording Academy and reflected an eclectic mix of the best and brightest in music over the past year, as determined by the voting members of The Academy. For the fifth year, nominations for the annual Grammy Awards were announced on primetime television as part of "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! — Countdown To Music's Biggest Night", a one-hour CBS entertainment special broadcast live for the first time ever at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

This year's Grammy Awards process registered more than 17,000 submissions over a 12-month eligibility period, October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012. Grammy ballots for the final round of voting were mailed on December 19 to the voting members of The Recording Academy. They were due back to the accounting firm of Deloitte by January 16, when they were tabulated and the results kept secret until the 55th Grammy broadcast.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards are produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich is executive producer and Louis J. Horvitz is director.

HAHAHA Take that Mustaine! That was what, the 11th time he was up for one? If a band says they don't give a fuck about the grammys, they are lying.

Knew they would take it from the start, either them or Maiden. Because I know how they operate over there. You know Megadeth isn't gonna win cause if they were they would've by now. Anthrax isn't gonna win for the same reason. Lamb of God has been nominated before, but they're too extreme to win. Manson isn't gonna win just because, he's like Ministry years ago, kinda popular, but not enough. COngrats to them & good luck for the future.

Hmm I've heard of every band on there besides the band who won. Sounds about right for the grammy's. The US has to have the worst idea of music in the whole world. Business as usual for the grammys to give it to another artist that here today and gone tomorrow.

I really thought Maiden would win, just as a sort of 'career' award. I actually figured that the Grammy people know that they are considered a joke and that it would be easy and smart to pick Maiden, who at this point are pretty safe, massively huge, and deserving. But, they made the laughable choice again. The idea that Halestorm in any way represents the 'best' in the hard rock/metal genre is hilarious! Oh well...

I'll start taking the Grammys more seriously when those bastards vacate Jethro Tull's 1989 award, or when they stop nominating songs that are 30 years old using the whole "live album" loophole...or when they AGAIN split the Hard Rock and Metal categories (which was the aftermath of the Jethro Tull controversy in the first place)!

Oh well, there's a damn good reason why I'd rather watch the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, anyway! Why the fuck would I want to be constantly subjected to this Lady Goober, or Shady Perry, or whoever these bubblegum pop singers are at every fuckin' turn, just to find out the result of ONE category, and most of the time that result isn't even shown on the live telecast?!

The guitar player Joe was being an asshole to fans talking ebay shit. Funny, considering how fairly new the band was and he was acting like that. Imagine his head now with a grammy. Congrats!

metal and hard rock were their own separate categories? They try and ignore anything heavy as much as possible so they combined the two...

I just looked up all the nominees. There is about 3 or 4 separate categories for Rap, R&B, Dance, Country - Best song, best album, best duo/group, etc...

It's the same shit every year so i don't know why this surprises some of you that this fuckin' band won.

The only great song was Blood Brothers and its probably ten years old. It should have never been nominated in the first place. Halstorm's Love bites is at least was a OK song sung by a great singer. The rest were turds from probably the most disappointing albums of the year. Overkill should have been nominated. Electric Age was a beast of Thrash album with plenty of killer songs to choose from. It made Anthax and Megadeth look washed up this year.

I've heard of this band but never actually heard them before. Just checked it out and it's an OK song, can see why it would win something like this. I don't think the likes of Overkill or Testament are ever likely to get nominated for something like this sadly and as much as I love Maiden it would have been ridiculous to say the best metal song of the year was one originally released 12 years ago. Best not to let this sort of insignificance bother you really. I mean, shit, my favourite metal song of last year would have been something by either Sigh or Enslaved, I doubt anyone at the Grammys has even heard of them!

I agree with the other posters about Testament being overlooked. The Grammys once nominated King Diamond for "give me your soul please", so I don't think Testament is not big enough.

However, the problem is that merged both the Hard Rock and Metal category into one award now. We all know that Hard Rock and Metal are two distinct forms of music. For example, the recent Van Halen and Aerosmith albums are not metal, and shouldn't be in the same category as Slayer.

Halestorm is under the major Atlantic label so they had the advantage. I was surprised that Soundgarden didn't get a nomination for their comeback album due to their name.

Why Devin Townsend didnt get nominated is beyond me.

I gave this song a listen and it is not good at all. Not sure what prerequisite for a win is.

Heard that song million times before.........not orginal at all.
