METALLICA To Perform National Anthem And Throw First Pitch At Giants Vs. Dodgers Game - Feb. 7, 2013
METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"We're psyched to be teaming up with the World Series champs for the first ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday, May 3! When the Giants take on their arch-rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers, we'll be on hand that night to kick off the game with the national anthem and first pitch, joining the orange and black fanatics with METALLICA vibes and shenanigans throughout the evening to cheer on the team for the first home Dodger game of the season.

"Special event tickets for the game go on sale this Saturday morning, February 9, at 8:00 a.m. PST here. The special event ticket package includes a limited edition METALLICA/Giants hat with a portion of the ticket sales donated to the Bill Graham Foundation, which strives to give grants in the area of music, the arts, and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. Met Club members should log in to the site and watch their e-mail for details about how they may purchase tickets to the game early.

"For more details, click here and we'll see you at the game!"

It's rare that someone besides a pop singer get to do this. I'm not a big Metallica or baseball guy, but this is kinda cool.

Interesting! I can't imagine how a metal band will pull this off. Will James stick to the melody? If so, I doubt he can hit those high notes. Or will Kirk handle the melody Hendrix-style? Maybe the whole thing will just be instrumental?

Now, if we could get someone to sign them to do the Super Bowl already. Enough with the lame halftime shows. Maybe if Oakland plays, they will do it? Bah! - that'll never happen.

If I remember correctly, the Super Bowl halftime gig is decided around the Week 11-Week 13 range. I don't think the venue or teams involved matter much (hell, Prince performed halftime the same year the Vikings had a win-loss record bad enough to pick Adrian Peterson). Now granted, my favorite bands are not "household name" enough to warrant that pick, so as a compromise, at LEAST get Metallica, or KISS, or Rush, or Van Halen (which was speculated this year), or AC/DC, or the Scorps! I mean, those bands are perfect for Super Bowl halftime, and they're all "big name" enough to attract a large audience!

the national anthem is so daft and boring that the only time anyone ever listens to it is if theyre forced to.

they could work out the definitive version of a heavy metal anthem--

to where it utilizes the heavy parts/guitar harmonies---tight--better than hendrix

then just build and build---to where at the end--the people just want to rip the stadium to freakin pieces
-0--

then have one of the band members throw the first pitch--like a 3 yr old girl/toddler--

I see those hats selling for big bucks on Ebay after the game.

...Metallica were originally from LA. SF is more of an adopted city...they relocated there only to get Cliff in Dec of 82 I think?

The only thing I'm aware of as far as Metallica's sports loyalties are concerned is the fact that James is a Raiders fan, and if my memory serves correct, Kirk's profile on the band's official website stated back in 1999 that he has no favorite teams because he "hates sports". Since Metallica has been in SF since late 82/early 83, I guess it stands to reason that the band would back the Giants (and for the record, Cliff was NOT the only reason Metallica moved to SF from LA; they had done SF shows when Ron was in the band, and by all accounts, the band was MUCH better received in SF than they were in LA). I don't have any CA ties, but from what I understand, Metallica's move from LA to SF (and the glam vs. thrash thing in general) combined with sports rivalries involving both cities probably suggests a cultural rivalry between the two cities (although the Dodgers/Giants rivalry goes all the way to the Brooklyn/New York days).

However, since this is about baseball, I'm gonna stir some shit here...Anthrax's favorite baseball team is better than Metallica's! GO YANKEES!

You've got to be kidding -- Giants two World Series wins in recent years, Yankees one, for starters. Giants can go all the way again, Yankees still hoping they can buy the Fountain of Youth with all their money.

Now are you going to pull the usual Yankees fan response? You know, "27 championships, how many does your team have?"

27 is still bigger than 7! If the Yankees are NOT better than the Giants, then obviously Bill Parcells is a liar! You are what your trophy case says you are!

Metallica have also announced to perform the national anthem with Daniel Tosh as 5th band member. Lars stated: "Having someone like Lou Reed along with Metallica, we figured we needed someone else who doesn't fit with Metallica's music for thos one as well." Daniel Tosh was too busy farting on his writers to comment, although a writer told him to say that.

American baseball team competing against other American baseball teams and its called the World Series ?
