METAL CHURCH Singer Doesn't Rule Out Permanent Reunion - Feb. 7, 2013
The reunited METAL CHURCHRonny Munroe on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Jay Reynolds on guitars, Steve Unger on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums — celebrated its official reunion on board 70000 Tons Of Metal, the world's biggest heavy metal cruise.

For one of their two shows on board, they played their debut album, "Metal Church", in its entirety. The other show was a "greatest-hits" set.

Fan-filmed video footage of their performance can be seen below.

Speaking to Metal As Fuck, Munroe stated about the possibility of a new studio album from METAL CHURCH: "We've got plans. We're going to start working on a new record and maybe do some festivals this summer. We'll keep everyone posted as soon as we make up our minds on that. We wanted to see how this went, and it went very very well. Kurdt has sent me a couple of things here and there, but it's nothing really that has stuck yet. We pretty much stopped doing that to focus on [70000 Tons Of Metal]. So when he gets back, he's got a few things to do, and then he's going to bury his head in writing some new stuff. It'll be phenomenal. He's a great writer. I'm really looking forward to it."

Asked if this is a permanent reunion, Munroe said: "Well, time will tell. We'll do a record, and we're just not going to do things the way that we did before. We're not 25 anymore. [I'm] not saying that we're old, but we need to do things the right way."

Added Plate: "Everybody understands that this is a complicated business. A lot of things had to fall into place. We gotta get a good record put together and done first; to be honest, that's the first thing. There's a distance between some of the bandmembers, but that's really not so much of an issue. It’s really getting the music to the ears of the fans, in their hands and then getting with someone who can put us in the right environment, at the right show, working with the right band."

METAL CHURCH called it quits after performing at the Rocklahoma festival in July 2009 in Pryor, Oklahoma.

"This Present Wasteland", the latest album from METAL CHURCH, sold 920 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD artwork was submitted by a fan via a MySpace contest.

METAL CHURCH's previous album, "A Light in the Dark", came out in June 2006 via SPV. The LP included a new version of the classic "Watch The Children Pray" as a tribute to vocalist David Wayne, who passed away in May 2005.

I wish these guys would hit it big again, but they're so mismanaged by Vanderhoof that I can't see it happening. How do you reverse 25+ years of mismanagement by him?

Again, does ANYONE here know where Mike Howe is and why his name is never mentioned in any of these Kurdt Vanderhoof cover band news tidbits? Also my best friend's wife just had their first child and he STILL hasn't told me what they named him!

Maybe they named the kid Mike Howe. Wouldn't that be ironic?

Yes, I would also love to see the band fully functional. "Light In the Dark" and "This Present Wasteland" were great - love Ronny as a vocalist. They'll never match the first two records, but that's like hoping Metallica will make another "Ride The Lightning" - ain't gonna happen. Hopefully, they can do a proper tour - Jeff Plate can show fans what he's really capable of behind the drums. He doesn't get to display his full attack with TSO.

If Flotsam and Jetsam can make a comeback like they did, so can Metal Church. It's Vanderhoof that's their perpetual problem.

The guy couldn't even stay in his own band in the 80s.

PS- Mike Howe has a family and business. So he ain't coming back for peanuts. Ronnie is more than adequate, but the band has to put out something stellar and get proper management and a label to market it.

I know there Kurdt Vanderhoof is the only original member in this lineup but 'The Weight of the World' worked for me.
So even though guys like Duke Erickson have a long history with the band, the only other original member I really miss is Kirk Arrington....

After establishing themselves with incredible albums featuring both David Wayne and Mike Howe, I find Ronnie to be an extremely weak singer. His voice just has no power. I can't stand to listen to them with him. It's sad.

for one, can't wait for a new record. Their last one with Munroe was their best with him, imo. I bought it and ALITD online and I love them both.

Metal Church without Mike Howe just doesn't interest me. I've tried and I'm a HUGE fan of this band

Left the music business

Metal Church founder Kurdt Vanderhoof reported that Howe has retired and is living in Tennessee with his family
