Former AC/DC Drummer CHRIS SLADE To Celebrate 50 Years As Professional Musician - Feb. 4, 2013
As if he isn't busy enough around the world with sold-out shows in Brazil, Europe, Russia and USA, former AC/DC drummer Chris Slade has launched a new band THE CHRIS SLADE TIMELINE to mark 50 years as a professional rock musician.

The band is set to tour Europe throughout 2013 and beyond, with dates being added all the time. For this new project, Slade has taken on board supreme bassist Chris Glen, formerly a member of THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND and MSG and more recently his fellow bandmember in the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP. Also joining Slade, from Holland, is Leon Geowie, the dynamic vocalist of Dutch band VENGEANCE and Slade's other band STEEL CIRCLE. The linup is rounded out by phenomenal vocalist Steve Glasscock, guitarist James Cornford and keyboard player Michael Clark.

This is a totally new concept for Slade, and as the band name suggests, will include performances from a varied set list from Tom Jones, MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND, URIAH HEEP, THE FIRM, ASIA, with a fair degree of AC/DC numbers and many surprises to be unwrapped along the way.

THE CHRIS SLADE TIMELINE begins the first leg of the U.K. tour in Cornwall at the end of March. Some dates confirmed at time of going to press are:

Mar. 27 - Carnglaze Caverns St. Neots Cornwall
Mar. 28 - The Walkabout Newquay Cornwall
Mar. 30 - Coop Sports Club, Sheerness, Kent
Mar. 31 - Club Luxor, Folkestone, Kent
Apr. 01 - The Half Moon, Putney, London
Apr. 02 - The Garage, Swansea, Wales
Apr. 04 - Oran Moir, Glasgow, Scotland

Slade received his highest exposure in 1989 when he was asked to join AC/DC as the replacement for Simon Wright. Slade played on the 1990 "Razor's Edge" album and accompanying world tour and the "Big Gun" single, released in 1993. The Young brothers, however, asked Slade to leave after four years with the group and reinstated former drummer Phil Rudd, saying that Rudd had demonstrated a "groove" more fitting their style of rock.

Great drummer. The razor's edge by AC/DC & those The Firm records are classics.

And what I mean by that is when he replaced Phil Rudd on drums Cris gave them a boost up their asses. Cris's showmanship and playing is second to none. Phil got lucky to get his gig back. I think jealousy play a part. Phil is a boring player. Congrats Cris.

Slade replaced Simon not Phil. Phil was already gone.

My biggest memory of the guy were all the metal guys at school relentlessly making fun of the goofy-looking, bald-headed new drummer for AC/DC.

AC/DC were my favorite band growing up, bar none. I remember when this guy came on the scene, they were losing me with the music they were putting out at that time.I always liked the stuff Rudd played on better. Just a better fit, I think.

They play ONE BEAT for crying out loud... where's the big difference between Slade's and Rudd's playing again?

Break Open: this is a perfect example of people like you not knowing shit about music. Take two drummers and tell them to play the same beat note for note, and that is how you tell a difference between musicians. Not by telling them to play a 20 minute freeform drum solo with polyrhythms and technique showcase. I'm pretty sure Mike Portnoy couldn't do one AC/DC show.

Mike Portnoy would play it right and he would do great. He knows what they're about.

Perfect example of you ASSuming things about people; I've played drums for over 20 years and know full well the value of serving a song. Nowhere did I even imply "a 20 minute freeform drum solo with polyrhythms and technique showcase" was the yardstick of a solid player. My point (which I'll paraphrase since you didn't get it the first time) is, since there are only so many stamps one can put on a 4/4 beat, and AC/DC songs aren't exactly known for their drum prowess, I have to question what exactly made Rudd's playing that much "groovier" over Slade's.

And you're underestimating Portnoy. Even he's enough of a professional to know restraint where appropriate.

To both you guys....... It would be hard for ANY drummer to play an AC/DC set and not want to do a fill....LOL

Slade is a great drummer, but he played too damned fast and too damned mechanical for AC/DC's style. The way he kept his hi-hat clamped shut just killed the groove.

Phil Rudd is THE drummer for AC/DC. He has the perfect push/pull groove, where he plays just behind the beat in the verses, and then drives the tempo in the choruses.

It's so incredibly subtle, but it makes all the difference in the world.

I guess if you're not an AC/DC fiend, you just won't understand why Phil Rudd is revered for his back beat.

Phil Rudd is the only drummer for AC/DC. Chris Slade may be a better drummer technically, but he wasn't the right drummer for AC/DC for the same reason Eddie Van Halen would not be the right guitarist for the Ramones. I'm just glad Simon Wright is gone. He's kind of a journeyman hack.

Angus Young himself said Chris Slade was too good a musician for the band, but that Phil Rudd's style was better suited for AC/DC..

Slade also played on the classic "Blinded By The Light".

I saw him with The Firm and even being a lifelong Jimmy Page fan, I watched Slade pretty much the entire show.

He's an amazing drummer

Chris Slade is a great drummer and at least the new band will show he has a unique drumming style from different angles, not just harping on and on about who's the better drummer for ACDC - bored with that conversation. I've been following his career since his 'Squires' days and am looking forward to seeing this current band at least once on the tour.
