Video: TOMMY ALDRIDGE Demonstrates YAMAHA's Live Custom Drum Set At NAMM - Feb. 2, 2013
Video footage of drum legend Tommy Aldridge (OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY) demonstrating the new Yamaha Live Custom drum set on January 25 at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California can be seen below.

The Live Custom series replaces Yamaha's Oak Custom series, and it's the first acoustic drum set to be made at the company's factory in China. The Live Custom shells are made 1.2mm oak plies and are 10 percent thicker than those used on the Oak Custom drums.

Aldridge officially rejoined WHITESNAKE last month following the departure of Brian Tichy.

Commented WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale: "When I asked all the bandmembers to put together their wish-list of potential drummers for us, everyone, without exception, had Tommy Aldridge at the top of the list. Also, most of the fans who communicated their suggestions on Whitesnake.com wanted Tommy back in the band. So, without further ado, we are delighted to welcome him back with us. It seems it is our destiny to work together... this is going to be so much fun. Welcome back, Tommy Aldridge!!!"

Added Aldridge: "I can't express how honored and grateful I am to be back in the SNAKE fold. Working with David Coverdale & Co. has always been a labor of love. SO stoked to be back and finish what we started!!"

100 percent of all the young drummers today owe this "Grandma" you speak of a huge debt of gratitude. Now... go over in that corner in your basement and fuxk your self ya little pecker snot. Grow up.

Being a drummer myself....I can honestly say that without listening to this guy for the past 30 years....I might not have even picked up the sticks. He is THAT inspirational to me and my playing. When he left Whitesnake....I lost interest in the band. Glad he's back.

Surely he can do better than an endorsement deal hawking chinese made composite wood drum shells.

Why would Yamaha even send out such a press release? "yeah, we're going with a plywood version made it china, but it's still got oak in it and it's a little thicker!"

I was wondering, do bands that aren't rich or have all inclusive endorsement deals use a cheap set to play live and an expensive one to record? I would imagine the live sound wouldn't suffer nearly as much as a studio recording if you forgo the AAA wood construction and expensive maple(?) veneers and you wouldn't want to risk breaking your good set on the road.

Thumbs up if this is what happens.

You could give the Octopus milk crates and garbage cans and he'd still sound better than 95.7% of the drummers out there.

Good for him for cashing some checks.

Having seen this guy in '82 during the Diary tour, he was just an afterthough with Randy and Ozzy at the helm. We all knew he was awesome, but never really saw the fame he deserved. But holy shit if that demo wasn't the real deal! Loved that he didn't embellish it with a thousand rolls. He hit the skins with some pretty admirable force as well. Killer demo!!
