PHILIP ANSELMO Discusses Horror Movies In First Part Of New Video Interview - Jan. 28, 2013
On January 12, "Robb's MetalWorks" conducted an interview with Philip Anselmo (DOWN , PANTERA) at Backstage Live in San Antonio, Texas. The first part of the chat, in which Anselmo discusses the upcoming Housecore Horror Film Festival (to be launched in October in Austin in partnership with BloodyDisgusting.com writer Corey Mitchell), can be seen below.

Mitchell, who is currently working with Anselmo on the former PANTERA frontman's autobiography, explained to the Austin Chronicle that the plan is not for this to be a rival to Fantastic Fest; instead, it will be a small, intimate and very underground event at the ND Austin on East Fifth.

In a 2010 interview with ARTISTdirect.com, Anselmo talked about when he first became a horror aficionado. "[When I was growing up] we had a black and white TV, and there was the 'Saturday Matinee', which was a horror fest," he said. "As a matter of fact, I was home alone and I saw Mario Bava's 'Black Sabbath', but that's a later memory. There was the afternoon show, and then the Saturday night show had a horror host, 'The Guru.' Honestly, the most impactful one was the 'Sunday Morning Movie' — films like 'Fiend Without A Face' and 'How Awful About Allan'. Believe it or not, those were on TV! Shit like that flipped me out. I would sneak up and beg my mother every night, 'Can I stay up and watch 'Night Gallery'?' [Laughs] I was sneaking out of bed, too, though."

Anselmo's Top 11 favorite horror films:

01. The Spiral Staircase
02. Evil Dead
03. The Old Dark House
04. The Tombs Of The Blind Dead
05. House By The Cemetary
06. Zombi
07. Don't Go In The House
08. House With The Laughing Windows
09. Don't Look Now
10. Horror Hotel
11. The Bird With The Crystal Plumage

... never cared for this guy (so yeah, thumb me down or whatever), but isn't zombi the italian version of dawn of the dead? or did he mean zombi 2? which was marketed as fulci's italian sequel to romero's dawn of the dead ...

Zombi and Zombi 2 are the same movie. Zombi was only called Zombi 2 in Italy for marketing purposes, so that it would get attention. Aside from that, it has no similarties to Dawn of the Dead other than the fact that it has zombies.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Fulci film, which in the US is known as Zombie.

hmm... no Killer Klowns From Outer Space or Ghoulies 3?? J/k...

I know Phil would probably never have any interest in directing or making a horror film, but i think it would be interesting.

It's probably a typo and he means the Fulci film.

Zombi is the Italian, Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead. There's more Goblin soundtrack involved and less character stuff. Zombi 2 is the Fulci film that is better known in North America as Zombie.

Nope, Anchor Bay Entertainment who have the rights of the movie in the U.S. released "Zombie 2" as just "Zombie".

I also loved Fulici's The Beyond. I'm kind of surprised he put House by the Cemetery over it.
