IRON MAIDEN: New Video Interview With NICKO MCBRAIN - Jan. 26, 2013
Vintage Rock's Junkman conducted an interview with drummer Nicko McBrain of British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN on January 25 at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that is taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

MAIDEN's 15th studio CD, 2010's "The Final Frontier", featured 10 tracks that had an average running time of seven minutes and 40 seconds, with the shortest song, "The Alchemist", clocking in at four minutes and 29 seconds, and the longest, "When The Wild Wind Blows", lasting ten minutes and 59 seconds.

"The Final Frontier" sold 63,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 4.

IRON MAIDEN's previous album, 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death", opened with 56,000 units to land at No. 9. This was a notable increase from the 40,000 first-week tally registered by its predecessor, 2003's "Dance of Death" (which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart), and that of "Brave New World", which moved 38,000 copies in June 2000 to land at No. 39 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"The Final Frontier" was IRON MAIDEN's fourth U.K. No. 1 album. The band previously topped the chart in 1982 with "The Number of the Beast", in 1988 with "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" and in 1992 with "Fear of the Dark".

"The Final Frontier" was released in North America on August 17, 2010 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). The effort was made available in a unique limited-edition collectors' "Mission Edition" CD case and features access to extra bonus content, including the director's cut of a video for the edited version of the opening song on the album, entitled "Satellite 15... The Final Frontier"; band "Mission Debrief" interview footage; wallpapers; photos; and the exclusive game "Mission II : Rescue & Revenge". MAIDEN also for the first time made the album available as an iTunes LP with bonus content as well as the traditional digital format. There was also a limited-edition double picture disc.

Interesting these guys don't get interviewed very much...i think more people on here would really prefer Maiden interviews than black veil brides interviews, just a fact

props to Nicko for his work on those early maiden albums, everything up to NPFTD (awful!)
I listened to MOLAD again yesterday, also stunning drumming!

To the drum tracks alone on YouTube. He has such finesse in his technique. It's also fun to play along to if you know the songs and you want to jam with the maestro himself. There's even the isolated bass and guitar tracks available, YouTube kicks ass.

have to disagree with walido. Everything kicks ass except NPFTD and Virtual X. I didn't care too much for AMOLAD, though. TFF is fucking brilliant top to bottom, imo.

I actually loved AMOLAD. TFF had a few very good songs, but didn't like the album as a whole.

Everyone says, "This album was great, but such and such didn't do it for me." But every Maiden album is high on someone's list of favorite albums. Some take a while to "get", I suppose. It just goes to show, though, that Maiden have made an insane amount of great albums that people of various rock sensibilities can enjoy.
My theory is that your least favorite Maiden albums are the ones you've heard the least. Myself included.

I really don't get why people don't like NPFTD. The songs kick butt! It's like a mix of their raw NWOBHM sound and the more polished Seventh Son sound. What's not to like?

I hope they will release a new album soon, and that it might be a little more back to basics. I liked Final Frontier a lot, but I miss the more typical maiden style. I feel with Frontier, they went down a road that just wasn't quite them. Kind of like what they did with Blaze, only much better of course.

I feel Harris' weakness is that sometimes he need to prove to people that he can do different things, and write things towards a completely different dirction. But Maiden and Harris is, without question, best when they stick with the style they are comfortable with. It might be narrow, but it's a good style.
