GEOFF TATE's QUEENSRŸCHE Signs With CLEOPATRA, Announces More Lineup Changes - Jan. 24, 2013
The Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE has signed a worldwide record deal with the Los Angeles-based independent label Cleopatra Records.

Although a lineup for Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE was originally announced in the fall of 2012, things have changed. The band will now feature Tate along with bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, DIO, WHITESNAKE, QUIET RIOT), guitarist Kelly Gray (QUEENSRŸCHE 1998-2001), keyboardist Randy Gane and new additions, guitarist Robert Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, HURRICANE) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET).

Wright takes over for previously announced drummer Bobby Blotzer, who will be returning to RATT as an integral part of the band that made him famous.

"I'm very much looking forward to being involved in the QUEENSRŸCHE project with Geoff," states Wright. "I've always admired his singing and songwriting and working with Rudy Sarzo again is going to be cool! Between this and my other project, DIO DISCIPLES, I look forward to a very busy year!"

QUEENSRŸCHE, with all members cited above, will soon be entering the studio for the first Cleopatra effort due out later this year. Legendary guitar slinger K.K. Downing of JUDAS PRIEST fame will be making a special guest appearance on the forthcoming CD, as will KING'S X guitarist Ty Tabor and Blotzer.

Tabor comments, "I'm very happy that Geoff considered me for this record. It will be great to play with all of these great musicians."

Beginning in early April, Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE will be hitting the road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band's epic 1988 release, "Operation: Mindcrime", performing all fifteen songs from the album along with other well-known hits and rarities from the catalog they've compiled over the past 30 years.

"I try to surround myself with the best players available and feel our longtime fans deserve nothing less," says Tate. "I expect the forthcoming effort to be one of our best yet."

Tate, who was fired from QUEENSRŸCHE in June 2012 after fronting the group for three decades, last year sought to prevent his former bandmates from touring and operating under the QUEENSRŸCHE name without him. While ruling against Tate, the presiding judge determined that there was no legal hurdle in Tate also using the name with an all-new lineup of musicians. "I don't see any reason that Mr. Tate can't have the benefit, if he gets other members, of whatever name he uses of using the brand," Superior Court Judge Carol A. Schapira said during the July 13, 2012 court hearing. "I think [doing that would be] inherently confusing, although I'm sure the market can get these things sorted out," she added.

Last November, Tate released his first solo CD in over a decade titled "Kings & Thieves" (InsideOut Music) and toured with his solo band in support of the CD, which included dates with the legendary ALICE COOPER.

Sarzo is a legendary bassist, but.. what?

Two members of Quiet Riot in Queensryche?

What?

First of all, why are you posting in CarlWillat's spot?

And KK won't be "playing in this project". I'm sure he's unaware of the soap opera. Someone in the fakeryche camp asked him if he'd do a solo on the upcoming album and he said yes. They'll send him a track and he'll play one solo in his home studio and send it back. He's got nothing to do with this bullshit!

"Legendary guitar slinger K.K. Downing of JUDAS PRIEST fame will be making a special guest appearance on the forthcoming CD, as will KING'S X guitarist Ty Tabor and Blotzer." He's not in the band but he is making a guest appearance on the album. As for why he's doing it? Maybe he doesn't share the blind hatred of Tate and his band that the sheeple here do.

is EASILY one of the worst labels on the planet... no joke.

Not only have I had direct dealings with them, I know several artists that have been signed to them at one point or another who have had nothing but negative things to say about them.

Tate has hit rock bottom...

Yeah, I'm sure they're all running around going "Oh my god, Geoff signed to CLEOPATRA! How are we gonna top THAT?"

I'm sure the REAL Queensryche is going to have no problem scoring a decent record deal. And they'll get a better deal because the album was already completed. But let's face it, they could put it out independently on iTunes and still do better than fucking Cleopatra Records!

Btw, anyone notice that Scatter never says anything good about Tate? He just goes around saying the opposite of everyone else about the REAL Queensryche to stir shit. Impotent child!

I'm sorry, I assumed you could read. How foolish of me! The REAL Queensryche will get a record deal as soon as the album is completed. They will get a better deal that way because the label knows EXACTLY what they are standing behind and they also don't have to invest in recording costs. The band also retains complete control of the finished product this way. It's a pretty simple concept. Which is probably why you can't grasp it!

This is bad news. InsideOut would have pretty much seen to it that a good prog record was released, IMO. This smells like Geoff didn't want any stipulations over the content of the record being made. A lot of those european metal labels would have made it obvious to Geoff what their expectations are and he would have dealt with it, or they would have walked away, which would have been good for everybody.

Wow! Let's see Geoff try to do another DTC with this lineup & guest musicians. K K. Downing ain't gonna be playing no grunge shit I wouldn't think. I was listening to the radio & there's this station on 103.9 Denver that plays deep cuts by older bands & they played this old David Bowie song that I'd never heard & it hit me, that's who Geoff wants to be now instead of Bruce Dickinson, David F*ckin' Bowie! I should've realized it since hearing Spool off HITNF, but that song is so boring, I only made it through the whole thing once.

You wont get a response on that Scatter. Well maybe .......Evil-twin will come back with some lame comment. Ya know I asked him months ago how many times he's seen Geoff & the rest over the years and he said a couple , I think...... Yet he comes on these threads every hour of his boring life to inneract and makes comments he know's nothing about lol .....

The trolls on these threads just cant handle all the people that want to work with Geoff . And they actually think their comments on here somehow effect Geoff and company .........This article's really gonna hurt though. They may have to go over to anybodygotalife.net to get back up if the moderators arent seeing the Hobbit for the 12th time...

I truly don't care for this band at all, but I must say that I am disappointed with the rhythm section. Not with the choice of GT adding them but that they actually joined this band. Sarto & Wright are great players and I understand they need to work but I lost respect for them, GT has no honor and you would think other musicians would take that into consideration. I won't pay to see or hear this bands material. Long live the real Queensryche!!!

Generally they release albums by glam rock has beens and never were's that sell maybe a couple of hundred copies.

I don't understand how a judge can say it's ok for 1/4th or 1/5th of a band, ie: Geoff solo, having been fired, to drag a name even deeper through the mud. Ridiculous to the extreme. I suppose the few hundred that still care about him will buy this bargain basement crap, the rest will support the actual band.

Simon Wright seems like a nice guy in interviews and a very good drummer but I am not sure he’s the right fit. He’s a rock/hard rock drummer but I’m not sure he has that many “progressive” or complex elements to his playing. He seems stylistically as far from Rockenfield as Blotzer was...
I’m sure he doesn’t see it that way, but it seems the poor bugger always seems to turn up after the best bits of the party have long gone! Part of AC/DC when it produced pedestrian albums in the 1980s between Black In Back and The Razor’s Edge, part of UFO in the late 1990s when the train wreck of the second Schenker period came to an end, and part of Dio after the classic period, he’s been a member of some legendary bands but never been on the classic albums!

Good to see a very tight rhythm section, now the singer needs to go....

Wright and Sarzo are session guys, simple as that. They haven't contributed to classic albums, they just fill in for a paycheck when classic album/band contributers leave. I have no problem with session guys, but people need to stop pretending these guys are anything but that.

Mind you, I really like Slip of the Tongue and Lock Up the Wolves, just stop acting like these guys should have musical morals. They were always hired guns.

Rudy's big claim to fame was a number one album with Quiet Riot that sucked in 84, and sucks now. Even Krokus was better than that cheese.

People here get too emotional about this soap opera. Anyone who's been in a band for more than a year, knows there's always some friction. Over 30 years things can go to hell. I miss Tate of the 80s. His voice was phenomenal. He's lost that since the 90s. But the rest of the band is delusional when they think they will recreate the magic of the 80s with LaTorre. Tate was no random dude.

They probably won't recreate the glory days. Most bands don't, regardless of lineup, reunions, time apart, etc.

However, from the samples, attitude and live sets, they are going to try their best to give the fans something worth all this bullshit, and I include the QR guys in letting their band be led to utter shit in the last 15 years, it's not all Tates fault.

Most fans are glad they're trying to rectify it and excite themselves and the fans again, Tate will continue down his lounge lizard road to nowhere with his bland band and lyrics over blander songs written by his buddies.

I want the band to take their time with the record and write some of their best material in years, not patch something together just to say "Hey! We released an album first!."

Also, Tate boy proved his irrelevance. His solo album sold 1,800 units in it's first week. Eighteen hundred. VERY pathetic from someone that used to front one of the biggest hard rock/metal bands in the world. You know who out-sold him? Jason Newsted, who sould three times as many units as him.

Seriously, dude, you're as delusional as the man you follow like a god.

I don't think rushing K&T did anything to its "quality". The dynamic duo Geoff Kelly Gray pretty much guarantees that no matter how much time they use making the thing, it will be crap.

RATT is getting back together!

Just watched their M3 performance, and while Pearcy's voice is shot, the band itself sounds great. Nice having Juan back, and Carlos Cavazo does a great job with Crosby's parts.

If that lineup is going back on the road, they should be able to put together a package and play decent size places.... maybe the two Queensryche's can open for them.

I think that's pretty telling, folks. I love the IO label, but there has definitely been some flash-in-the-pan stuff on there that's pure drivel. So for "Queensryche" *not* to be on there says something, and I honestly doubt they're not on there b/c Geoff rejected *their* offer...

Methinks that IO realizes that while there is some value in GT solo doing a throwaway album that doesn't cost them much of anything, trying to promote "Queensryche" is a much bigger gamble and they'd rather not deal with the headache and sure-to-follow fallout.

Its hard to see this lineup as legit. Its full of musicians who can play yes, but are not known for their song writing ability. What that means to me is that Geoff's Queensryche will be more of Tate/Slater/Gray songs like the past few albums that have failed miserably. Rather than fight for his former band's name, he needs to take a long look at his career over the past 10 years and see what hasn't been working and change it. Get over your midlife crisis (Kings and Thieves) and write something good. Dump your yes man production crew of Gray and Slater, get in good with a real group of musicians, not professional touring ones (the Sarzos and Wright are great players yes, but not known for their writing ability) and prove to your now mostly former fans that you are a force to be reckoned with.

As for KK & Ty being on the new album? They are being paid for solos, good for them. Tate obviously still has some money and is spending it to try to give his album some cred. However, on Operation Mindcrime II, he had Dio on it and it still sold poorly. Its a weak move to generate interest in a project that most fans are highly skeptical of. Neither will be on tour. Likely, this new album will be a continuation of American Soldier or the dreaded Dedicated to Chaos. Tate already ruled Queensryche for many years when they were putting out subpar "experimental" albums. What makes you think he will change now?

DoucheBaggerX is back on here to claim that Tate is still a world class vocalist (he's not) and that he has world class guitarists (he doesn't) and that Cleopatra is a top notch record label (not even close).

That only thing that he does know is that, while the boss can't carry a tune anymore ... as he's said on stage recently, he's African American from the waist down so DBx is happy.

Geoff Taint's family and employees bought a dozen copies each. See the Scott Ian article, where reference is made to Scott buying copies of his own albums. So the actual sales figures on Kings and Thieves are much lower than 1800, if you take out the ones purchased by Team Taint.

Based solely on the legitimacy of his stellar new Queensryche lineup and the anticipation of their music, Geoff Tate has already done what his ex-band mates could not do after six months of touring and promotion - secure a record deal for their band.

Queensryche has had many unfortunate issues in the past with their labels not giving the band its proper, deserved treatment. This looks to be changing. While Cleopatra is a small independent label, Queensryche is now the biggest act on it. Whatever resources they have will be surely put into ensuring this album's success. It was a wise move to sign with this type of label.

Looking ahead, the inevitable outcome of last year's split is becoming clearer. News of Geoff Tate's impending Operation:Mindcrime 25th anniversary tour in the United States had already sent his ex-Queensryche band mates and their new band looking overseas in hopes of finding somewhere they can still be paid to play. In this situation, however, there is nowhere to run. The reality is that no reputable record label would ever sign any new, unproven band of lifelong backing musicians with an unknown vocalist to a worldwide record deal - much less a band with the same name as an already signed band. This is the reality of the situation.

Tate has done so much to destroy his reputation no self respecting lover of metal would pay any amount of money to see this circle jerk. I hope Tate is paying you good money for the crap you write. Mister Mish was an employee of InsideOut Music, that's why we won't hear from that Pitkin again, he's no longer getting paid to be Tate's friend.

FireReaverX is an employee of Tate's, i'm afraid we're stuck with him 'til the court hearing.

Cleopatra Records? That's Brian Perera's label that he's been running purely for tax loss purposes since he founded it.

Frilly Pink must have passed on this album.

Ty Tabor is still a great guitarist even if he does email a solo for Queenspite.

Just like all the member's of this band in 2014, my 'Reply' button on here won't work, can anyone tell me why?

BUT, what I don't love is how he's had to basically whore himself out to various bands like this. He's a phenomenally talented drummer who deserves to be in bands that do WAY better than Tate's. Also, I don't really know if Simon's playing will fit with this group. Granted, he and Rudy played together in Dio, so the rhythm section will be tight, but how will their combined sound fit with Queensryche's music?

Idk... i'm a bit skeptical.

A couple of things:

1. The best song on their new album will be the one that features Ty Tabor on guitar. Highly underrated and unknown to most (although his band has been around for 20+ years with the same members).

2. Pearcy must have realized it's time to get the RATT machine back on the road, and Blotzer's no dummy to not miss out on that. If no Juan C, they get a thumbs down.

3. Simon Wright played drums on Who Made Who-my all time favorite AC/DC song.

4. Mindcrime would be a kick ass name for this band, regardless of who's in it or what it sounds like.

5. I still remember the time I met Tate after a show in 03 and he was an ass to me-and I had after show passes from their fan club.

Well, bad move from this record label...releasing an album under the QR monicker before court's decision (november, 2013, if i'm correct), then having to withdraw it and destroy all copies and lose gazillions...GT probably convinced them he'll surely win.

The real QR is likely waiting before signing a contract they couldn't fulfil if they lose in court, and this clearly shows which "version" of QR is the most professional nowadays.

I highly doubt the court decision will be retroactive. And even if it was, who's going to spend a lot of time trying to track down all 500 copies of Geoff's Sarzoryche album? The only way they're going to lose money is by paying Geoff to go into a recording studio when he's going to record the whole thing in his basement with his trailor park buddies like always!

I love how you're trying to spin the real Queensryche booking overseas dates as a desperate move. Tell me more about how playing to fans outside the US after a successful US tour is a bad thing.

While you're at it, tell me more about how the real QR has somehow squandered the name when they're drawing loud, enthusiastic crowds that GT can only dream of these days, like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea5ueD8yPvE

In comparison, these are Tate's crowds:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHt82KJ51D4

Also, Cleopatra Records? Bahahaha! The last thing I ever bought from those guys was a box set of goth and industrial bands back in the 90's. Other than that, the only thing Cleopatra were ever good for was for some Kraftwerk compilation albums with music that had previously been a bitch to find.

These days, Cleopatra is the label where washed up hair bands go to die. I guess it's fitting that it's where Uncle Vester is taking his clown show.

But hey, good luck in trying to sell Uncle Vester and his band of scabs as the real Queensryche. Just remember to get paid in cash or cashier's checks, since Tate's business checks will start to bounce soon and banks don't take cases of wine as deposits.

This was the best news post of the week:

1. Tater signs to the worst record company in existence, with no name left over bands destined to the garbage bins....he might as well not even have a "deal". Obviously everyone passed on him. I know for a fact that most radio stations throw the Cleopatra records straight into the garbage (I had friends who told me)

2. Blotz finally gets a clue and goes back to what he does best. Thank God he didn't tarnish his name and reputation. But I'll bet it will still say on Wikipedia that he was in Queensryche, although he just posed for one picture and interview. I doubt if they even jammed once.

3. A shame that Ty and KK will send in solos and be associated with this, but Geoff probably tricked them into thinking it's all reputable etc. I know Ty, and made friends with him....he doesn't read metal news, so he has no idea what really went on with Geoff and the soap opera from hell. I was shopping with Ty, and we came across a Metal Edge magazine at the time with a huge King's X spread, and he had no clue. I had to show it to him to make him read it. He just went for the gear magazines. I wish I still had his number to warn him to stay away.

Queensryche have no tourdates on the East Coast -- a lie, I have my tickets for their upcoming East Coast concerts.

K.K. Downing is playing with Geoff Taint's Queensryche -- the retired K.K. doesn't waste time reading internet posts and has no idea that Geoff Taint assaulted his bandmates and was fired, and in fact he probably thinks the file he will send them from his home studio is a solo for a genuine Queensryche album.

Geoff Taint's Queensryche has a record label now so they win -- funny, Metallica got back their masters and are starting their own record label now. Who do you think does better in 2013, the band with a record label or the one without?

(a) no one in Europe wants to see that dick of a boss of yours; and (b) after getting bumped by Mike Portnoy's accoustic act, ticket sales are so poor that he can't even sell enough tickets to pay for the gas on a fucking boat ride for up to 300 people.

I find it even funnier that Scott, Michael, Parker and Ed have nothing better to do but come on Blabbermouth and pretend they are fans just to bash Tate hahaha u guys are pathetic!! Go take your band with ur gay tribute singer along with ur 20 Crimson fans elsewhere.. With all the smack talked about Tate, can't wait to see when his album blows Cheeseryches album away.. I don't even know how you guys can be so high on a false setto singer! I rather listen to Tate sing Country! All the vest talking is because I think you guys get hard looking at Tate's.. Stop jerking off to pictures of Tate on the Internet and find a forum that cares about ur tribute band... It's a joke. The YouTube clip of what's to come for Tribute Ryche sounds like ass with a good production.. Whoopdy dooooo!

The REAL QR oughta get back on board with Roadrunner - 'nuff said!!

With Jimbo Barton behind them, RR oughta reconsider (the band too)....
