ANVIL Tribute Album Due In April - Jan. 23, 2013
Skol Records has set an April 19 release date for "Strong As Steel - A Tribute To Anvil", the first-ever ANVIL tribute compilation. The effort will be limited to only 666 CD units, and will include ANVIL cover versions performed by such bands as MAVERICK (Japan), SINISTER REALM (USA), STORMZONE (Ireland), SATANICA (Japan), IRON KOBRA (Germany), DEXTER WARD (Greece), CONVIXION (Greece), SAVAGE BLADE (Canada), SKELATOR (USA), CAYM (Canadian band featuring ANVIL drummer Robb Reiner's son Tyler on drums), CRYSTAL VIPER (Poland) and others. The album is being produced by Bart Gabriel (pictured below with ANVIL frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow), who — in addition to helming albums by such bands as JACK STARR'S BURNING STARR, CRYSTAL VIPER, LONEWOLF and SACRED STEEL — has produced the "A Tribute To Cirith Ungol", "A Tribute To Metalucifer" And "A Tribute To Sabbat" compilations, as well as several other cover songs which later landed on tribute albums to such acts as W.A.S.P., ANGEL WITCH, MANILLA ROAD, WARLOCK and RUNNING WILD.

Commented Gabriel: "This will be a real tribute, a really high-quality release, because ANVIL deserve to have one. I realize it won't be a bestseller, but all those who have seen 'Anvil! The Story Of Anvil' movie will understand what's the driving force behind this project."

He added, "I'm one of those guys who got inspired by ANVIL to continue, to follow my dreams, to never give up. And I know there are many, many bands around who feel like the movie is about them as well. It's all about positive energy, and I'm truly honored that the project was approved and blessed by ANVIL members, [which is what] makes it even more special!"

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" was named one of 2009's best documentaries by a slew of film critics associations across the continent, including critics in Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, and Las Vegas, as well as the International Documentary Association, the Online Film Critics Society, and the National Society of Film Critics. It also made the year-end Top 10 lists in publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, and Village Voice.

It would be nice if a lot of the bigger bands who claim an influence, inspiration, whatever-you-want-to-call-it, would get involved with this.

Agreed. I have always liked Anvil and would probably buy this if I knew at least one or two of these bands...but I don't know any so I'm gonna pass

Those bands are so full of shit. I'm watching these HUGE musicians with infinite clout in the music industry talk about how much they loved Anvil, and all I'm thinking is, "Take them out on tour, get them signed, do SOMETHING to help this band."

I, too, have been inspired by Anvil. They have inspired me to never give up, chase your dreams, always be second rate, and screw over your bass player at the first possible opportunity!

You haters go listen to metal on metal, strength of steel or forged in fire. The Anvil sound has been copied more than any metal band from the early 80's.

No Anvil, Exciter = No Big 4

Long Live Canadian Heavy Metal \m/

Those two were great albums. It's the never moving forward that gets them no respect.

All of the bands involved seem strangely connectted to one another... read on and find out that Bart Gabriel is the one doing it? Explains EVERYTHING!

Leave Anvil out of this entirely. Don't embarrass them.

Bart, this sounds like a fanboy's dream. What's next - a Manowar tribute with Marta singing? What is the demographic of those who would buy this - 50+?

I caught the Anvil documentary on VH1 a couple of weeks ago.

I have a new found respect for Sheppard's Pie.

I don't know any of those bands, but judging from their names they are a bunch of third tier metal bands. I mean come on, Iron Kobra. Sinister Realm. That is some weak shit. I used to love the song Metal On Metal. I think I still have the LP.

A tribute to what? The only tribute to be linked to this band is to the guy who did that documentary about them so they can enjoy their 15 minutes of fame after decades of ridicule. This band has always been a joke but this tribute pushes it too far, really.

is a tribute album if you haven't ever heard of any of the bands playing on it? Either way they deserve it, metal legends!
