Former IRON MAIDEN Guitarist Endorses New Rock Academy - Jan. 19, 2013
According to Dunmow Broadcast, former IRON MAIDEN guitarist Dennis Stratton has thrown his support behind a new rock school in Saffron Walden, England.

Offering "music lessons with a big difference," Livewire is open on Monday evenings at The Friends Meeting House in the High Street, teaching electric guitar, drums, bass and keyboards.

"This is a great opportunity for people to learn and play music with professional musicians," said Stratton.

Every lesson finishes with a 15-minute jam session with all students joining in well known rock and pop songs.

For more information, visit livewirerockacademy.co.uk.

Stratton participated in the recording and production of IRON MAIDEN's self-titled first album in December 1979. He also appeared in the home video recording "Live At The Ruskin" in early 1980 (released in 2004 as part of "The Early Days" DVD set), MAIDEN's first video "Women in Uniform", the "Women In Uniform" single, some subsequent single releases, as well as in the band's first appearance on British TV ("Running Free" performed live on "Top Of The Pops") and the "Live!! +One" album.

Yeah, but there's another 20 guys from the early days of Iron Maiden who didn't make the final cut, either. Every band has this, it's just that Iron Maiden was honest and revealed the names of everyone who was ever in the band in the early days.

Of course they would have headed in a different direction if they kept Stratton and Di'Anno, but would we still be talking about them today, much less going to see them play live? I highly doubt it.

Is there such a thing? I thought they just piled on more and more guitarists as they went.

You've gotta suck pretty hard if they kept Janick Gers around and not you...

And they wanted Adrian instead of him anyway, but Adrian was still working with his previous band at that point. Stratton was only ever keeping stage left warm until Adrian was ready to take it.

Dennis looks like Paul during the Battlezone days. Good luck to him.

Btw, Jannick co-wrote some of the greatest Maiden tunes.

it ever end with these people that were in a band 30 some years ago but have done nothing since refering to themselves as former band members? if you had nothing to do with them when broke out then we do not care! not in Miden when number of the beast came out then you were never in Maiden as for as I am concerned.same thing with priest, not in before steel? who cares! you never sang on a AC/DC record? then stop calling yourself former AC/DC singer!

All I see is Blabbermouth calling him "former Iron Maiden guitarist", as if we don't know who he is. I don't see Dennis Stratton billing himself this way.

Dennis is a solid guy, and the irony is Iron Maiden ended up very keyboard and vocal laden and progressive. That first album is still one of he best debuts in the hard rock genre, and seemingly melds the two very divergent genres of punk and prog rock.

Not a fan of Janick's solos but he's writes some pretty epic stuff for Maiden.

Ghost of the navigator, dance of death, THE LEGACY, The Talisman to name a few.
And not to forget Adrian Smith took his riff for 2 minutes to midnight. Janick wrote the 'midnight chaser' for the band white spirit with the same riff.

Stratton's a legend just for his involvement on the first Maiden album.

Can't really compare the guy to Adrian, who's a once-in-a-lifetime guitar genius.

Stratton was just a solid metal player and helped make the debut a classic.

Considering Paul DiAnno has never seemed to be able to keep a solid band together through his post-Maiden years, Im surprised he didint get Dennis Stratton to be his permanent guitar player. That woudlve been the perfect combination. They couldve picked up where the first two maiden albums left off like the Battlezone band did

Stratton wasn't a solid metal guitarist. Steve kicked him out for not being metal.

that a news article about Dennis Stratton immediately turns into a debate about Janick Gers. My favorite one above is "Adrian Smith stole the riff for 2 Minutes to Midnight from Janick" -- that's the Janick fan's justification for Janick playing Adrian's intro to this song when Adrian first rejoined Maiden, I guess.

I find he really shone on that Live At Ruskin Arms footage. He was a good showman too. Adrian Smith, however... he's a certainly a tasty player but wouldn't call him a genius either.

All the best Maiden tunes were written before Janick was in the band. All the worst were written when he was in the band. Everything Stratton played on was CLASSIC. Splice it up any way you want, but those are the facts.

Dennis Stratton is a hero in my book and did a damned fine job on the first Maiden. He's got class, something lots of people in his sort of position lack.

If you can't bring yourself to acknowledge and respect Dennis Stratton's indisputable place in Maiden's history and his great playing on that groundbreaking, eternally classic debut album, then your metal ethic is weak and you have no business owning any Maiden albums.

As for you Janick haters: Mr. Gers co-wrote "Be Quick Or Be Dead," the most vicious Maiden song of the '90s, which stands up to any song from the band's golden era of the '80s. 'Nuff said.

Here's a question, if anyone's still reading this. Who plays the very first notes on Prowler, Stratton or Murray? I'm guessing it was Stratton, with Murray coming on second on that song. So the very first musician heard on the very first song on the very first full length Iron Maiden album would have then been Dennis Stratton, if I am correct.
