STATION FIRE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION Asks JACK RUSSELL To Rename Benefit Show - Jan. 17, 2013
The Station Fire Memorial Foundation — which was formed in order to procure, construct, and maintain a fitting memorial to those affected by the deadly blaze on February 20, 2003 at The Station in West Warwick, Rhode Island — announced today that it does not wish to be associated with a recent benefit concert being promoted by Jack Russell (pictured below) of GREAT WHITE, the band whose pyrotechnics ignited the fire.

The organization has released the following statement regarding the event:

"On January 16, 2013 it came to our attention that a press release announcing a benefit show in Hermosa, California was being promoted by Jack Russell stating that proceeds would be given to the Station Fire Memorial Foundation. This event was not approved by, nor endorsed by the Station Fire Memorial Foundation. We require all third party fundraisers to be recognized and approved by our organization prior to advertising.

"Upon hearing about this event, contact was made with Mr. Russell's management company. The Station Fire Memorial Foundation felt that this event was not something we wished to be associated with. This is due to the resentment and animosity still felt by many of the families and survivors that our very organization represents. We feel that the upset caused by his involvement would outweigh the amount of funds raised at this event. It is our intent as an elected board to put the needs and best interests of those we represent before any monetary gain.

"Mr. Russell's manager, Ms. Valerie Ince, responded that she would remove the name of the Station Fire Memorial Foundation from the event and another worthy charity would be chosen. We thanked her, and tried to have all traces of the event taken down from various music news websites before any damage could be done. Instead of graciously adhering to our heartfelt and polite request, Ms. Inc then released an additional statement to the media.

"We stand behind our decision that our organization represents the feelings and the needs of the family members and survivors above the need for the publicity or opportunity of one person."

GREAT WHITE guitarist Ty Longley was one of the people who perished in The Station blaze, which became the fourth deadliest fire in U.S. history.

In 2008, the band agreed to pay $1 million to survivors and families of the victims of the fire. They then launched a multi-year benefit tour for the Station Family Fund.

The Station Fire Memorial Foundation is a 100% volunteer effort. There are no administrative costs. Every dollar raised by the Station Fire Memorial Foundation will go directly to address the costs of construction and maintenance of the memorial. Construction is estimated to begin spring of 2013.

ok..

i'll say it..
---------------------
i think it's possible that the rhode island fire was a false flag attack
-----
to most normal people -0-"great white" is just a rockin hair band
--
but to the "social engineer"/media commie types...

they get real freaky about "race shit"----and that name "great white"--->is a real thorn in their weirdass "media paradigm" that they are trying to create
---
they cant have "great white"---they gotta bring whitey down

as part of the war on america=---being waged thru false flag attacks---that give a "reality show" type message to citizens
---

they would see it as a smear on "white biker types" or some shit
-0-0-
it does fit their m.o.

but we'll never know---either way it's awful
---
of course its probably not..
just a sad situation

How you can make light of 100 people burning to death is beyond comprehensible. There's a special karma waiting for you, you can bet on that.

Does his current manager think it's 1987 or something? Jack's barely even relevant in hair band circles anymore. She better watch it before their asses get sued for more than they can make.....

Regardless of how you feel about the decision. It's not like Jack is a novice in the workings of the music industry. I would think it's standard practice to get prior approval from ANY charity before you go slapping their name on your promotional materials. He shoulda oughta known better!

I'm no Jack "Got drugs?" Russell fan, but fuck these assholes. This band did not set out to kill people - it was an accident.

Whoever wrote that mess should have been the first one to die in the fire.

And as far as I'm concerned, Russell should've been convicted of 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter and forced to listen to his own shitty albums for life.

Well that's brilliant, but this story has absolutely nothing to do with "the Station Fund ppl". The Station Family Fund and the Station Fire Memorial Foundation are two different organizations. I realize they both have "station" in their name. But try to keep it straight if you're gonna be throwing around expletives left and right.

If they're going to be that way, then they might as well drop "The Station" from their name since the clubs structure and design was the reason why the death count was so outrageously high.

NO, you simply don't do pyro in a club or small bar... that's just plain common sense, so yes, they were partly responsible...

the fact that the club was not built to code only excerbated the problem... it doesn't absolve GW from their responsibility to exercise good judgement... not sure how that was viewed in the courts, but i'm just talking from a common, layman's point of view: you don't do pyro, even "small" pyro, in a small enclosed space: you're just asking for trouble...

Everything is common sense AFTER the fact, right? People do all sorts of things for years...until a tragedy occurs and then it's a 'no brainer' that they shouldn't have been doing it. You think that was the first time Great White or any band was using pyro in small venues?

pyro in a small club is a no brainer. some things you should know before the fact. the fact they did it before or and didn't start a fire was damn lucky.

I'm not piling on Jack Russell, it obviously was a terrible accident. But I do understand the families not wanting his contributions or allow him to feel he's off the hook now. I'm not saying that's right, but if you lost someone in the fire, I can understand that line of thought.

From what I understand the club's bldg. code was fine. What was not fine was the type of insulation they added later plus allowing pyro and most importantly not having any sprinklers. Disaster waiting to happen.

Not sure why all the hate towards Jack regarding the fire. He didn't cause it. Is it the singer's job to make sure their set and the venue has all the proper fire safety conditions?

You couldn't be more wrong. It is the club owners fault for not checking their own venue to see if all the safety precautions were marked down as safe & good to go!

Everybody seems to forget that Jack always insisted on the pyro and did not give a fuck about the conditions of the club. The club could've put their foot down but $ was more important, as it always seems to be.

And other bands used pyro in small clubs all the time. Knowing Gene, he probably was concerned with that and looked into it...especially since his fire breathing would sometimes roll across the ceiling, but I don't think a singer or band would be concerned with that. There are too many other people who should deal with that stuff. The band itself should be last in line in my opinion. And those owners KNEW that cheap shit they bought was extremely flammable, didnt that come out in the trial? They should have been responsible for telling every band who came there not to use pyro and why. Think about it......if they did that, do you think they would have even lit a match? ( hey guys, we bought this cheap ass soundproofing to save a few bucks but it extremely flammable ....don't use pyro. Jack: I don't care, we are great white and we are gonna do it anyway. Sure. ) The fact those assholes knew about that shit and didnt tell anyone is where the buck should have stopped. In my opinion.

Jack would of raised maybe $400 and caused more pain that these people do not deserve. It is too late to try to beg for mercy now. Is he to blame, NO but him getting plastic surgery donated to him that he could of donated to a burn patient will NEVER be forgotten. Val Ince should be ashamed of herself. These people don't need to be doing damage control on press releases that are only getting Jack poor me press. They have a more important agenda to attain to. LET THEM BE.
