DARKTHRONE: New Song Available For Streaming - Jan. 16, 2013
Norwegian black metal veterans DARKTHRONE will release their new album, "The Underground Resistance", on February 26 via Peaceville Records.

An edited version of a track from the CD, "Leave No Cross Unturned", is available for streaming using the SoundCloud player below.

"The Underground Resistance" is DARKTHRONE's latest venture through the metal cosmos, and first new album since the 2010 opus, "Circle The Wagons". It contains DARKTHRONE's trademark masterful riffing in a broad range of styles, effortlessly bounding through the annals of classic metal, taking in thrash, speed and black metal, and not forgetting a dose of punk. All in all, a ferocious and dynamic set of tracks drenched in Fenriz's and Nocturno's rich and diverse tastes in all things metal, primarily those rooted firmly in the spirit of the '80s. Six tracks long, and each one an epic in itself, this is undoubtedly DARKTHRONE's strongest outing of late.

"The Underground Resistance" was written and recorded spring 2010 to summer 2012 at Necrohell 2 studios by the bandmembers themselves. The CD was mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door in Texas. The cover artwork comes courtesy of the iconic and celebrated artist Jim Fitzpatrick.

Commented Fenriz: "Three songs each, Ted's are flown from the universe of metal with his strongest voice ever so far. Songs of mine are torn from the wombs of the riders of rohan of metal, safely cradled in 1985 style."

In a recent interview with Terrorizer magazine DARKTHRONE guitarist/vocalist Nocturno Culto stated about the band's new CD: "I can't speak for Fenriz, but I think he’s going for more epic lyrics. I can only speak for myself and this time around they are very personal lyrics. It's the first time I've ever tried this and it’s difficult to do it nicely and put it into good words. There was a lot of hate and people trying to ruin your day and I had stuff to say for my sake."

He added: "Our music now is basically just metal. It will be a step away from the last album as usual."

DARKTHRONE's last album, "Circle The Wagons", sold around 500 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2010. The CD landed at position No. 120 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Unbelievable crap, indeed.:) Early Helloween transgressing into bad 'black'n'roll' quotations and Motorhead homage fit for highschool. I suppose this passes for 'eccentric'.

it strikes me as excessively generic and dated... uninspired old-school hype metal for hipsters and potheads

...Anvil, Metallica, early thrash influences mixed with NWOBHM kinda bands like Satan, Avenger, Raven and Tysondog... what's amazing, is the unheard-of low quality... after all, this is an established band? Haven't heard Burzum's efforts, but was he mentally fit, he's probably good enough to hit the local pub? Not sure about Darkthrone...

It is the natural follower to Agent Steels Skeptic Apocalypse and Mad Locust Rising, all the inflections are there. The rising vocal at the end of each line...haa....haa well done Fenriz & Nocturno! Then at the 4 minute mark we get a huge nod to Celtic Frost, fukk yeh!
Oh "early Helloween" it is fukk all like. Early Helloween is Judas Ep & Walls Of Jerico - which this song sounds fukk all like so can only assume you haven't listened to either. Ride The Sky is assume, Kai Hansen vo-kills. Looking forward to the album when it drops, as it is already shitting on all you "scene-sters and your lack of metal knowledge and history!"

We know our metal history - just unsure where this particular band is. If anywhere.

Dude you obviously do not know your metal history - you quote early Helloween, where on earth is that in this track? Then you throw random comparisons to Raven (eh?!), Avenger and other NWOBHW, which this obviously isn't should you actually listen to the track (note - take cotton buds out of yer ears).

Oh and have you actually listened to Dark Throne over their past 4-5 releases as they always go for this "low fi" sound...as for Anvil, Satan, Tyson Dog...go use said cotten buds in yer lug'oles as your comparisons bare no reflection to the song currently streaming.

Well done for commenting but nil points for utterly inaccurate shite commented :-)

fucking killer I can't wait for this to come out, everyone bitching about their sound and singing style really should shut the hell up, Darkthrone is one of those bands that show their roots whenever they feel like it and they pull it off nicely, NO FASHIONS, NO TRENDS, NO BULLSHIT! Hail Dark Throne ! everyone else, best of luck with your flavor of the week poser shit.
