JACK RUSSELL To Play Acoustic Benefit Show For Station Fire Memorial Foundation - Jan. 16, 2013
February 20, 2013 marks the tenth anniversary of the tragic fire at The Station in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Jack Russell of the band GREAT WHITE, whose pyrotechnics ignited the deadly blaze, will take part in an acoustic performance on February 7, 2013 at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, California, with proceeds set to be donated to the Station Fire Memorial Foundation. Jack will be accompanied by his guitarist Robby Lochner, and will be performing several GREAT WHITE hits as well as some other surprises.

"My heart aches for all the families and friends of the victims whose lives will forever be changed by this terrible tragedy," says Jack. "I too lost many friends that night but I can't begin to equate that to the loss of a family member. For what it's worth, you have been in my prayers and always will be."

For more information on the performance, go to this location.

If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation, or for more information on the Station Fire Memorial Foundation, click here.

The Rhode Island incident became the fourth deadliest fire in U.S. history, killing 100 — including GREAT WHITE guitarist Ty Longley — and injuring hundreds more.

Fan-filmed video footage of Jack Russell's December 7, 2012 acoustic performance at the Steel Mill Bar and Grille in Martins Ferry, Ohio can be seen below.

I was in disbelief that event happened in 2003, and I still feel the same way today. How tragic. If I were him, I'd be donating a portion of EACH show to the foundation.

He should be donating a piece of every last cent he makes for the rest of his life along with the other Great White to the foundation.

Tons of bands used pyro at inside club gigs in the 90's. Great White just pulled the short straw on who and when it was going to happen. That doesn't make them free of responsibility, but they had a lot of company.

As someone who witnessed this happen, the band was not at fault. The blame lies with their former manager, Dan Biechle and the owners of the club, the Derderian brothers. They knew the club wasn't up to code (specifically, the soundproofing foam being flammable and the club not having a sprinkler system) and they still gave the OK to light it up.

Back to the current article at hand, why would a benefit for a fire in Rhode Island be in California? There's a place in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, 4 miles away from the site, called the Rock Junction that has their own memorial for the event every year. Jack should perform there out of good faith.

Back then it was likely more of Jack's band and he should have retire the

band, considering how many fans died there. You have to believe band

members do rehersals and arrive at places before shows and look up things for their own safety to start with. Not doing that is negligence on their part.

They could have continue the band under a different name, which is what some of them will end up doing anyway. I thought these guys were very insensitive back then and still are.

Sadly I remember driving through Rhode Island when the news of the fire came on radio. Great White was really popular in Rhode Island, they even did a version of save all your love with the local radio stations call letters in it. The Station was known for past their prime acts, including Anthrax just a few weeks earlier. The main metal DJ from the radio station lost his life in that fire along with many more just looking for a night out listening to one of their old faves. I've never wanted to see GREAT WHITE perform after that night and I know that it hurts many just to think Jack has continued touring under that name. Dee Snider has a done of lot of concerts for the Station Fire victims while this is the first time I've heard Jack or any members of the band try to do something like this. Too late Great White, Rhode Island doesn't want anything to do with you. Just go away and stop bringing up the bad memories of the fire with your performances.

I always stand by the exit door during shows just in case if something crazy went down during it like a fire etc.

It is the way to go these days.

RIP to everyone involved in the horrible night club tragedy.

I have been ripping him and his band for years over what happened. But this seems like a very genuine act. Lets remember one thing, this guy lost a band member. He had close friends in the crowd. At his show. And I feel like he is showing a very proper amount of respect to the survivors and their families.
Good luck to you Jack. I hope you can find peace.

Maybe Jack would gain peace if he didn't get plastic surgery donated to him instead of a fire victim right after the fire, or maybe he wouldn't feel so bad for throwing the manager down the river & have him take all the blame for something he wanted to happen in a building that clearly could not accept pyro. Or maybe he would get peace from not killing a dog or shooting a maid or taking drugs his entire life or cheating or being a liar & hoping you all feel sorry for him. Maybe then he will gain peace. One can hope.

Getting the facts straight needs help too. There were 465+ people there, 100 died, 65 children lost one or both parents and over 200 were gravely injured. THOSE are the accurate facts.
