MISFITS To Release 'Dea.d. Alive!' In February - Jan. 14, 2013
MISFITS will release their first "proper" live album since the 1980s, "Dea.d. Alive!", on February 5 on CD and limited-edition 12-inch vinyl plus MP3 card.

With select tracks from the band's encore set at their hometown show in New Jersey added for good measure, (recorded live on "Devil's Night," no less), "Dea.d. Alive!" is an audio Molotov cocktail guaranteed to have bonfires burning bright with pumpkin faces, day or night, all year round. Speakers will virtually melt as a torrential downpour of "Devil's Rain" engulfs the senses, catapulting you front row center into a jam-packed house of horrors.

The diverse set of modern day MISFITS classics included range from current hits like "Land Of The Dead" and "Curse Of The Mummy's Hand", on through all-new live versions of earlier-era material like "Scream!", "Dig Up Her Bones", "Helena" and more — recorded live, with a level of precision and intensity garnered in over three decades of horror business. In addition to 13 fiendish faves from the band's cryptic catalog, the live set also includes a cover version of the anthem "Science Fiction/Double Feature" (from the cult classic "Rocky Horror Picture Show") performed by the MISFITS for the first time ever on any release!

The first pressing will be made available on solid gold vinyl limited to 1,500 pieces.

"Dea.d. Alive!" track listing:

01. The Devil's Rain (3:39)
02. Vivid Red (1:44)
03. Land of the Dead (2:00)
04. Curse of the Mummy's Hand (3:18)
05. Cold in Hell (1:54)
06. Dark Shadows (3:18)
07. Death Ray (4:02)
08. Shining (2:39)
09. American Psycho (1:56)
10. Dig Up Her Bones (2:26)
11. Scream! (2:22)
12. Helena (3:24)
13. Science Fiction/Double Feature (3:17)
14. Saturday Night (4:10)

I love the Graves era stuff as much as the original material. But The Devil's Rain is so weak! Nothing against the band as musicians, they are older and perhaps less 'angsty'. But making their live album with TDR as half of it's track listing? Let's not flog ourselves too much. This is not what the core of Misfits fans want, but whatever. The Misfits have had a rebirth, and this is what we get.

As I recall, part of the the agreement with Jerry getting the Misfits name was that he couldn't re-record or release new live versions of Glenn's songs.

=No Misfits

For me the other versions of this band just don't cut it. The iconic Misfits sound is due to Danzig's vocals.

But to each there own if you like the band minus Danzig.

Fucking Jerry's Kids playing latter era pseudo-Misfits? Blah. I love the article, most likely written by Jerry himself. Honestly, I saw them in '97 with Mike, and that was fun, if not really the Misfits per se, but Jerry Only, a revolving door of drummers and one of the old Black Flag guys on guitar? How in the flying FUCK is this in ANY WAY The Misfits?

I'd actually be totally OK with it if Jerry was releasing this garbage under a name other than The Misfits...at least that way it doesn't piss on what Danzig did for the name between 77-84...

Christ, they're the Styx/REO Speedwagon of punk these days. And if that's not the ultimate sign of fucking pathetic, I guess I don't know what is...

At the risk of sounding like a complete dick, who is actually still buying this stuff?

I mean, the kids who bought Misfits hoodies only did so because Hot Topic was selling 'em and everyone who knows anything about punk rock knows that post-Danzig Misfits is about as lame as FDR's legs. But really, at this point, this is post-post-Danzig Misfits. This is post-WCW. This is post-Michale Graves. This is post-ICP association. This is a balding, 53 year old Jerry Only trying as hard as he can to still make a living milking a once great legacy. I mean, jeez, look at the track list for this release. Surely it's satire at this point, right?

I dunno. It doesn't bother me now because I know Jerry isn't going to release anything worthwhile ever again under the Misfits name. It's just funny I guess.

A.D. As in 'anno domini' or the year of dominion (or the year of the rule of Christ.) it is probably also a reference to the Misfits album Earth A.D. Or loosely songs that lived after that album.

The reason there are no songs from the original Misfits lineup, is because Jerry signed a deal with Glenn in 95 to get the name back where Glenn gets the publishing for all the old songs...

Great cover!

But the Misfits fucking died when Jerry forced his own brother to quit the band 5-6 years ago! Cause he was stealing money from Doyle, who told me this flat out last year!

I can't believe people like my 2 brothers still support this guy, he has dragged the name through the mud, he got one chance and that was the Graves/Chud lineup! And he blew it!

The Devils Rain is pretty awful, musically its not bad, but Jerry's vocals are fucking laughable!

Original Misfits...still one of the most over the top, groundbreaking bands of all time! The look, the image, the sound! Way ahead of their time!!!!

I heard Doyle also left because Jerry blew a big opprotunity for a reunion tour with Danzig, and that's why Danzig has done some of these Misfits sets with Doyle. Unfortunately, the only ting that sucks more than Jerry's Kids is Doyle's band.

My nephew saw this tour and raved about it. Love or hate it,Jerry has carried on and put together a small hall theatrical blitz. Every couple years Danzig does what ever type of partial reunion,so the interest is still there concerning the Misfits.

This newest Line-Up does nothing for me.

A band that Danzig wrote ALL the music/lyrics for. Not only could Danzig write, he could sing. I get that Jerry Only is a big part of the 'look' of the Misfits, but he can't write, and he can't sing, and he is NOT the Misfits. Jeez, his own brother won;t work with him! Fuck this big tub of lard.

Yeah whatever. The situation isn't optimal by any means, but at least Jerry's keeping the name out there and somewhat relevant so that the new generations might grab onto the current Misfits and then take the time to search back to the original Misfits stuff of the late 70's/early 80's.

I've seen Jerry's version a couple times and it's always a blast. For the ticket price, you can't go wrong. Sucks I wasn't old enough to see the Danzig version when they were active and I only got to see the Graves version once and they were great.

I said it before though... everybody gotta eat, need a roof, heat & lights. Jerry & crew are no exception. Lay off the dude already. If you don't want to accept his version then move on. You don't have to pay for jack shit if you don't want to.

I will only listen to the Graves stuff. The Danzig era stuff sucked as far as musicianship and album productions go. The just sounded like a crappy little garage band back in the Danzig days. Man some people will listen to anything! I guess that's why it's not too hard to believe some of the bands that are big now. The pro tools makes them sound better than little garage bands.

It's interesting to read all of the comments about "oh misfits were only Glen era" etc..etc...which are probably written by scenesters who first came across the Misfits when they had their first wet dream in 1990 by which time Glen had long since left. Michael Graves was & is a far better frontman & singer than Glen ever was/is and that is from someone who "discovered" the Misfits in 82 with Walk Among Us.
If the live album captures the essense of Misfits live then I'm there and BTW Michael Graves should get back with Jerry & record a new album. Glen is by all accounts a walking bag of shoulder chips so leave him to it.
