Former BLACK SABBATH Singer TONY MARTIN Signs New Publishing Deal - Jan. 14, 2013
Former BLACK SABBATH singer Tony Martin was just signed to a new music publishing deal by Alan Bambrough of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Limited. Martin says he is "very pleased" and is "looking forward to expanding into other areas."

Martin's next release will likely be the fourth album from GIUNTINI PROJECT, the Italian heavy metal band started in 1988 by guitarist Aldo Giuntini as a solo project. Tony thinks the CD should be called "The Shadow Of The Stone" after one of the album tracks, but the effort's working title remains "Giuntini 4" until a decision has been made. This will be the third GIUNTINI PROJECT album Martin has appeared on.

Tony is not one to be idle and has other guest appearances being released soon, including one with young German female artist Layla Milou and a more recent one with American female artist Veronica Freeman, vocalist with BENEDICTUM.

Martin's last solo album, "Scream", was released in November 2005 via MTM Music. The CD featured legendary drummer Cozy Powell (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE) on the track "Raising Hell" as well as songwriting contributions by another SABBATH member, Geoff Nicholls.

BLACK SABBATH released six albums with Tony Martin on vocals: "The Eternal Idol" (1987), "Headless Cross" (1989), "Tyr" (1990), "Cross Purposes" (1994), "Cross Purposes Live" (1995) and "Forbidden" (1995).

Then where has he been for the last couple decades, besides sporadic appearances, weird haircuts and trying to be satanic, or something with those outfits, complaining about the record industry and Tony Iommi?

Agree. Eternal Idol and Headless Cross are fairly solid records. Some good Iommi riffage as usual.

I hope Tony doesn't do that shaving design thing into the sides of his head anymore. It's plain weird, makes him look like a dipstick after I stop laughing long enough to process it.

They need to reissue the Sabbath albums ASAP. Headless Cross and Tyr are both excellent but it is impossible to find a copy here.

Really hope that his project with Andy La Rocque pans out. I'd love to hear some KD style metal from Tony Martin.

I read Iommi's book, and while I worship at the feet and kiss the ground he walks on, I disagreed with his summary of the Tony Martin era. Seems like Iommi's been in a big hurry to forget it after 1995, but I really enjoyed all of the Martin albums (even Forbidden - caught them on that tour, and it was fantastic. Tony was a great frontman and I had an awesome time, even if he didn't jump up and down, throw out peace symbols and tell me to clap my fuckin' hands eleventy eight times during the show).

That said, I think the Tony Martin era doesn't get a lot of respect simply due to the fact that I.R.S. Records never really did anything to promote or expose them...I actually got Cross Purposes Live well after Forbidden was released due to the fact that I never even knew it existed...

Tony Martin actually took time out of his Sabbath schedule in 1990 to send me an autographed photo, just because I took the time to write the band and ask for one (didn't get anything from anybody else...). I thought that was really awesome of him and I certainly didn't expect anything in return. He also threw in a few freebies and let me know that he might actually do a solo album soon (which ended being Back Where I Belong). I thought that was really classy and very considerate.

Don't know if anybody reading this knows or works with him or not, but hey, in the event that that's the case, tell Tony I said thanks for that. He made a 17 year old kids day, and a fan for life.
