ANTHRAX Will Not Hold Auditions For ROB CAGGIANO's Replacement - Jan. 10, 2013
ANTHRAX has announced that it will not hold auditions for guitarist Rob Caggiano's replacement.

Following an overwhelming numberof enquiries from fans aspiring to become the veteran metal band's new lead axeman, ANTHRAX released the following statement via its official Facebook page: "We love you all, and are confident you shred like Yngwie Malmsteen after a case of Red Bull, but to answer all 57,000 messages at once, WE ARE NOT DOING AUDITIONS for lead guitarist. \m/"

Caggiano announced his departure from ANTHRAX on January 4 to focus on his other passion: producing records. The remaining members of ANTHRAX said in a statement: "Rob has been an integral part of ANTHRAX for so many years, as our lead guitarist, in a production capacity, but most of all, as our close friend. His contributions to the band have been enormous. While we are sad that he is leaving, we wish him nothing but great success going forward, and hope to share the stage with him again sometime down the road."

Caggiano — whose two stints with ANTHRAX ran from 2001-2005 and 2007 to now — stated about his decision to leave the band: "We accomplished so many great things together over the years and I shared some of the best times of my life with these guys. As a band, we also weathered quite a few storms along the way. It's been a wild ride (to say the least) from Day One and I wouldn't change one single thing about the last 12 years."

Caggiano added that, "This is an extremely difficult and emotional decision for me to make, but my heart is just steering me in a different direction right now. I've always been one to follow my heart in everything that I do and while this might be one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, it feels like the right one for me at this time. Scott [Ian, guitar], Charlie [Benante, drums], Joey [Belladonna, vocals], Frankie [Bello, bass] (and [former ANTHRAX singer] John Bush) will always be part of my family and this decision doesn't change the way I feel about that in the slightest. I would also like to say thanks to all the amazing fans I've met and hung out with worldwide over the years. You guys always were and always will be the reason why I make music!"

Meanwhile, former ANTHRAX guitarist Dan Spitz, who took part in the reunion of ANTHRAX's classic lineup in 2005 and 2006 but left the band after ANTHRAX's last split with singer Joey Belladonna, has been retweeting fan requests for him to rejoin the group. He also released the following statement on January 4, the day Caggiano announced his exit from ANTHRAX: "Thank you ALL for your outpouring of LOVE today regarding my musical direction and the events that have transpired in the metal world. I feel so blessed to call all of you my family. I am truly touched down deep into my repaired heart. At a time when I needed LOVE so badly, HE delivered. As usual in HIS time.

"Please know my guitar, my soul and the art I've been given to give to all of you will prevail, and hopefully touch many on my road to help children in the autism community as well.

"Keeping up the fight. . . . Feel free to pray for my family as well.

"I love you all."

hard point to argue, Rob is a monster on guitar, ANY guitarist with skill understands this. Was wondering about Danny because of the whole thing with playing among the living (the album) live on the next tour. I bet these guys have known for a while this was going down, and we'll see if Danny is back for good. it really looks that way.

I dont think Spitz could handle it. He has a child with severe issues. Wouldnt be right for him to walk away from that for a touring band. SOmetimes you gotta grow up.

I love Antharx as much as the next fanboy but I feel like it's been a rollercoaster career with so many people in and out of this band...it's hard to follow. I think the best thing to do is get Spitz back and go on an extended farewell tour. Circle the globe a few times and go out on top with your heads held high....then call it a day and move on to other projects.

I agree.

But, the problem is that the Anthrax business owners (Charlie and Scott) have nothing else in their life. Anthrax is their complete identity (and paycheck). With families (and mortgages and whatever), it would be really difficult for them to give up something that they are affiliated with.

Reacts to...' videos...There are so many of them too.

Stupid to suggest Anthrax go on a farewell tour, that's career suicide and I sure as shit hope nobody suggests that to me when I'm in my 40's. If you personally can't handle the fact that Anthrax is still around in your world where all bands stay together forever then please by all means pay them no attention.

Anyway...I'd like to see Spitz back - it's worth a shot.

It would be fun to see Spitz back for another nostalgia thing, but for the band in general, it would be a step backwards for them. I'd like to see a better lead player step up to replace Rob. No offense to Spitz, but the band really leapt forward in terms of quality with Paul and Rob on lead. Spitz is an pretty good lead player, but they need someone excellent to keep the band's momentum going. I'm sure they have a 'name' guitarist in the wings, waiting on the legal paperwork to get signed. Could be Glen Drover, I heard he left his last gig recently. . .

the best Anthrax albums have Spitz on lead guitar. When they were writing that disapponting stomp 555 album, Dan spitz was so bored with the generc grunge rock that he departed the band and anthrax abandoned the duelguitar shred attack alltogether during the grungy '90s. Rob Caggiano is great, but if he's left the band they have to get spitz back if theyre playing the entire ATL album live. Im sure the worship music songs will sound grreat if spitz plays the leads.

That video just made me laugh my ass off! I agree with Hitler (did I just say that?) 100 percent on this one. If they get Spitz back after Caggiano they are going backwards. I actually don;t even care who will be playing in Anthrax now. WM is great but they are a disaster and they don't deserve my attention or money anymore. I'm more concerned with Rob's next move! Is he just producing now? WTF? His press statement is a little vague in that sense. It would really suck if he doesn't get his ass back out there soon. I'd love a new Damned Things record too but thats doubtful now after this went down with Anthrax/Scott I guess.

For those people who took the time to read a post about Anthrax, a band they clearly don't like, then took even more time to post something about how much they hate the band and how much they suck, etc., etc., you should do this immediately: take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you're suck a f***ing douchebag piece of sh*t. IF YOU HATE ANTHRAX, WHY THE HELL DID YOU READ THIS STORY IN THE FIRST PLACE? Oh, I get it ... because we all want to hear your enlightened opinion. Yeah...not so much. You and your being-a-dick-for-the-sake-of-being-a-dick attitude can go away now.

First and foremost, super funny video but Rob's departure means that the band is in one hell of a crisis again. Question is: why does he want to leave while the band has done one of the most amazing comebacks in the metal history? I would be amazed if Dan played with the guys once again after they treated him like a shit in the comeback tour (exactly like in Joey's case) and additionally Dan's priorities must have changed while he must take care of his children day in day out.

we've got to remember that when Dan left during the recording of Stomp 442, they didn't replace him right away. Charlie played most of the leads up until we've come for you all, when they booked Rob to produce the album and he could shred like fuck! And on top of that, everybody wants Danny back now. Even I do that... but remember that he has twins with autism. I don't think he'll be able to go on tour for too long because of that! that being said, I've got my fingers crossed for the return of the TMNT jackson guitar axeman.
