IRON MAIDEN Bassist Announces BRITISH LION European Tour - Jan. 10, 2013
IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris will take his new solo/side project BRITISH LION out on the road next month, visiting fourteen countries and twenty-four cities across Europe, starting in Portugal on February 21. For the first time ever, and as a major surprise to many, MAIDEN's bass player, founding member and leader will take temporary leave from his MAIDEN activities and heading out on a full European club tour.

Steve comments: "I love touring and live shows and I'm very excited about touring with BRITISH LION. It's fantastic to get out there and once again experience the sheer vibrancy of small clubs with the fans right up front and in your face. I think the fans will enjoy that too. It's exciting, going back to the roots, and it's going to be fantastic. We are taking this to clubs all round Europe — a full club tour, with club shows at club prices, hot, sweaty and loud. We have no idea how many people will turn out to see us, as it's obviously very recent and very new, so we have kept the venues small with tickets priced accordingly as low as we reasonably could.

"I've known all the guys in the band for ages and, besides being great musicians, they are also good friends, which is lucky because this has been an ongoing project for many years! They've had to be very patient with me as, of course, I'm so involved with MAIDEN I don't really get a lot of free time to work on other stuff. So it's great to finally have the opportunity to get out and do all these shows. The reaction to the album has been really good and I think it will sound great live. We're all planning to have a lot of fun on this tour!"

The dates are as follows:

Feb. 21 - Portugal - Porto Hard Club
Feb. 23 - Spain - Madrid La Riviera
Feb. 24 - Spain - Barcelona Salamandra
Feb. 26 - Switzerland Zurich Komplex
Feb. 27 - Italy - Milan Live Club

"Us Against The World", the latest video from Steve Harris's BRITISH LION, can be seen below. The song comes off his first-ever solo release, "British Lion", which sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"British Lion" was released in the U.S. on September 25, 2012 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). Mixed by Kevin Shirley — whose credits include IRON MAIDEN as well as Led ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY and RUSH, among many others — the CD, which features Harris alongside vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists Graham Leslie and David Hawkins and drummer Simon Dawson, presents a different side of the bassist's musical visions.

"British Lion" comprises ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on between IRON MAIDEN tours and releases and is described by Harris as "'70s-influenced, British-sounding hard rock." "I'd say it's more mainstream rock than metal... and quite commercial… but good commercial," he said. "There's all kinds of stuff going on, with nods to THE WHO and UFO and some classic British rock bands, but it's not the progressive rock album some might be expecting."

"British Lion" track listing:

01. This Is My God
02. Lost Worlds
03. Karma Killer
04. Us Against The World
05. The Chosen Ones
06. A World Without Heaven
07. Judas
08. Eyes Of The Young
09. These Are The Hands
10. The Lesson

it has nothing to do with any roots. this is extremely weak album and all copies are bought by die hard maiden fans who collect everything that comes from any maiden member or the band itself..

...I kinda like the album, some songs are great. Hoping for some Maiden stuff too...songs they don't usually play, like Still Life, Infinite Dreams or Innocent Exile would be great!

The music is stale and generic and they have a singer who doesn't sing. He needs to roar those lyrics out more. Even then though, it would still be an underwhelming album.

I tried about four times to like this solo effort. Couldn't do it. I wasn't expecting maiden (that'd be stupid) but it was some boring uninspired material. I love the shit outta Steve Harris and it pains me not to like something that has his name on it but it truly sucks.

Ugh those vocals are just whiny, out of place, and sounds like no effort is being put into them. No thanks.

and maybe have paul come up on stage to cover strange world, or remember tomorrow. The British Lion album requires numerous listens to get appreciate, but its a good rock album completely removed from Iron Maiden

People need to realise that Blaze and Di'Anus have been releasing material as shitty as this for years yet they still only sell albums and get venues on the back of being in Maiden.

A random person off the street that could do a better job on vocals. No power whatsoever. I even tried looking away to see if this guy's lack of charisma was part of it, but it didn't help. It's clearly got potential, since it's got that classic Steve Harris bass sound, and the dual axes, but the vocals absolutely emasculate that song. Paul Dianno could do better. How does an icon like Steve Harris not have great vocalists lining up to sing on this?????? Just in England, you could grab Tony Martin, Steve Grimmett...lots of other NWOBHM singers not doing much.

Steve at least produced side recrod and side project that ultimately sucks in my opinion from all aspects, but again i am happy about him if he is excited about, personally loves this project and wants it to share to the world. This is good from two aspects: if he put his british lion works into iron maiden product that would had negative impact on the next record and second aspect this is good for him to do a change a kind of refreshment from doing the same thing for decades and will bring him back in Maiden with more creative energy. Steve I am sure that this tour will prove to you what really is Steve Harris in Iron Maiden and what really is Steve outside Maiden.

Steve writes almost everything for Maiden but his solo record was written by the other musicians except for a few tracks.

Steve Harris failed to impress with his solo venture. We all expected him to go the prog route and offer us great, epic material pushing the limits of what maiden did. Instead we got a lousy semi-commercial form of washed-up hard rock with a band of amateurs and a singer no one can bear. I wonder what motivated him to release this, really. If its an albums of good friends having fun together, I am ok with it. Otherwise it's a load of crap I would dare put my name on if I was Steve Harris.

This guy actually thinks people want to hear this? I'd rather see Adrian Smith's band Primal Rock Rebellion. Didn't he see all those bad reviews?
