METALLICA Still Supporting Parents Of Murdered Fan - Jan. 4, 2013
According to The Pulse Of Radio, more than three years after 20-year-old METALLICA fan Morgan Harrington vanished after leaving one of the band's concerts, only for her remains to be found several months later, the young girl's parents say that the band is still supporting their efforts to solve her murder and bring her killer to justice. Morgan's mother, Gil Harrington, told Noisecreep, "It has been humbling from the very beginning. Two days after Morgan was abducted, they could have distanced themselves from an ugly occurrence. But [METALLICA frontman] James Hetfield called this house to speak to Dan [Harrington, Morgan's dad], as a father, and asked, 'What can we do?' Three years out, they are still doing things. James participated with the FBI and did public service announcements."

METALLICA has also added $50,000 to the $100,000 reward already offered by the Harringtons for information on their daughter's murder, and invested another $50,000 in a scholarship named in her memory.

Yet another $40,000 from the sale of a special "Enter Sandman" T-shirt was donated in Harrington's name to a medical scholarship fund at Virginia Tech, where the victim was a student.

The case remains unsolved and Morgan's parents continue to press the investigation in the hope that the killer does not claim another victim.

Morgan vanished while hitchhiking home from the band's show on the Virginia Tech campus on October 17, 2009. Her remains were found on a farm about 10 miles from the venue in January 2010.

METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo told The Pulse Of Radio at the time how he felt when he first heard about the tragic incident. "I mean, I was crushed," he said. "Stuff like this just really, really bums me out, especially when you are a parent and you have children. I mean, it's the worst thing that you could ever imagine."

Although her killer is still at large, the FBI has used DNA evidence to link him to a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax County. Authorities have not been able to identify the suspect but have released sketches of what he may look like.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Virginia State Police at 434-352-3467.

May not be a fan of Metallica anymore but it's very cool of them to do this. Much respect.

... could have backed away from this, or just released a simple statement and been done with it. Kudos to Metallica for going above and beyond, and not allowing it to just fade away.

Notice the lack of replies to a Metallica posting when it's something positive about the band. If it was about their music there would already be 85 replies insulting Lars' drumming.

That if this had been Megadeth, Dave Mustaine would instead be "praying" for them... and going on about it.

Says it all about religion, really.

That's because Lars' drumming sucks. I don't see how the two are contradictory...

Is just fine for Metallica.

I think you are probably just a trigger-kick machine gun kiddie that needs a full, impacted rectum of quadruple bass every second so you can feel "Oh so Hardcore"

This is a nice PR move for Metallica...

I'll bet they'll have footage of thier $upport in thier next "reality tv" DVD.

They have no musical ability but plenty of money...so this makes good sense to them...as long as they keep the cameras rolling !

Things like this reaffirm my 27yr belief that James Hetfield is the greatest rockstar ever to walk this earth.

This did not happen at VT. It happened when Metallica played their show on the campus of The University of Virgina. That said, what the members of Metallica are doing in this situation, is a class move. No longer a fan anymore, but they deserve credit where credit is due.

Thanks for pointing that discrepancy out, but I was about to ask why Virginia Tech has to be associated with shit like this (after all, that was the same university that gave rise to an NFL QB-turned-dog fighting ringleader, and a 2007 massacre happened there as well).

Money will probably not help the parents but the band's support probably means a lot to them. I don't like their music at all these days but they are definitely good people. Catching the killer will not bring their daughter back to life but it could prevent this guy from hurting others in the future which is more important.

I have always thought Metallica were a bunch of greedy millionaire rock stars ever since the Napster debacle, but this is the kind of thing that really puts things into perspective. They could've easily ignored this tragedy and let the case go cold. But the fact of the matter is, a girl had her life taken from her in cold blood, and although nothing will bring her back, her family has every right to see justice done and finally have closure for this awful tragedy, and even after 3 years, the band is still doing this for her family.

Way to go, Metallica. That is a really cool, and classy move.
I really hope this guy gets caught, tried, and convicted.
There should also be a safe place to go, a waiting area, for kids that have left, and re-entered, especially when the venue is in bum-fucked-egypt. The entire tragedy could have been prevented, or at least not perpetuated upon her, if she had been able to re-enter the venue, and wait for her friends.
I remember how life sucked before I had my own wheels.
