PESTILENCE: New Album Cover Art Unveiled - Jan. 1, 2013
Resurrected late '80s/early '90s death metallers PESTILENCE will enter the studio in February to begin recording their new album, "Obsideo". The drum tracks on the CD will be laid down by Dave Haley of Australia's PSYCROPTIC. Songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Necromorph", "Saturation", "Soulrot", "Laniatus" and "Superconcious". According to guitarist/vocalist Patrick Mameli, the CD's overall lyrical theme will be "the journey of the human soul."

The "Obsideo" cover art has now been unveiled and can be seen below.

PESTILENCE 2013 is:

Patrick Mameli - Lead guitar/Vocals
Patrick Uterwijk - Lead guitar
Stefan Fimmers - Bass
David Haley - Drums

PESTILENCE's latest album, "Doctrine", was released in North America in July 2011 via Mascot Records. The eleven-track CD was recorded and mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer Victor Bullok (a.k.a. V. Santura; TRIPTYKON, DARK FORTRESS). The artwork was designed by Marko Saarelainen.

Not a fan of their reunion albums. Although aleast with the last one they tried experimenting a bit more. Hopefully it clicks on this one.

Cover art looks ridiculous. It looks like a mash-up of Meshuggah's ObZen and Gorod's A Perfect Absolution.

He was on the first two. Malleus Malefircarum and Consuming Impulse.

Well, that right there should tell you something about the man's unique influence - people still talking about and missing his vocals some 25 years later

The cover looks like a weird mix of Spheres, Testimony and ObZen, but it's good that Pestilence are experimenting. If they're going to be a band and butcher the original songs by playing them slower and on 8 strings, might as well do something new. Spheres is actually one of my favourite albums, as much as I love the first three.

Doctrine might have been decent if they didn't go the 8 string route, and Resurrection had some good riffs and bass work.

I like the classic Pestilence stuff but I have no complaints about their evolution. Bring on the new one.

Pestilence may not be like they were on their older stuff but Doctrine kicked ass. After listening to it for the last year or so I gotta say I spin it quite regularly. Listening to it through headphones and not speakers...well there's much textures and layers to their recent work.

Looking forward to this new one!

Yeah, the cover art does look as if they borrowed a few ideas here and there. Not to mention it looks like a bad photoshop job. Aside from that, it should be a killer album!

While Martin and Patrick get along these days, both Martin and Patrick have said that it's not going to happen. Van Drunen is all about old-school, hell, he sings in 3 OSDM bands. Pestilence hasn't been old-school since the old-school was new and exciting!

I'm not sure what most of you heard on that last album but it was a far cry from the expectations I have with the name Pestilence. Generic, boring death metal that showed zero songwriting ability and sub-par vocals. I was embarrased to own it.

That being said, I did like the first comeback album and have enjoyed, obviously, the rest of their catalogue.

For those who are screaming for Martin, it ain't gonna happen with Pestilence - just get over it. List to Asphyx, Hail Of Bullets, or Grand Supreme Bloodcourt for your fix. All are equally brutal.

Pestilence, or that guy who pissed his audience back then because he was 'over' Death Metal but who's back because any of his more 'avant-garde' project generated ZERO interest. Fuck that poser!

Their Van Drunen era was the best because, outside the vocals, the music was also interesting.
