BLACK SABBATH Tops HMV's Classic-Rock T-Shirt Chart - Dec. 31, 2012
According to the Belfest Telegraph, BLACK SABBATH has topped retailer HMV's list of best-selling classic rock shirts, with LED ZEPPELIN taking the second and third spots.

SABBATH's U.S. tour shirt from 1978 reportedly experienced a sales surge after it was worn by Robert Downey Jr. in hit movie "Avengers Assemble".

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said classic rock shirts have continued to have an enduring appeal. "More often than not, rock T-shirts used to be something you'd wear to gigs to see your favorite bands, but over time demand has broadened and they've since become a bit of a fashion statement in their own right," he said.

"Some performers can quickly come and go with the trends, but one genre that has an enduring appeal and seems to remain eternally popular with fans is classic rock and metal."

He added: "This year over half the top 30 best-selling T-shirts at HMV were made up of vintage artists and, even though many of them have not been active with new material, they continue to sell in large quantities as many of these acts are revered, and with that comes a level of cool-ness and style that money or promotion can't always buy.

"Along with the baby boomers who grew up with their music, a new generation of fans are increasingly into them as well, in part out of a recognition that many of the featured T-shirt images now rank as design classics that not only look great but have a real authenticity about them."

...but it's a shame that you need a spot in a movie to move a Black Sabbath shirt. The music should be enough, but unfortunately the world sucks.

That's a hell of a wish list. I would also like a Jackson flying V, a BC rich Warlock, A CD pressing of the decline of western civilization pt 2 the metal years, an original Boba Fett in it's original packaging, and the Lucifer's Friend cd "Banquet". Maybe a glass of ice water when I get to hell.

I don't know Riotact666, you've become even more of a tool lately than I anticipated.

Enough with the bring back Bill Ward stuff. I think if anyone has actually been paying attention to the situation they could figure out they didn't kick him out, he decieded not to participate. Also the whole contract situation has much more to do with Bill's abbility in the studio at this time than him not getting his fair share of money. There is alot more going on!

I thought this would happen as soon as i saw it in the movie. People are such lemmings. They don't even know what they're wearing. That shirt is from a low point in Sabbath's history. Never Say Die is the worst album the original band did except for Technical Ecstacy. Burn that shirt posers, and never go to Hot Topic again unless you want some shitty nu-metal shirt.

you're a fucking idiot if you think Never Say Die is a bad record. Jr's Eyes, Shockwave, title track, Swinging the Chain, I don't think there's a bad track on that record, that's my opinion and you have yours. Yours is retarted.

Never Say Die and Technical Ectasy are incredible albums. Just because they're not as heavy as their previous efforts does'nt make them bad. IMO, the writing and arrangements of the songs are genious. Every Sabbath album is great but I prefer the last 4 albums with Ozzy than the first four.

well stated, Sabotage, SBS, Technical, and NSD are fucking amazing. And, I would love to interview Tony on just his writing alone on those last two records. He really thought out of the box, and the arrangements are crazy too.

cool looking shirt. But don't call yourself a fan if you bought it just because it looked cool.

Now if you had bought the shirt IN 1978 and still had it, yeah, that's a fan.

Otherwise, don't bother.

Nobody beats Motorhead 'warpig' shirt as top seller, even lemmy said we sell more shirts than albums. Everyone is a poser.

Glad i still have the true Sabbath Reunioun 666 tour shirt from 1999. With all the members on the shirt and pantera on the back.

Anyone remember when Motorhead t-shirts were fashionable for trendies around 1998?

I approached one woman wearing one (knowing she wasn't a fan) and asked what her favorite Motorhead song was. She had no idea what I was talking about.

I would say these sales are probably more with metal heads as opposed to trendies, but you never know.

Glad I got mine when I saw them when they played Download (extra wording on front/back)

Never Say Die is a good album, I usually skip Air Dance though.
