MUSTAINE Inspired By 'Jesus And CLINT EASTWOOD' While Laying Down Vocals For New MEGADETH Album - Dec. 26, 2012
MEGADETH recently resumed work on its fourteenth studio album with producer Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis), who has previously worked with DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD and STAIND. The CD is currently being recorded at MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California for an early 2013 release via an as-yet-undisclosed label following the band's recent split with Roadrunner Records.

In a tweet earlier today, Mustaine wrote: "Cutting vocals today! Some inspiration! Jesus and Clint Eastwood!"

Mustaine also attached a photo with his tweet (see below) which appears to reveal a new songtitle: "Nothing To Remember".

Mustaine previously told NME about the direction of MEGADETH's new material, "Some of it's a little darker, some of it's a little faster. Being in this position right now, not knowing where we're gonna go or what we're gonna do, it's kind of like the world's ours to do what we want. Are we gonna go back to the speed and thrash metal roots that made us who we are? Are we gonna experiment and rely on the melody that we've discovered in MEGADETH songs?"

Mustaine also spoke about how he likes to keep MEGADETH's music more melodic than that of most thrash bands. "We've tried to do that in MEGADETH, have a little melody so that it's not just the same old grinding music like everybody else has," he said. "We're just happy to get going and get to the studio."

Johnny K produced MEGADETH's last album, 2011's "TH1RT3EN", which was also recorded at Vic's Garage. Mustaine previously stated about the recording process for "TH1RT3EN", "We've got a great new partner with Johnny K. I mean, I was satisfied with our last co-producer, with Andy Sneap, and Andy really took us — and he even admits — as far as he could take us, and it was great because we wanted to go back to the big leagues where we were, and we feel that Johnny is, obviously, a big-league producer; not that Andy isn't — don't get me wrong. But we feel that this record is definitely one of our best. It's a great feeling, because, you know, finishing some of the last record, I can honestly say, in my heart I knew that it wouldn't contend with some of the great records in the past, just because of the timing, the label that we were on and stuff like that. Lineup changes and stuff… But I really think that everything just lined up for this record."

"TH1RT3EN" sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD marked the recorded return of bassist David Ellefson who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with MEGADETH in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This was the first time Ellefson has played on a MEGADETH record since 2002's "Rude Awakening".

No, just not about religion all the time, which is what Dave does, unfortunately. Religion and politics simply do not mix in metal. They need to be kept out. It should only be used for certain groups that use that to cater to a specific audience, but not here.

The paradox is that Mustaine (and many others) are doing more harm than good to christianity. He doesn't act like a true christian would want to anyway; there's still very much violence, hate and dark elements in his music and in his manners (just because you don't sing about satan, it's doesn't mean it couldn't be satanic). So the whole mess becomes extremely absurd and hypocritical. I think it's very american thing actually: there's some weird, I mean very weird approaches of Christianity out there.

Actually it could be from the Spinal Tap: an american Christian metal artist who curses like a sailor, tours with a bands whose main subject is the devil and shouts out loud an extremely laughable political views.

Of course, no one's perfect and doesn't have to be, but still...

This guy should stick to religion and Metal, not sure what makes him get off politics. Sounds like his interest in politics barely started, but after a while, he'll realize and learn political crap is beyond any of us and just gets boring. Them elected mfs, no matter what party, they spend the time fighting each other in a power thug of war, & the rest of the time doing not a damned thing! Just like Mustaine, right,?

I can see this will be another "Christian" metal album from Megadeth?

Wondering what I mean by "another"? Well the last Megadeth album was so tepid, so half-assed, so droning, so unthinking, so repetitive, with such shitty nonsense lyrics about shitty nonsense subjects. It was like listening to the fucking Bible on audiotape. Is Dave trying to write The Bible II? Because his output certainly sucks enough ass to qualify

Peace Sells...But Who's Buying
(D. Mustaine)

What do you mean I don't believe in God?
Talk to him every day
What do you mean I don't support your system?
I go to court when I have to
What do you mean I can't get to work on time?
Got nothing better to do
What do you mean I don't pay my bills?
Why do you think I'm broke? Huh?

If there's a new way
I'll be the first in line
But, it better work this time

What do you mean I hurt your feelings?
I didn't know you had any feelings
What do you mean I ain't kind?
Just not your kind
What do you mean I couldn't be President Of the United States of America?
Tell me something, it's still 'We the people', right?

Ok, so...for those not in the know. The above was quite obviously a brief excerpt of the lyrics from one of Megadeth's most popular/biggest hits all the way back in 1986. It seems to me that Dave tackles both religion and politics quite clearly all the way back on their 2nd album.

I'm quite confident his newest effort won't have anything more direct or obvious than lyrics such as those referenced above. The guy has been political from the start, get with the program.

How is this news??? Blabbermouth obviously posted knowing it would gain a negative reaction from most people.

I really couldn't care less where he channels his vocals from, he has never been a great singer anyway. (although i doubt he will be utilizing the devil as inspiration for his riffs and solos)

And why do people care that he has become religious? He has lived a very tough life of addiction, and if religion keeps him on the straight and narrow good for him.

Blabbermouth should be reporting on the things that are newsworthy within the metal scene, not this off the cuff twitter comment from Mustaine.

Clint Eastwood's character Dirty Harry is a walking 'megadeath', the ultimate badass of straight forward justice with absolutely no bullshit. I wish Megadeth would make a full album based on Dirty Harry. And make it with an emphasis on fast, hard and heavy thrash metal elements.

However, I don't wish to have a double headlining tour like this:

GOD, GUNS & GOVERNMENT tour 2013

MEGADETH

ICED EARTH

Dave Mustaine & Jon Schaffer:
- everything about the Presidential elections of 2012

Dave Ellefson:
- bible & bass clinic

Schaffer needs to go back to writing about demonic comic book characters like Spawn again. It was silly, but hey it had a charm to it.

That's it. He's trolling us. He was tired of being an awesome idol for 80s kids, so he became Karl Rove.

Going back and hearing Peace Sells and a couple of the other early records just makes me sad. Mustaine is prolly the single greatest fall from Metal Grace I can think of. Fuck this guy. I wish him no success and hope he just goes the fuck away.

It makes me laugh, how many of you think you know these stars.....The majority of them only show you what they want you to see. Just listen or don't.

Don't know why people are bothered by Mustaine's Christianity. Tom Araya is a Catholic, Peter Steele was too.

I see a strong connection between drug use and believing in things that are not actually there. Be that hallucinations during a trip or delusions of a past addicts damaged brain.

Christians talking about being Christians: woohoo, awesome! Atheists talking about being Atheists: OH NO THEY'RE SUPPRESSING MY FREEDOM OF RELIGION! How about we stop talking about religion. I don't give a fuck what people believe in, if they tell me, it's just another stick I will use to beat them with. It's like randomly telling people when you last wet your bed.

I thought Dave already had a song about chairs. Wasn't it called "Kick the Chair"? Maybe it's about kicking the chair Clint Eastwood was talking to during his speech.

It is by no means an accident that religious fruit loops and right wing wacko gun nuts are interchangable terms. One and the same...

It's simple.

People who are fucking stupid and cowardly enough to believe
in zombies, pregnant virgins, people that can part the sea, and once upon a time there were two humans and a snake...

Are usually immature enough to believe that everyone wants
to break in to their house and steal their DVD collection or their Nascar collector plates or their 12 pack of Keystone. They protect all this useless shit with a gun (or collection of guns) that cost more money than the cheap ass things they think they will have to guard with their lives.

The reality is.. they're far more likely to shoot themselves, a family member or neighbor or just freak out about the possibilities 24/7/all their lives. And then if and when... there ever came a day when somebody did break in... chances are they are more skilled at using a gun and have one themselves, and have to shoot the dipshit gun owner because Dirty Harry gave him no other choice..

A complete nation of dipshits in this country.
