MEGADETH Mainman Issues New Album Update - Dec. 21, 2012
MEGADETH has resumed work on its fourteenth studio album with producer Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis), who has previously worked with DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD and STAIND. The CD is tentatively due in early 2013 via an as-yet-undisclosed label following MEGADETH's recent split with Roadrunner Records.

In a tweet earlier today, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine wrote: "Shawn [Drover, drums] and David [Ellefson, bass] have finished tracking songs 1, 2, and 3 and now it’s my turn today. I feel a burning in my soul!!! Arrrrggghhh!"

Mustaine previously told NME about the direction of MEGADETH's new material, "Some of it's a little darker, some of it's a little faster. Being in this position right now, not knowing where we're gonna go or what we're gonna do, it's kind of like the world's ours to do what we want. Are we gonna go back to the speed and thrash metal roots that made us who we are? Are we gonna experiment and rely on the melody that we've discovered in MEGADETH songs?"

Mustaine also spoke about how he likes to keep MEGADETH's music more melodic than that of most thrash bands. "We've tried to do that in MEGADETH, have a little melody so that it's not just the same old grinding music like everybody else has," he said. "We're just happy to get going and get to the studio."

Johnny K produced MEGADETH's last album, 2011's "TH1RT3EN", which was recorded at Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California. Mustaine previously stated about the recording process for "TH1RT3EN", "We've got a great new partner with Johnny K. I mean, I was satisfied with our last co-producer, with Andy Sneap, and Andy really took us — and he even admits — as far as he could take us, and it was great because we wanted to go back to the big leagues where we were, and we feel that Johnny is, obviously, a big-league producer; not that Andy isn't — don't get me wrong. But we feel that this record is definitely one of our best. It's a great feeling, because, you know, finishing some of the last record, I can honestly say, in my heart I knew that it wouldn't contend with some of the great records in the past, just because of the timing, the label that we were on and stuff like that. Lineup changes and stuff… But I really think that everything just lined up for this record."

"TH1RT3EN", sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD marked the recorded return of bassist David Ellefson who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with MEGADETH in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This was the first time Ellefson has played on a MEGADETH record since 2002's "Rude Awakening".

is a great producer. His work is a little more 'organic' than Andy Sneap in my opinion (not to say that Andy isn't great as well).

I hope Metallica gets a producer like Johnny K, Brendon O'Brien, or Nick Raskulinecz for the next album. Rick Rubin albums sound like shit some times.

It was a question: "Are we gonna go back to the speed and thrash metal roots that made us who we are?"

One of the reasons I love Megadeth is because they put out albums a lot faster than most bands. I have a feeling this is gonna be a good album!

Amen to THAT brother. Love Megadeth. I remember whan bands would but out a new album EVERY Year! Sometimes they would put out 2 in a year. Now you are lucky if a band puts out new product every 3 years....

Too many bands waste too much time between albums. All the good classic rock bands released much of their best stuff in quick succession.

to make Mustaine look more like the fucking douche that he is.

My favorite band for most of my life, and now I can't even listen to them anymore because of Mustaine's fucking fat mouth. He can't even shut the fuck up in concert. Constantly spewing mindless right wing bullshit. Fucking idiot.

Dave needs to get back on the heroin or at least start drinking again. He also needs to fire Drover because he is the weakest link and the most uninspiring drummer I have ever heard.

but what I really wanted to say is I liked ENDGAME much better than THIRTEEN......

I THOUGHT ENDGAME FUCKING KILLED !

Don't know why 44 MINUTES is not considered one of the all time great Metal songs in all of recorded history

I consider 44 MINUTES to be right up there with Sympany Of Destruction , and the instrumental that opens the album FUCKING KILLS more than anything since Judas Priest opened an album with The Hellion.....

Surprised Megadeth played the tiny Marquee Theater in Tempe AZ a few weeks ago , if they would just bring Motorhead and maybe another band like Testament , they could have played in downtown Phoenix in the AA Arena and pulled over 10,000 people

(With an open floor setup)

Hope the new album puts Megadeth back into headlining arenas where they belong......

He's playing tiny venues now because of his stupid comments about the theatre massacre. His fanbase took a hit. He knows it too.

P.S. Endgame wasn't bad, but 44 Minutes was horrible. That whiney chorus alone ruins the entire song. Not even close to being a classic metal song. Sorry.

Since the Big-4, a lot of the nu-Metallica fanbase latched on to Megadeth. He could shit on a plate now and it will be a masterpiece.

too bad Megadave's gone off the deep end with the xtian, right wing bullshit. Plus he's starting to sound like he's starting to read his own press clippings and believing the hype he helped create.

For me Megadeth was always a band I liked, never loved. Seems Megadave was too much of a petty dick to like. But that's just me I guess.

Seems a it planned out, "hmm, If i make good with Lars and co. that'll get me in good with the "tallica fanbase", play the big 4 gigs, leave that little shithole RR (sorry guys) for a bigger label, get a bigger name producer to make Megadave sound a bit more um...organic. Maybe, just maybe I can sell a few more albums.

Seems credible to me.

I guess we all must kiss some ass to get by in life, huh?

Although I find Dave very hard to listen to sometimes, I am all for anyone and everyone speaking their mind and giving their opinion. When I go to Megadeth show, I expect Dave to rant a bit, its what he does. Do I agree with him, rarely. But im happy for him to speak freely. Thats what makes Blabbermouth posters awsome, they always speak their own truth and fuck anyone who disagrees with them.

I doubt you could find that kind of passion for music within any other genre!

I hope the new album is good, cos 13 didn't grab my attention at all, I find the drumming to be repetative and boring, I'm sure Shaun D can bring alot more to the table, but he needs to innovate his style.

Either way heres hoping for a big year for Metal in 2013!

Where's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz?

Clearly, this album tweet was staged by president Obama, who has now gained mind control over the mayor of London. Vic's Garage isn't real, but Dave Mustaine is just keeping the world of the Jesus intact. The NRA will sponsor the Indy 500 and Gummibears are the liberals of the candyworld.
