CANDLEMASS, ENTOMBED And EUROPE Named Greatest Swedish Hard Rock/Metal Bands Of All Time - Dec. 20, 2012
Sweden Rock Magazine, Scandinavia's biggest hard rock magazine and Sweden's top-selling music magazine, celebrate issue #100 by naming the 100 greatest Swedish bands of all time.

"Over the past couple of decades, it's hard to think of another country with a population equivalent to that of New York that's had such an impact on hard rock and metal as Sweden has," says editor-in-chief Martin Carlsson. "When Sweden Rock Magazine turns 100, it's only fitting that we pay tribute to the many great talents this country has produced."

In Sweden Rock Magazine #100, the doom masters CANDLEMASS are named the greatest Swedish band of all time.

"To get such an acknowledgement from Sweden Rock Magazine for what we've achieved over almost 30 years is just fantastic. Today, the phenomenon CANDLEMASS is much greater than its individual parts," says CANDLEMASS mainman Leif Edling.

Number two on the list are the legendary death metallers ENTOMBED.

For a CD single sent exclusively to the magazine's subscribers with #100, CANDLEMASS have recorded a heavy version of ENTOMBED's classic death'n'roll song "To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth" and ENTOMBED have covered CANDLEMASS uptempo song "Black Dwarf".

"In sports, being number two means you've lost, but since CANDLEMASS are doing a cover of ENTOMBED we see this as a victory," says ENTOMBED vocalist L-G Petrov.

EUROPE, one of Sweden's biggest music exports of all time, are number three on the list.

"We took the long road back and now we've arrived. We used to say that one day this band is going to amount to something. I'm so proud of our crew and my friends in EUROPE," says EUROPE vocalist Joey Tempest.

CANDLEMASS and ENTOMBED both take the stage for two special concerts at Sweden Rock Magazine's 100th-issue party at Debaser Medis in Stockholm, Sweden on January 26, 2013. Tickets are on sale and cost SEK 220. Ticket information: www.debaser.se

It's good to see Candlemass, At the Gates, Entombed and Opeth get some recognition, but what about Bathory?

be something in Swedens water. So many great bands in such a short amount of time. i'd have put Opeth on top, but I guess the Heritage travesty knocked em down a few pegs.

That is quite an incredible list- only listened to about 20 of them though if this mag took the stance of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, ABBA & Roxette would be listed with Watain and Dissection

I like Ghost but they don't really deserve to be in big font; Malmstten is far more influential and Amon Amarth are just far more fun!

Not 1 mention of Coroner. This band was one of the best tech metal bands of all time. They never even get mention on their home country. Why does this band never get mention?A 3 piece band that played tech metal that a 5 piece band could not pull off. Ron, Markey and Tommy and are great musicians and wrote great lyrics,.Yet,they never get mention. What a shame and crock.

Opeth should be in the top five. Maybe four with the genius that is Heritage.

You could've easily thrown out hellalot of bands out of the list and add fucking Dimension Zero, Scar Symmetry, Grotesque, Carnal Forge, Comecon, Regurgitate, Soils Of Fate, October Tide instead.

And yeah... Refused deserve to be here too.

I only know one track by Europe, you might have heard it, 'The Final Crackdown'. It is a keyboard-driven pop song. The aural equivalent of an anal fissure that never heals.

Opeth, Meshuggah and Bathory > The Final Crackdown.

I Think in general the greatest 3 should be: Yngwie Malmsteen, Bathory & Meshugghah. But also there is In Flames, At The Gates, Dark Tranquility, Opeth, the 3 above listed & HammerFall.

Bathory would come before Entombed on my list. Sweden surely provided us with the finest harvest of metal bands in the last two decades. It's cool to see Candlemass getting the accolades for once.

Candlemass, Bathory, Entombed: that's a power trio of heavyweights!
