DROWNING POOL: New Song Available For Free Download - Dec. 18, 2012
"One Finger And A Fist", a brand new song from Texas heavy rockers DROWNING POOL, is available for free download at the band's official web site for 48 hours only. The track will appear on the band's fifth album, which is due out in early 2013 via Eleven Seven Music. The band teamed up with producer Kato Khandwalla at House of Loud Studios in New Jersey, as well as John Feldmann (THE USED, STORY OF THE YEAR), and completed the album in Dallas.

DROWNING POOL bassist Stevie Benton recently spoke to AOL's Noisecreep about the latest addition to the group lineup: singer Jasen Moreno. Moreno, who previously fronted fellow Texas band THE SUICIDE HOOK, is DROWNING POOL's fourth and newest frontman. Jasen replaces vocalist Ryan McCombs, who exited the group at the end of 2011 after a six-year stint in the lineup.

Asked how DROWNING POOL's chemistry has been affected by the singer changes over the years, Benton said: "Well, it's a forced form of band evolution, I would say, certainly not something you strive for and not something that I would advise other bands to do, because it's a lot of extra work and it's hard on you at times, but for us, we still had a such great time with Dave [Williams, DROWNING POOL's original singer] and such great vibes still remains and we've been trying to recapture that ever since then. It feels cheap to stick with a chemistry that just doesn't feel right and so maybe that's why we've had a lot of turnover. We knew if we switched singers again that a lot of people would look at it and make comments, but for us it seemed like it was worth it to take that shot at capturing the best chemistry we ever had. So we did. Look, sometimes you have to shift gears and I'm sure some of our ex-singers feel the same way: 'I can't wait to get the hell out of here.'"

He added: "One thing we have learned is that each singer has strong points and weak points and we've learned to craft the sound of the band that will benefit the singer at the time. It can be tricky at times to learn the nuances of it, but this time around, one fortunate thing is Jasen, our new singer, is a Dallas guy, we've know him for years and so it's not like having a stranger coming in. We had a great idea about him though, who he is and what he is about, and so we've been able to hit the ground running."

Moreno made his live debut as a member of DROWNING POOL on July 8 at a club in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

DROWNING POOL's video for the song "Saturday Night" was directed by Jon Bertorelli and produced by Daniel Livschultz, both of Vulpine Films.

downloaded it, I don't mind it. Doesn't make me think "Drowning Pool" when I hear it though...

So are we not going to discuss the ridiculous song title? I feel like there are dozens of tasteless jokes yet to be made. Is the Blabbermouth "community" slipping in its old age?

Great song, love it. I ll admit, at first i was a little sceptical about the new singer but the two songs they ve done so far were quite promising in my opinion. Jasen has a really powerful voice but the best thing about the band is their guitarist CJ pierce, who s been able to adopt different styles of songwriting to suit all the vocalists. By the way, i love the riff that kicks in right before the solo.

this is terrible. Firstly, we have really lifeless riff, with an overly distorted tone and gimmicky studio tricks/production used to try and compensate for it. Secondly, these lyrics are just terrible. "I've got news for you", "I payed my dues", "You run your mouth, yeah, I shut you up", "I'm a hardcore son of a bitch"... All of these lyrics are just ludicrous; they've either been used one hundred times over in other rock/metal songs, or they're just cheesy as hell (often both). "I'll claw my way out of any situation,[...] I'll fight my way out of any confrontation" also sounds clumsily delivered; it just doesn't sit well with the groove of the song, if you as me. And also, why oh why must we have another song with this tired old subject matter. I am so bloody sick of songs about fighting, and overcoming adversity by fighting, and fighting against all odds, and being such a badass, tough, 'Murikan fightin' man. Honestly, as far as lyrical content goes, this subject never made for very inspired, intelligent songs in the first place, and now it's just grown hopelessly stale. Any band that offers up trash like this in the modern era of rock and metal simply should not be making music. At all.
