CATHEDRAL: 'The Last Spire' Album Details Revealed - Dec. 18, 2012
British doom legends CATHEDRAL are putting the finishing touches on what will be their last-ever album. Produced by Lee Dorrian and Garry Jennings, with assistance from Jaime Gomez Arellano, "The Last Spire" is scheduled for an April 2013 release via Rise Above Records.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Entrance To Hell
02. Pallbearer
03. Cathedral Of The Damned
04. Tower Of Silence
05. Infestation Of Grey Death
06. An Observation
07. This Body, Thy Tomb

Non-album track "Vengeance Of The Blind Dead will appear as a flexi disc on the front cover of Decibel magazine in their March issue (on sale February 7). The band also recently shot a promotional video for the track "Tower Of Silence", which will be available to view some time in January. A photo from the shoot can be seen below. The song will appear on an exclusive Rise Above Records CD sampler to be given away with Classic Rock magazine towards the end of the same month.

In related news, SEPTIC TANK, a band featuring CATHEDRAL members Scott Carlson, Garry Jennings and Lee Dorrian, will make its live debut at The Garage, Highbury & Islington on Friday, May 3. They will be openning for Carlson's legendary institution of grind, REPULSION, which will be performing its first U.K. headlining show. Special guests are NECROPHAGIA.

SEPTIC TANK will release a very limited vinyl-only EP titled "The Slaughter" via Japan's MCR Records to coincide with the show. They will have a limited number of colour copies on sale exclusively at the event.

"The Slaughter" track listing:

Side A

01. Fatal Eclipse
02. Forest of Bones

Side B

01. Gotesque Cavalry of Mankind
02. The Slaughter

Influences for SEPTIC TANK range from CRUCIFIX to SEIGE to SLAUGHTER (Canada).

A bittersweet moment. Can't wait for the album, but Cathedral will be sorely missed.

Can't wait to hear this. 7 tracks I can stomach. Hope its all killer and no filler. Guessing Game had too much music, most of it was kinda lackluster but still decent.

...hoping this one is more straight-forward doom. BUt yes, this will be bittersweet. Sadly, never got to see these guys live, I would love for them to come to the US for a final farewell tour, but not holding my breath.

At least we won't be seeing Lee prance around like in the "Mathew Hopkins" vid no more.

Let me understand. They quit because they don't like their name and their drummer?

It's a shame they quit but I guess they feel like they took the band's concept to its limit. I am glad to do that if they feel it,s over. So many bands just keeps releasing mediocre albums just to keep on touring under their 'popular name'. It takes guts to end a successful band and I praise them for that!

It's still weird to see 3/4 of the old line-up in a band. Is there something wrong with the drummer? I guess he's not into the heavy direction they head into.

Here's to hoping it's mostly super slow-ass DOOOOOOOm in the vein of 'Forest' or 'In Memoriam'...

I personally always preferred that to their more groovy, disco-like material.

Take a listen to Garden of Unhealthy Delights and tell me in the face this isn't dark. It's not ultra slow mourning like Forest, but it's as sinister and bitter as it gets and way more pissed off than Forest.

ending the band due to the current drummer (granted he's been a member for a long time) but... they've had several. However I do support the decision if Lee & Garry just decided it was time... the new band could also be called Cathedral but maybe they're just moving into a new realm musically.

Cathedral has never disappointed me. This is sad to see them hang it up but like someone said it's better than outliving their own relevance and putting out rubbish to pay the bills.

I'll sure keep an eye on whatever they decide to do next.

I've seen them live, for about 11 minutes. They started playing earlier than their scheduled time or something, so I missed the start and middle of their set. I was devastated. All I could do was drink beer after beer all day after that.

This last album was supposed to be released some time this year. I'd like to see them go out with one final classic pure Doom album, one album to rule them all. I always thought 'Forest...' and 'Endtyme' were their best albums.

Hail!

... It's a solid opus!

Can't believe they're calling it quits, without a US tour.
