Guitarist BEN ORUM Quits ALL SHALL PERISH - Dec. 12, 2012
Guitarist Ben Orum has left Oakland, California-based extreme metallers ALL SHALL PERISH. He says in a statement, "I have given over 10 years of my blood, sweat, and tears to pursuing my dream which you all have helped fulfill. Being in ALL SHALL PERISH has been the best experience in my life, outside of being a father.

"While I am deeply saddened by my decision to leave the band it is necessary at this point in my life. As you know, I have a family and obligation to provide for them and be here. Unfortunately, I could not fulfill my duty as a touring musician any longer.

"While I am done with touring, I will never stop writing music. I am joining the extreme metal band OBLIVION as a bassist and contributing songwriter. OBLIVION's debut album will be released on January 1st, 2013. We are beyond excited to unleash it onto the metal world. I've always been into death metal and extreme music, this is my return to true death metal.

"To read more about OBLIVION, including my long history with founder/singer/composer Nick Vasallo, and to pre-order our debut CD, [go to this location].

"I would like to thank all of the fans for the love and support over the last 10 years. I would also like to give a big THANK YOU to Gerardo and Nuclear Blast Records for always believing in my music.

The remaining members of ALL SHALL PERISH state: "We wish the best to Ben and his beautiful family as he moves on to a new chapter in his life. Taking his place on rhythm guitar for the IN FLAMES tour will be Rob Maramonte from Bay Area band FALLUJAH."

ALL SHALL PERISH's fourth full-length album, "This Is Where It Ends", sold around 8,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 50 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "Awaken The Dreamers", opened with 5,000 copies back in 2008 to land at No. 126.

"This Is Where It Ends" was released in July 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The majority of the effort was recorded and mixed once again at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland with producer Zack Ohren (LIGHT THIS CITY, DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION).

Leaving a pretty steady band to play bass in a band you just started, probably not a good decision. But saying he wants to spend more time with his family and support them is extremely honorable.

Always put family before hanging out with a bunch of sweaty farting dudes in a van for 23 hours a day, 360 days a year.

*says he's leaving for family reasons*
*joins another band right after*
I respect his leaving for his family but if he's joining another band it's kinda scummy. ASP is slowly dying out, he was one of the early members, and made TPoE a great album, now the only guys that have been around for a few albums are the lead singer and bassist. Somehow I feel like I'm not gonna rlly get into the next album unlike TPoE, still their best album.

His new band might put out albums, but probably won't tour, or won't tour for extended periods of time. It's probably gonna be a weekend hobby for him, and he'll work a regular full time job.

music vs family for some people is still an incredibly hard decision, its kinda not fittingto say things like, at least that his family has priority.... it's more of a good and a sad thing at the same time if you ask me... personally I hope he'll rejoin soon, when he's ready again for it at least... has to be kinda crappy for the bassist in this band to be left behind as the only original member though... keep hangin on there MR KING KOBRA!!

I didn't find their last album interesting in the least bit, and I don't expect they'll be able to turn that around with the line-up changes they've experienced in the last few years.

.....think he disapproved of their (ASP's) musical direction. If you read his post about Oblivion carefully, he mentions returning to TRUE death metal.
