PAUL MCCARTNEY To Perform With Surviving NIRVANA Members At 121212 Sandy Relief Concert? - Dec. 12, 2012
THE BEATLES legend Paul McCartney is rumored to be joinng the surviving members of NIRVANA onstage tonight (Wednesday, December 12) at a benefit concert in New York City for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

According to The Sun, McCartney will perform with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic at the 121212 event, which will also feature appearances by THE ROLLING STONES, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, BON JOVI, GREEN DAY, KANYE WEST and THE WHO. The report claims McCartney called Grohl who asked him to come and "jam with some mates" and then found himself playing with Grohl on drums, Novoselic on bass and Pat Smear on guitar. The report then quotes McCartney as saying: "I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said 'Whoa? You guys haven't played together for all that time?' And somebody whispered to me, 'That's NIRVANA. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it."

Please don't do it. A Nirvana reunion without Kurt Cobain is like a Mr. Bungle reunion without Mike Patton or a Sublime reunion without Brad Nowell.

OK, all this "no X = no Y" stuff is getting out of hand. First off, Nirvana was a 3-piece (before Pat briefly joined), so if Dave and Krist jam together then that basically constitutes a "Nirvana reunion without Kurt". I guess those two better steer clear of each other for fear of offending the old Nirvana purists out there.
Second, since Dave and Pat are currently in the same band, we have half of Nirvana together, with no Kurt! Blashphemy!! Add to this, that Krist jammed with them on their last album, so wow, this is too much to take at this point.

He knows who Grohl and Foo Fighters are, he didn't know Pat Smears and Novoselic. Should he know them by sight?

If he called Grohl, obviously he knows of him...and I don't think they're plugging it as a Nirvana reunion. Though the guys in Thin Lizzy had the nerve recently.

...seriously, just FUCK OFF, Paul.

The Stones were always better, in any case. AND they still sound great live. And they just put out a couple of new tunes that kick ass.

When was the last time McCartney put out anything worth a damn....?

Oh that's right, it was with Wings. In the 1970's.

George Harrison was the true badass in the Beatles. He is missed.

when has the STones put out anything worth a damn. (and I love the Stones) or 99% of the 60's artists. Jimmy Page, etc. They had their day. I think his contributions in the Beatles alone are fine enough...the well runs dry for all of them.

agree on Harrison.

I thought it sounded interesting, seeing the big Beatles fan Kurt was. He would be freaking if he could see this! I don't see it as a Nirvana reunion at all. Also comparing the Beatles to the Stones is a dumb argument. It's like comparing Nirvana to Pearl Jam(I don't like Pearl Jam though!).The Beatles and The Stones are after all "The big 2" The Beatles singing and song crafting was superior to The Stones, but the Stones have some great deliciously evil sounding songs that I love too. PM's voice is still pretty much the same as it always was, although he hasn't released anything decent for quite a while. Don't disrespect The Beatles or The Stones!

...none other than fuckin' LEMMY said that the Stones were all art-school posers and the Beatles truly grew up in the rough end of town. The Beatles were the real "bad boys". Yeah, their image became planned and processed with the matching suits and all, but that era was only a speck compared to what came before and after.

I mean, the Stones are cool, too, but this "I'm too cool to like the Beatles" crap is stupid.

even if they aren't your cup of tea, they wrote one classic album after another. Where's the overrated come in? Never before or after has a band been so ambitious, creative, changing, and prolific. My only slight criticism of the Beatles is they stopped playing live, and didn't have the more modern killer show. (ala Led Zep etc).

Nirvana gets a bad rap today, always getting shit on, on the other hand, they don't deserve their "revolutionary" status. But Nevermind, while overplayed, is stellar.

Who else can you think of who knows and works with Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones on an occasional basis?

I bet Kurt Cobain is smiling at the idea of this gig. I highly doubt he's upset that Paul McCartney is playing a little something with his former bandmates. Considering how much The Beatles influenced Kurt's writing, it's even sweeter.

Damn: Dave knows the Zeppelin guys, Paul McCartney...

Good for him, man. At least Dave Grohl is a cool guy and an equally awesome musician. Sounds cool. Rock on!

I grew up on The Beatles thanks to my old man. Personally I think their songwriting is phenomenal. Don't get me wrong, they had a shit load of really questionable material but songs like Eleanor Rugby, Across the Universe and A Day in the Life are stellar.

Paul as Kurt Cobain? Uh, not so sure about that. Think Eddie Vedder or Lane Stanley (RIP) would have been more appropriate.

Paul is great, you can't really expect him to know how Krist looks 20 years later, can you? What do you think he does on his sparetime, checking out latest rock news on Blabbermouth?

He obviously knew abot Nirvana, and how special it was to play with them, right?

He is a genius songwriter, still is. Listen to My valentine on the latest jazz/pop release. Check out the minor/major chordchanges. Genious.

I like Nirvana a bit, but they weren't 'legendary'. Just a good punk influenced, pop rock band.

Foo Fighters are boring, although, some stuff with Pat Smear was OK.

Beatles influenced SUPERGRASS, which I like as well. Never thought any member of that band was great, except for George Harrison, who wrote a couple of good tunes and loved Indian culture. Speaking of which, RIP to MR. RAVI SHANKAR

Can't give a fuck about them playing together!
