RUSH Headed Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME: Video Footage Of Yesterday's Announcement - Dec. 12, 2012
RUSH, HEART, Donna Summer, Randy Newman, blues legend Albert King, and rappers PUBLIC ENEMY are the 2013 inductees to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea announced the inductees yesterday (December 11) at L.A.'s Nokia Theater, which is where where the induction ceremony will be held on April 18. A truncated version of the evening's events will air on HBO on May 18. Producer/arranger and L.A. music scene powerhouse Lou Adler along with Quincy Jones will receive the prestigious Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Video footage of yesterday's announcement can be seen below.

Geddy Lee told Rolling Stone that he's happy that the fans that have wanted the honor for RUSH have finally achieved their goal. "It's a terrific honor and we'll show up smiling," he said. "It made my mom happy, so that's worth it. . . It was a cause they championed. I'm very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure."

Among the band's that were shortlisted but failed to snag enough votes for induction were DEEP PURPLE, PROCOL HARUM, JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS, THE MARVELETTES, PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND, THE METERS, CHIC, KRAFTWERK and N.W.A.

Lee told The Pulse Of Radio that having a legion of fans following you is still a pretty heady experience. "It's a tremendous compliment to be told that you've inspired someone or influenced someone musically, or in any aspect of life — and beyond that, y'know, you really don't know what to say," he said. "Y'know, it's a nice thing, and it makes you feel like whatever you're doing has a little more validity, I guess."

Heart and Rush, hell yeah!

Donna Summer and Randy Newman? Who's next year, Air Supply and Michael Bolton?

Public Enemy...you know, paving da way for Eminem and 50 cent.

if Michael Bolton were friends with Jan Wenner, he'd be in. See Blondie. Or Patty Smith. talking Heads. all rub elbows with Wenner and crew. Even if you were a fan of these bands(I'm not), they are ok at best. The Hall of the Pretty good. BLondie I guess has a decent Greatest Hits package at best. HOF?...its should be the greatest of the greats. Even Heart would on the cusp(and I respect their early stuff).

you'll see Bon Jovi in, he is also a friend of Wenner. While his band isn't NY CBGB's hip like the Talking Heads(yawn), his wallet has helped him be influential w/that crew...shouldn't they be playings some shed as an 80's package with Warrant and Poison? I think so.

Why is Nancy Wilson thanking that douche Jann Wenner? Its because of assholes like him that Heart (and others) has not being inducted before now. I'm happy for RUSH, but the Hall of Shame is still full of shit.

Rush is great. The Pop Hall of Fame is not. It has nothing to do with Rock and or Roll, it is POP related, therefore a misnomer. We are only paying homage to it by paying any attention to all of these stories about it. Moving on...

Maybe it is just me, but the news conference representing the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame looked like a stiff, corporate America boardroom presentation. Such a stark contrast from the artists that the hall of fame is supposed to represent. I have a difficult time seeing Joel Peresman in his sweater and shirt with collar at a concert of the likes of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, or Rush. Same goes for Tim Leiweke in the suit. Kurt Cobain would be laughing his ass off. David Grohl as well.

Congrats to Rush and Heart. I'm a big fan of Rush, and M2 and M3 Purple. If there is justice, then Purple gets in next year. After watching the sweater and the suit, I could really care even less about the R&R Hall of Fame. Rush, Purple, UFO, Maiden, Priest, KISS, etc. don't need their acceptance as validation of their careers, and neither do I.

Just a final thought. Who ever is running the "Hall of Fame" and their PR people should avoid this type of announcement in the future. This is so static, and stale and the backdrop is terrible. How about making the announcement in the "Hall of Fame" itself with instruments and displays as a backdrop. Have a screen with video and music in the background of each artist at they are being announced. Make the announcement about the music and artists, instead of the HofF as an organization. It shouldn't be over the top, but make it have some dynamic to it rather than a stale announcement in front of a podium. Make it a little bit of a celebration of the artist and the art. Instead, we get a glimps into the people and style of the people running the HofF.

Rush and Heart. I'm going to be very interested in who Heart (Wilson sisters) invite to be on the podium. Purple and Kiss next year.

Arandy Newman, what tha hexk has he done? At least all other inductees have some music history... I am dissappointed Rush could care for this. Even filming last show in Cleveland sounded a bit questionable...

If Donna Summer hadn't died she wouldn't have made it, and Deep Purple would've been in. Noooooo!! Rush is one of my top 10 favorite bands, but if anyone should be in it's DP. They helped created heavy metal as we know it.
