POISON singer
Bret Michaels has released a statement regarding the passing of Mexican-American singer
Jenni Rivera, who died early Sunday when the small plane she was traveling in with at least five others crashed in the mountains of northern Mexico.
Said
Bret: "I am deeply saddened hearing the news of the crash of
Jenni Rivera's plane. Not only did the crash claim the life of
Ms. Rivera but that of four other people, including
Jacob Yebale, who was a great friend to all of us at
Michaels Entertainment, having worked with me,
VH1 and
51 Minds on numerous shoots. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family as well as
Ms. Rivera's and the other families who lost loved ones in this awful and sudden tragedy."
Rivera, 43, was born in Long Beach, California, to Mexican immigrant parents and has sold sold 15 million records, according to
Billboard. She was nominated for
Latin Grammy Awards in 2002, 2008 and 2011.
