DEEP PURPLE: New Songtitles Revealed - Dec. 8, 2012
According to Classic Rock magazine, British hard rock legends DEEP PURPLE will release their 19th studio album in April 2013. The CD, which was produced by Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS) in Nashville, Tennessee, will contain 13 tracks, including "Out Of Hand", "Hell To Pay", "Weirdistan", "Uncommon Man" and "Above And Beyond". The latter song references the band's late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric "Souls having touched are forever entwined."

Regarding the album title, Gillan offered the following cryptic comment to Classic Rock: "There's a big question mark over the name at the moment. And possibly an exclamation mark as well. You can read what you like into what I've just said. All will become clear — as mud — later on. That's all I'm allowed to say. The question mark and the exclamation mark might get you intrigued."

DEEP PURPLE's 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", was released in November 2005. It was the fourth studio CD from DEEP PURPLE since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey.

"Rapture of the Deep" was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band's previous release, 2003's "Bananas".

Glad to see these guys are still making new music. Rapture of the Deep was ok, but I did really like the other three Deep Purple albums with Morse. They are certainly a different band without Blackmore, but still make some great records.

I realize that Deep Purple have released many, MANY albums without Blackmore, but I have no interest in the band without him.

I get that, but even some of the Tommy Bolin-era and Steve Morse-era Purple is worth listening to and mentioning. Tommy Bolin was a mofo. It's sad that he died so young on account of heroin. Gifted guitarist.

They're really excited/puzzled about the new album title? It must be another purple pun.

Should be a good album.

Nearly eight years since the last studio release has been torturous. This new, 19 th studio opus is anticipated to be cracking good. I found the last release to be extremely entertaining and a welcome return to form, after the shoddy Bananas release in 2003. Yes, I concur, there is no substitute for Blackmore. However, Moore has proved himself an accomplished guitarist, that has kept Deep Purple fresh sounding and current, yet not loosing their stalwart band identity. At least give it a try when it drops next year, their latest release.....I certainly will be a first day buyer.

The problem isn`t Morse guitarplaying, because he`s just as good as Blackmore, but the real issue is songwriting. Look at the songs Purple released with Blackmore, look at what he did with Rainbow. The only previous members who could`ve solved this problem is Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale (Stormbringer, Burn and Come taste the band). They recorded some classic albums with Purple, but I don`t think Gillan/Glover are too found of those albums). Anyway, I love Glover and Gillan IN Purple, but I also loved the things Hughes and Coverdale did. Looking back at who`s been in Purple you realize what a great band it has been and still is. Any band who would lose Gillan and Glover would be over, then Blackmore went out the door and later on Lord. Gillan and Glover came back, but still.

love this band, but can't say I've been all that fond of the last few studio efforts. I'll still check it out when the album leaks. Judas Priest on the other hand... I'm quite stoked about. Gonna buy a super deluxe edition of the next album and hopefully catch them on this never ending farewell tour somehow

Mk Morse albums has been as good as Mk Blackmore since the reunion in 1984, in my opinion. Perfect strangers, Purpendicular, Rapture of the deep have been great. Bananas and House of the blue light ok. Abandon, Slaves and masters, Battle rages on... not that good.

The biggest problem is Gillans voice nowadays. Not much of a hard rock voice left. Sounds much better when he sings his softer style, like the One eye to Marocco-album.

Best Deep Purple tribute band there is !!!!

While Morse and Airey are fantastic musicians - they can not replace the MAGIC of Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord. And yes - Ian Gillan's voice has changed - therefore the band is nowhere close to their Machine Head and Perfect Strangers days.

I'll buy the new album and expect it to be good in it's own accord.

DP is one of the most criminally underrated bands in rock. I don't know a single musician who doesnt have massive respect for these guys. We would all prefer Blackmore but Ritchie's not into it anymore and Morse does a great job. I'd rather have this lineup of DP than no DP at all.
