DOWN Guitarist Interviewed In Milan (Video) - Dec. 8, 2012
Italian web site SpazioRock conducted an interview with DOWN guitarist Kirk Windstein before the band's October 29 concert in Milan, Italy. You can now watch the chat below.

DOWN's new EP, "Down IV Part I - The Purple EP", sold 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Down IV Part I - The Purple EP", DOWN's first in a series of four EPs to be released over the next few years (with a year between EPs), each touching on a different aspect of the band's sound, came out on September 18. It will be followed by the second collection of songs early next year, around the time of a planned U.S. tour. EPs three and four are scheduled for later in 2013.

"Down IV Part I - The Purple EP" heralds the sound of DOWN going back to its roots, with influences from BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS and WITCHFINDER GENERAL.

Lyrically, the EP goes beyond just personal experiences, and explores themes that include the faith of mankind, the imperfection of mankind and cultural belief systems.

"DOWN gives me the platform to be poetic and paint imagery with lyrics," said vocalist Philip Anselmo. "That's the approach I took. They complement the music and create an ominous feeling. Ultimately, when people consume the words, it's always their interpretation that matters. I could be image-conscious though when I wrote. It's not so gut level or street. The darker shit is some of my favorite."

I'm a huge Down fan, and I am really hoping Phil can pull it together. The footage from this whole tour has been disappointing vocally. The Phil I saw in 2008 blew me away, I mean seeing that show was mind blowing. It was like their set at the Download Festival that year. Check it out on Youtube. For my money Phil has never been better. Now he sounds like he's been eating gravel for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

EP is still great, and at least he can do it in the studio. I'll take it for now.

Am i the only one that doesn't like this EP? It's terribly boring and to me it doesn't sound at all like Down. Down is truly epitomized by NOLA and i will bet in that time frame Phil wasn't in charge of arranging everything and telling everyone what their parts should be. I can guarantee that Pantera wasn't the success it was solely because of Philip H Anselmo. Pepper is one creative mother fucker and i would far prefer see him back in COC than in one of Phil's "side bands" that he can't focus on. Not trying to crack down on Phil, but all this new material is terribly wishy washy. None of it feels dangerous anymore.

The real mystery in Rock is what happened to CoC, why isn't Pepper involved with them anymore. Everyone else in Down are still putting out material with there main band. Kirk released new Crowbar and Kingdom of Sorrow and Jimmy put out new eyehategod and Philip has a new solo album about to be released. PJK has a great voice and awesome guitar style. What a waste of talent. Down jumped the shark after A Bustle in your Hedgerow.
