JASON NEWSTED Uploads More Rehearsal Footage - Dec. 5, 2012
Former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted has uploaded new video footage of a rehearsal session at his Chophouse studio in Walnut Creek, California. Check it out at this location.

In a recent interview with Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM, Newsted stated about his plans to release original music via his newly launched official web site, NewstedHeavyMetal.com, "It'll be called Newsted Heavy Metal Music. Whatever it ends up being — if it's five songs, 20 songs, 50 songs… I don't even know what the heck I'm gonna do. I have so much music from over the years. I have a bunch of new stuff, I have so many mixes of projects with people — new players, young players, old-school players like myself — so I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I wanna unleash on everybody first. That's kind of what it's coming down to — the timing of things and how I wanna hit people with it, and which stuff [to release first]."

Asked how he plans to release his music, Jason said, "I see a couple of the old avenues still being there that will always be there in the purest form — making the vinyl and everybody having the special-edition vinyl to be able to read the lyrics, stuff like you and I loved the most, that's the closest to us that's the most endearing and the most personal. So that's always gonna be there and I never wanna dismiss that, so that will be percentage of it for the fans that really dig the real American kick-ass guitar music … And then the newest avenues that I'm just really now learning about as I expose myself to all this stuff… I saw a piece of one of ['That Metal Show' espisodes on VH1 Classic] and somebody talked about DOWN and some other bands doing four tracks at a time in EP form every few months, letting people have some fresh metal. I think that's a pretty good concept, a pretty good formula — I'm hip to that, [and] I'd like to warm up to that. Since it is new territory for me, I'm really open to that idea; I think it's a good way to spread stuff."

Newsted married his longtime girlfriend Nicole Leigh Smith in October.

In his acceptance speech at METALLICA's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in April 2009, Jason thanked Nicole — whom he referred to as "the love of my life" — for "standing by me through the last seven years of challenges and adventures."

This video is way better than the other Papa Wheelie ones. It'd be cool if some of the music he plans on releasing is in the same vein as IR8 and Sexoturica.

I know why he didn't get credits in Metallica, because his music is just not good enough. I mean I respect his passion, and the goal he is trying to reach in terms of his view of real metal and the image of it. But these riffs don't do it for me. Maybe the realsed versions will do.

I met him back in 1998 at Club's meet-n-greet, and he was too tense, not very pleasant, and with this constant will of being more respected than he was. Unlike James, just 5 mins later, he was super great, kind, and open, and it made my day, not Jason did that. And at the gig, being at the 2nd row of amphitheater, I didnt make any eye or any cool contact with Jason, while I did plenty with James and even Lars. James gave his wristband afterwards, and Lars gave me his drumstick. Not just by accident for sure.

Good that Jason got married, I hope he's more loosened up now. And hopefully with kids coming around (even though he said he chose to have "these things"), he will be even more relaxed.

- Jason should start a new thrash band with Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) and Jeff Waters (Annihilator).

- Hopefully, he'll be able to rejoin Flotsam and Jetsam in the not too distant future.

- Both Jason and Dave Mustaine should rejoin Metallica.

Am I the only one who finds this a little bit embarrassing? Heavy Metal was alive and well before Newstead decided to become the saviour!! Fucking bass players always trying to be something more than what they are.....

Nice fellow. Worst career move possibly ever. But good luck to him in everything he does.

I have never met Jason, but am a fan of his Bass playing. Also, a fan of the two songs he wrote for Flotsam and Jetsam on No Place For Disgrace.

Doomsday For The Deceiver is a solid Heavy Metal album. Also, Flotsam thanks Armored Saint on Doomsday which makes me like the album even more.

Hammerhead, and Iron Tears are awesome.

A lot of people bash Newsted for leaving Metallica, saying it was a bad career move. He was with them for 15 years, and unhappy with the direction the band was going in. Also, being in a huge band like Metallica is not easy. Being the replacement for an amazing Bassist like Cliff Burton was definitely challenging.

I cannot stand Load, or St. Anger. Re Load has a couple of listenable songs on it. Load has one to three listenable songs on it. Garage Inc. was a good idea. Reissue of Garage Days Re-revisited, and some diverse cover songs. Love the cover of "Astronomy." Even "Turn The Page" is good. My favorite two covers were the Discharge songs, "Free Speech For The Dumb," and "The More I See."

I liked some of the music Newsted did with Voivod. I am more into Negatron, and Phobos era Voivod. Nothingface, Dimension Hatross are good. I thought it was interesting to see Newsted collaborate with Voivod. Just not too into the album he appeared on.

Did not like Echobrain.

I am happy Metallica got back on track with Death, and Beyond Magnetic. The music is heavier, and more musically focused. Hetfield's voice is a little shot, but you have to expect that with age.

I am happy to see Jason Newsted trying to get back to playing music. Even if it does not take off well, or he just forms a few side projects. He was a decent Bassist, and had a pretty good taste in music.

Also, he is a Sepultura head. They are my fourth favorite band. More Death Metal/Thrash bands should take cues from Beneath The Remains and Arise.

He should call all of his bands "Career Suicide"
