KISS: 'The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982' Promotional Video Available - Dec. 5, 2012
Rock legends KISS were the first signing to the late Neil Bogart's then-newly formed Casablanca label after he saw and recognized their talent and showmanship at their spectacular performance at a showcase concert at New York City's Le Tang's Ballet Studio in 1973, offering them a contract on the spot. Now, KISS celebrates their 40th anniversary in 2013 having broken box office records set by THE BEATLES and ELVIS PRESLEY, more than 28 U.S. gold albums, the most gold records for any American rock band, 40 million sales in the U.S. and a total exceeding 100 million worldwide.

In their early years, KISS released a total of 29 singles on seven-inch 45 RPM records for the Casablanca label. These were available for sale to the public, used for commercial radio airplay and to promote album sales. Many of these singles had entirely different mixes, edits and material that didn't appear on their vinyl albums. Now for the first time, these musical snapshots of KISS' formative years, which have never been available in a commemorative singles edition, entitled "The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982", on Mercury/Casablanca/UMe, is available in two box set configurations:

* 29 Seven-Inch Vinyl
* 29 CDs (available through all retail)

In typical KISS fashion, these are no ordinary boxes. The sets are housed in a beautiful die cut shadow box with a limited edition etched silver metal plate and ribbon pull magnetic closure custom KISS 45s box with 26 collectible picture sleeves from original single releases around the world, including Japan, Germany, Holland, Spain and Britain. The vinyl collection also features singles from all four solo albums in purple, blue, red and green vinyl with a mask picture sleeve representing each individual member as originally released in the U.K. Both sets include a booklet which tracks the genesis and chart history of each single represented in the package.

"The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982" covers KISS' remarkable eight-year stay on Bogart's label, from their very first, "Nothin' to Lose" b/w "Love Theme from KISS", from their self-titled debut to their very first charted 45, "Kissin' Time". The band's subsequent string of hits included "Dressed to Kill"'s live version of "Rock and Roll All Nite" (#12 on Billboard's Hot 100), "Destroyer"'s "Shout It Out Loud" (#31) and the Top 10 ballad "Beth", "Rock And Roll Over"'s "Hard Luck Woman" (#15) and "Calling Dr. Love" (#16), "Love Gun"'s "Christeen Sixteen" (#25), Ace Frehley's solo hit, "New York Groove" (#13) and "Dynasty"'s "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (#11).

"Even I haven't heard some of this stuff, but this is all part of our master plan to celebrate KISS at this milestone in our careers," says Gene Simmons. "This box set represents us at the very beginning of our career, and documents the band's early success and subsequent growth."

Adds Paul Stanley: "This collection is meant for the true KISS aficionado. The packaging really captures the development of both our music and image at a very crucial period in the band's history."

The special set comes out a month after the release of "Monster", their 20th studio album. Showing the band at the top of its game, "Monster" embodies all that is KISS and the music that first inspired them to pick up their guitars and flame-throwers and don makeup to entertain millions. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, with longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer, return stronger than ever with their new album to continue the legacy of the spectacular larger-than-life extravaganza, known as, KISS.

A two-minute promotional video for "The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982" can be seen below.

Heresy! Shouldn't the current, 'the should've been' "REAL" lineup re-record all of these singles? Why would Gene and Paul want to pay royalty's to the detestable Ace and Peter???

Yea , if that's the so called" way the band should have been all along ." Why not go back and re-record the singles. Because the record co. has something to say about that , and they know the true Kiss fans wouldn't buy it . I like it but I've put enough money in Paul And Genes hands , I'm done . About ready to start selling everthing off , while I can still get something for it !

Looks absolutely awesome! This would definitely be a cool collection to own, and possibly the first Kiss item in many years to be a true Kiss collectible.

But I'm not enough of a fan to spend that kind of cash - especially for songs that are available on their albums any way.

UMe, not KISS, owns the recordings, I'd bet. So, the company can release this set and not even consult the band. Of course, it seems like a cool collector's item, so Gene and Paul have both commented on the collection.

And the current lineup did record a bunch of old songs; those were released as a bonus disc with SONIC BOOM... but the real reason for those recordings is commercial--the band can license the new recordings for ads, TV, movies... and only the participating members (and any co-writers) would get royalties.

Fuck that. If you really want this set and, feel weird about 'illegally' downloading it - pay some crack head $10.00 to walk into a record shop (there has got to be a few left) and steal it for you.

Merry Christmas.

I think this is really cool. They need to reissue their back catalogue on vinyl.... I'd be more interested in that than these singles.

Yeah yeah! All other hardrock/metal bands with long careers! Doesn?t slag of original members (in your words) Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden e.t.c. comes to mind!
No other bands charge for meet and greet just Motorhead, Van Halen, Aerosmith e.t.c. and of course all other bands play and release music for free!

seance.blogg.se... what is your deal with bringing up other classic rock bands. there is NO MERIT to your stupid argument that other bands are doing this too, so it's ok for Kiss to. We're not talking or caring about other bands... this is our favorite band that is screwing their legacy. Are you the same fan that says "What about AC/DC hiring Brian Johnson... that's like Kiss having Singer and Thayer in Peter and Ace's makeup". NO IT ISN'T. It would be the same if AC/DC said... "ok, here's Bon Scott Guy - don't worry about him looking different, just call him Bon Scott Guy".

I get the vinyl for collectors, but is it really necessary to put the singles out on 29 CDs? You could easily put them on five discs and just include a booklet with all the cover art.

Don't buy this!! Gene said: "Unfortunately, greed once again rears its yapping head. I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!"

He now adds: "It really bothers me that these people would put this out at these prices especially in this day and age, when money is tight. There you go again labels, trying to squeeze out every last dime you can from our fans."

It's for the record company's benefit. Gene and Paul won't see a dime. Don't buy into this!!

ha ha!! Poached from the recent Lemmy boxed set article!!

Having broken box office records set by the Beatles and Elvis Presley... that old chestnut. This and the American gold record champions one as well, that's another good one. Couldn't break glass in 2012 and a gold record? In your dreams Simmons. And calling your shows 'Stadium' tours, really? ACDC, U2, Metallica, The Stones etc play stadium tours. KISS do not. KISS plays cruise ships....
For the first time in 40 years I won't go this tour, they have no class, they have no dignity, they ooze disrespect, they have no self-respect, they've destroyed their legacy, they're desperate, they personify 'quantity not quality', they are a rudderless ship captained by two ego-maniacs with two spineless, worthless cabin-boys scrubbing the deck.
My lasting memory will be Rock Im Park 2010 when the shitty lift failed during the intro and the useless auld twats had to waddle on from the sides. Made Spinal Tap look like The Rolling Stones. Loved it.
