METALLICA: 'Master Of Puppets' Performance Clip From 'Quebec Magnetic' DVD Available - Dec. 5, 2012
On December 10, METALLICA will release a live DVD called "Quebec Magnetic" through the band's newly launched Blackened Recordings label. The double DVD and single disc Blu-ray will be available for a price a "very METALLICA fan-friendly" price — suggested retail will be $15.98 for either format. Filmed by Wayne Isham during a two-night stand in October of 2009 in Quebec City, it will be METALLICA's first self-released project. "We just played two really phenomenal shows. They were outrageously great and the audience was great and we had a bunch of people filming it," METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett told Billboard.com. "We felt like we're really doing a disservice just sitting on this great live footage, so we decided to put it out."

"Quebec Magnetic" track listing:

01. That Was Just Your Life
02. The End Of The Line
03. The Four Horsemen
04. The Shortest Straw
05. One
06. Broken, Beat & Scarred
07. My Apocalypse
08. Sad But True
09. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
10. The Judas Kiss
11. The Day That Never Comes
12. Master Of Puppets
13. Battery
14. Nothing Else Matters
15. Enter Sandman
16. Killing Time
17. Whiplash
18. Seek & Destroy

Bonus songs:

19. For Whom The Bell Tolls
20. Holier Than Thou
21. Cyanide
22. Turn The Page
23. All Nightmare Long
24. Damage, Inc.
25. Breadfan
26. Phantom Lord

The "Master Of Puppets" performance clip from "Quebec Magnetic" can be seen below.

Wayne Isham, 54, is an American movie director who has directed music videos of many popular artists such as MÖTLEY CRÜE, SIMPLE PLAN, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, PANTERA, 'N SYNC, SHANIA TWAIN, GODSMACK, BRITNEY SPEARS, LEONA LEWIS, PINK FLOYD, SHERYL CROW, JOSS STONE, MADONNA, AVRIL LAVIGNE, DEF LEPPARD and BON JOVI, among others.

Previous METALLICA videos that were directed by Wayne Isham:

* "Enter Sandman"
* "Wherever I May Roam"
* "Sad But True"
* "Fuel"
* "No Leaf Clover"
* "Nothing Else Matters" (from "S&M")
* "I Disappear"
* "Frantic"
* "Broken, Beat And Scarred"

METALLICA announced on Friday (November 30) that it has taken ownership of all the band's master recordings and long-form videos under a provision of the band's 1994 joint venture agreement with the Warner Music Group. According to that provision — almost unheard of for acts signed to major label contracts — all the masters reverted back to the band as of Friday. Frontman James Hetfield said in a statement, "We would like to thank everyone at the Warner Music Group for 28 years of a fantastic relationship, particularly since 1994 where we truly felt we had partners in every aspect of our business in North America."

The band has also revealed that it is launching its own label, called Blackened Recordings, that will be the new home for all of their recordings and videos, as well as anything else that the band may come up with. All marketing and promotion will be handled by Blackened, with distribution through Rhino Entertainment in North America and the Universal Music Group internationally. Drummer Lars Ulrich said, "Forming Blackened Recordings is the ultimate in independence, giving us 100 percent control and putting us in the driver's seat of our own creative destiny."

Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that METALLICA was long past the point where the band needed a corporate record label to support it. "The great thing about being in a band like us is that we're in a position to bypass the record company," he said. "Basically record companies act like banks. And when you don't need the bank element of a record company, then you can kind of do it yourself."

METALLICA is also working on a 3D feature film for release next summer, as well as a new studio album that should surface in early 2014.

Waaayyyyy to much post-production on this one. Inaudible crowd, compressed guitar and drum sound, muffled bass...

Not a good 'live' sound whatsoever. And they are great live, even to this day. I wish they captured the sound properly a la Foro Sol DVD or even their appearance on the Woodstock '94 album.

Bummer, bro.

I'm a huge fan since the No Life Til Leather cassette days...seen them live a dozen times....you are right- past few years the songs do seemed rushed, too up tempo and James is singing too high all the time. They gotta slow down and get back that swagger...and grow a little hair back! But yes their live sound is too rushed...finally someone else says this! Thanks

Its great to hear the double bass drum kicks in this song, but i do wonder if they are real live tracks from the gig or if they are just studio recorded post-production editing gimmicks.
And judging by those two songs that they have made available online, this dvd really needs a warning sticker for people who have ADD and those who suffer from Epilepsy.

these armchair producers making comments about compression and guitar sounds. They probably couldn't find their way out of a studio control room if Scott Hull was on the other side of the door with a signed copy of Book Burner for them.

We all might not be engineers and producers but we have ears and eyes and we know what sounds good and looks good. Well some of us do.....lol

I'm not a video editor but I know that Steve Harris SHOULDN'T be editing video because he ruins Maiden videos with "million different shot a minute" frantic editing.

This video is close to the same.

I dug it when they encored with stuff like Am I Evil?, Whiplash then Seek And Destroy. What a 1-2-3 punch.

This is gonna be interesting to see how they run Blackened Recordings. They can do whatever they wanna, now. Right, wrong or indifferent, Metallica's always done it their way, and I still have a lot of natural respect for them for that. Years ago, during the 'Justice' tour, we met them behind the venue as they hung out and signed all sorts of stuff for so many people.. It was genuinely eye-opening to see them all just hanging out and mingling with everyone without pretense, listening to what people were saying, being one of us. You can just tell how good a bunch of guys they are, and it translates.

Good luck with the new album, guys. Rock on. Peace.

Why the fuck do they do this ADD editing. It sucks and is not enjoyable. The fucking director/editor wants to be the star of the DVD. Three static cams is all you need and her is an idea keep a shot for more than 2 seconds. I wont buy bullshit dvds. Their 1989 recording of the Justice tour is much much better than this bullshit.

Inspired performance from Lars on this one. My only complaints based on what I have seen thus far is: 1 - it would have sounded great had the crowd been recorded better. The "Master, master" bit does not come across well.

2 - once again - spastic editing is a motherfucker and, should be held in check. I have heard/ seen so many comments about this over the years. Rapid-fire editing takes away from the experience of watching the band playing.

I agree, the editing is nauseating. What happened to the 5-6 static cameras catching all the details and staying on a musician more than 5 seconds?

There has been a HUGE amount of post-production on this. Listen to the guitar tracks closely, James' guitar keeps playing even if he has his hands in the air. The drum parts are really suspicious. The compression is terrible and the crowd mix is beyond exaggerated. They can do whatever they want with it, I will not but this; stlll, they could try to make it as real as possible. Maybe its because the real thing isn't on par anymore...

This is so AWESOME! I was just thinking “Wow if only Metallica started their own record label they could write even worse songs then they already have”. …and my dream has come true! Now I can hear them play more out-of-tune on their records and listen to Lars play horrible recorded drums, Kirk Helmet play regurgitated slop while James tries to sing! I’m not going to mention the Bass player guy because I’m not sure what he does in the band, I think he is with SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs doing the crabwalk in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom.

I bet I just pissed off all the Metallica fans because of that… Sorry guys, I know there is an army of tone deaf Metallica fans out there and I do hope they find a cure for your hearing impairment someday.

Guys, I'm an engineer. From an engineering standpoint, yes, the drums, especially the snare, are totally overcompressed. As for the editing aspect of the drums, I've seen Metallica live many times and I've stood behind Lars' drums before and this isn't edited in the "he doesn't play triplets so let's make him sound great" sense. Lars does play the triplets but very soft and inconsistent. He hits the kicks so hard during single hits and then does double bass really soft. So they have to be sampled afterwards or else they'd be extremely inaudible and buried in the mix. But he does play them. This sampling technique where they place a re-recorded bass drums over a pre-existing live bass drum is very common, especially in metal. Andy Sneap does this a lot with drums but not to cover up inconsistent drummers as much as it is to get a great sounding kick drum without having to do extreme EQing.

With 30% light loss on 3D movies it will just feel like you're in the fucking dark but it'll be interesting to see no matter what.
