WENDY DIO Wants KORN And AVENGED SEVENFOLD For RONNIE JAMES DIO Tribute Album - Dec. 4, 2012
Wendy Dio, the widow and longtime manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, HEAVEN & HELL), has revealed more information about the upcoming Dio tribute album, which is due next year. The collection, which will be released via Niji Entertainment Group, the label that was created by Ronnie and Wendy, will tentatively include contributions from METALLICA, JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy Kilmister, DEEP PURPLE's Ian Gillan, Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), Sebastian Bach (SKID ROW) and Dave Grohl (NIRVANA, FOO FIGHTERS). The CD will reportedly see Grohl covering BLACK SABBATH's "The Mob Rules", Halford contributing a version of RAINBOW's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" and Hughes offering up his rendition of RAINBOW's "Catch The Rainbow".

Speaking to Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" at this past Saturday's (December 1) Icons & Idols-Rock 'N' Roll Auction at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, Wendy said, "We have a lot of [artists] who are working on [their contributions to the tribute album]. METALLICA has already finished theirs for us and ANTHRAX and Glenn Hughes [have completed theirs as well]. Rob Halford's working on it. I think Alice Cooper's working on it. MOTÖRHEAD, [in] January we'll get theirs. So we'll have a whole classic CD ready next year, and so I'm hoping to then ask the younger bands to do a tribute to Ronnie as well, so we can do two CDs: a classic one and the younger bands."

Asked if she had any younger bands in mind for the tribute album, Wendy said, "I haven't approached anyone, but who I would pick would definitely be KORN, AVENGED SEVENFOLD… Anyone that's been influenced by Ronnie or Ronnie's music, and I think it would be a great tribute and it would be great fun to do, too."

According to Wendy, she left it up to each artist to choose which song to cover and didn't get involved in the creative process. "They could pick anything from ELF, DIO, RAINBOW, SABBATH… whichever songs they wanted to do," she said. "With Ronnie and I, we worked together as a team; he always was the creative one and I was at the business side. I never interfered with his music and he never interfered with my business, and I think if you give the person the creativity, that's what they are — they create. Let them create which song they'd like to create."

Wendy also spoke to some of the tracks that have already been completed for the Dio tribute album, calling Glenn's version of "Catch The Rainbow" "amazing," saying that "it absolutely brought so many tears to my eyes." She also described ANTHRAX's rendition of "Neon Knights" as "fantastic," but remained mum on METALLICA's contribution, saying, "I'm not gonna tell you what that is. It's gonna be surprise. It's a medley, and it's gonna be a surprise."

Jonathan Davis has one of the best voices in the history of rock/metal. Diverse and amazing range.

You clearly don't know a good singer when you hear one, irrespective of their "style".

Didn't I read an article not to long ago about how this old hag just got remarried? Drop the last name DIO you gold digging bitch. You haven't been with ronnie in 15 to 20 years and you still keep his last name. Typical fucking dumb box with a slit that has never done anything herself, so you may as well keep sucking off the dead. Fuck this retarded babbling bitch

First and foremost, I have two Dio tribute albums that I regret purchasing, not because of the BANDS on them (which are actual METAL acts who were actually INSPIRED by Ronnie's music), but because the music just doesn't sound right with anybody else singing it.

So how to capitalize on that problem? Add a lot of "hot" and "trendy" non-inspired acts (who will no doubt fuck up the music by performing it THEIR way) and ta da! Another tribute album that's going to be glued to the store shelves.

Pass.

Too many whores like bach, otherwise. "Someone's doing a tribute album? For who? Manilow? I'm in!" -Bach

Sigh @ Lemmy...I take that back...I can hear Lemmy doing Last in LiNE

they could get the next american idol on it---as their ticket to the next big break
--
then do it country style "sing me a song youre a singer,,do me a wrong, youre a bringer of evil"---with like carrie underwood and ozzy as a guest appearance

then in the middle they get kanye to rap---about how he used to be last in line-all the time--but then he lost weight--and quit eating twinkies--and all yall kids can do it--

and then obama comes on--with like a whole bunch of city kids---and a string section--

whoa --oh oh oh----oh oh oh ---ohohoh===(heaven and hell gospel chorus)(scratching wikiwikiwkwikw) here we go now fellas

and then at the end---aretha franklin herself--
whoOOhohh HEEEEVVVIIN AND -------heeEeEyeeleeyelehheyehl

...why would she pick those bands?

I admit, Korn was decent back in the day (their first 2 or 3 albums), but I can't really see them doing Dio justice nowadays.

A7X I can kinda see, but they never really left that big of an impression on me.

So, again, why would she pick them?

Korn's guitarists are not skilled enough to cover the majority of Dio's past guitarists' lead work & Jonathan Davis doesn't have the range to sing Happy Birthday let anything that resembles Dio vocal work.

AX7 would make a little more sense in terms of technical prowess. I doubt the vocals would be all that though. Ugh.

Honestly though, and with respect to Dio, does this project really need to happen regardless of who they could/would get?

Asf's ride is probably over by now, with bvb taking on the music scene(ha ha), this woman intends to make a living out of the Dio legacy 'till the end. Without Dio around, I won't buy most of any new stuff.

Right, she remarried, shouldn't she be refered to as The manager fornerly known as Wendy Dio by now? Lame song for Halford, no Bruce.

Can't have it both ways, she says Dio didn't get involved in business side.
Because of her, the band had 1/2 dozen different drummers, bassists, keys, and most critical guitars. She sacrificed the creativity of this band over her business expectations; bad management as well, because Dio ended up selling fewer and fewer albums and tickets.

This woman is more like Sharon Jr, even the cancer issue now they have in common, but both are as greedy, so much that you will never see them join forces to fight the f'ing disease ( if they haven't already)...because they both want to be the ones to beat it and perhaps find the cure themselves (if possible)... So they can make a hefty profit out of it as well.

The question was "if she had any younger bands in mind?" the key word is younger meaning newer bands so she said Korn and Avenged Sevenfold she answered the question perfectly because it was focused on younger and newer bands she should definitely get bands like Iron Maiden,Judas Priest,Motorhead on board but come on guys she answered the question. Oh and remember this question was based around younger and newer bands....next time read the actual artical.
