RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Guitarist Says Bandmembers Can't Agree On Tour Plans - Dec. 4, 2012
In a brand new interview with RollingStone.com, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello spoke about the band's future plans following the deluxe-edition reissue of RATM's classic 1992 self-titled debut, which came out last week. "There's no plans, no current direction of anything," he said. "It was my great hope that we'd celebrate the 20th anniversary with a five-continent world tour. But short of that, this box set that celebrates the 20-year span of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is something that will hopefully be very satisfying for longtime RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE fans as well as turn on new fans to what the band is all about."

Asked why it is so difficult to stage a RAGE tour at this point, Tom said, "We'd have to agree to go on one. Once a year, the band meets and very seriously discusses and turns down awesome offers to tour the world. That's part of the program. I'm very grateful that we did agree to do is this box set, which we're very, very proud of. Some of those early videos, you know, we're playing these clubs for 25 people. I remember that period very, very well. I had been in a lot of bands before RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, bands that had tried hard to make it, and with that band, with RAGE, it just spontaneously combusted. It immediately connected with something in the reptilian brain of fans of rock, hip-hop, punk, metal, activists in a way that was global right off the bat."

On the topic of his relationship with his bandmates today, Tom said, "Oh, I mean, we communicate fairly regularly, and my relationship with those three guys is what it's been for some time. I love them. I consider them brothers and brothers-in-arms, and whether or not we ever play music again in any capacity is unknown. I'm grateful for the music we played together, and thank goodness the cameras were rolling at that first show at Cal State Northridge, and it's been very hard. For me, as a fan, not just as a member of the band, it's some of the most exciting stuff I've ever had the pleasure to hear, let alone to be a part of."

But not sure a new album would be great. Why tarnish a legacy with a possibly mediocre album?

Why are they turning down all these awesome offers to tour the world???

So they have a band meeting and decide not to record a new album or tour.

"Great band meeting guys! We got a lot accomplished." Really?

...very funny.
It does feel a little hypocritical that Zakk seems to be adverse to spread the message he feels so strongly about.

Is Zack a junkie or what ?

I've heard he's a junkie and I've also heard he's gay.

I don't have a problem with whatever his orientation is , I'm just trying to understand why he has been completely invisible in the Age Of Obama ?????

It would seem the last 4 years , and now the next 4 , would be the PERFECT time for Zack & Morello to be in the public eye, doing everything they can to promote their fucked up worldview and influence as many young people as possible to become Communists......

I'm just saying.

It makes no sense at all for Rage Against The Machine to be M.I.A. during the Reign Of Obama.....

I understood them lying low during the GWB #43 War On Terror , but it shocks me they haven't made a HUGE comeback in the past 4 years , now they have no plans to use their Rock & Roll as a force of cultural revolution ?

Then what the fuck did they even start the band for ? Was it all just a marketing pose from the very beginning ?

Not that I give a fuck......

I'm not sure what Zack's issues are.

There is no doubt Zack is the one holding this all up.

They're probably all in shock that a guy who shares their radical views got into office and took control of our country.

Maybe they'll start to get pissed again once they see how much their boy Obama takes from their box set royalties.

they are going to start pulling all the same moves as axl and company. They will elude to an album, shelve it, announce a tour, cancel 1/3 of the dates. Repeat this cycle for a few more years until they are forced to release something. That's exactly what's happened the last 5 years. Cochella, lolla, big day out, and rock the bells with some other random appearances/rumors thereof before this box set. They are just putting it off so they can REALLY over-hype it in 5 years.

"There's no plans, no current direction of anything"..."be very satisfying for longtime RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE fans as well as turn on new fans to what the band is all about".
Yea, very satisfying for fans since the 90's to hear pretty much the same stuff? And what kind of message does this send to new fans? "Hey, get into us through an already released old album, but don't think we're gonna support it w/ a tour or even a new album!" If you guys are brothers, then get the fuck together.

I'm starting to take ratm less and less seriously, release an old album using your big band name but not do shit for the fans, it's obvious your using your bands name just for the money. I have an idea, since it's all about the name you should put slipknot and ratm on the same album cover, and BAM, it'll sell millions just cause it has big band names on it and you guys both rap, which is the same as what you guys are doing now, rake in the money on a name, it's just one more name, wait, don't take that, THAT'S MY FUCKING IDEA!!!!

If you miss RAGE, pick up Zach's early band INSIDE OUT or the One Day As A Lion cd. Great stuff! Better than what the rest of the band did with Audioslave, that's for sure.

many people say they are fans but crap all over them for not coming out with anything new. Maybe they don't want to come out with anything new just to appease the appetites of the fast food mentality and consumption of people today.
What has releasing new material for Soundgarden or Metallica really done for them but take the shine off of their best work.
