OZZY OSBOURNE Spends 64th Birthday Recording Vocals For New BLACK SABBATH Album - Dec. 4, 2012
Ozzy Osbourne spent part of his 64th birthday yesterday (Monday, December 3) recording vocals on the new BLACK SABBATH album at a Los Angeles studio.

A photo of Osbourne in the studio laying down tracks on the CD can be seen below.

As previously reported, BLACK SABBATH took part in a photo shoot on Friday (November 30) with famed British photographer/artist Sam Taylor-Wood.

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi clarified the status of the band's new CD in an interview with "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show". Although it has been reported that the band has recorded 15 songs, Iommi explained, "That's wrong . . . We've written 15 songs and we've played them all. But now, at the moment, we're recording them. We recorded them at my house first, in England, just as demos, but now we're doing them for real. So we're about six tracks in now, at the moment."

Iommi, Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler are recording their first album together under the SABBATH name since 1978's "Never Say Die".

The drums on the disc are being handled by Tommy Clufetos, who has replaced founding drummer Bill Ward due to a contractual dispute between Ward and the rest of the group.

Asked if there is any chance of Ward rejoining the band, Iommi said, "We'll always have a heart for Bill, but I think it's gone past that now, because it's gone on so long that I don't see that happening at the moment. Maybe at some point we might [play together again]."

Meanwhile, SABBATH has announced an Australian tour for next April and has also revealed that it will headline the first-ever Japanese version of Ozzfest on May 11-12, with SLIPKNOT also on the bill.

impressed! Not many can say they are still recording new music and touring at 64. good bad or otherwise.

Zepplin on Letterman, Sabbath in the studio, Rush touring, Kiss (well, Gene and Paul), still touring and putting out new music, just goes to show you the everlasting affect their music has had!

Does any other genre of music have that kind of longevity?

Jazz, Blues, Classical.... pretty much everything besides Pop I'd say.

Happy Birthday Ozzy!

Please don't ruin the sound of your voice with all that goddamn chorus effect!

It isn't going to sound like the "Classic" Sabbath without Bill Ward. The best we can hope for is something that sounds different but good, like in the vein of when Dio replaced Ozzy.

Longevity is good for as long as the output is good. I wouldn't say Ozzy's output has been any good in a decade, at least. He's living on reputation and status only. No one would hire him as a vocalist based on his abilities right now. Even Black Sabbath 2012, as a new band coming out, wouldn't do that good either. Heaven & Hell did well but they had Dio on vocals, which makes a huge difference.

I respect the whole legacy and legendary status but the reality is different. This new album will be average at best and we all know it.

Everyone get ready for Psychoman Part II. They're telling you it will be the new guy on drums but it will be a drum machine. And even if it isn't a drum machine Bill isn't involved so this is not the Sabbath album you're looking for...move along, nothing to see here.

I think some people are expecting the worst (or they want the worst) for this new Sabbath record. Yeah, it sucks that Bill isn't involved, but that's how it went down. People can say whatever they wanna about Rick Rubin, but if he is into you and gets behind your project recording-wise, he can get some inspired results. Rick co-produced the new ZZ Top album 'La Futura' with Billy Gibbons and it sounds raunchier, cooler; crackling with bad-ass'd heft and a groove. A really cool energy going on..

A lot has gone down since the announcement of the reunion: the Bill thing, Tony's illness... as well as the cool of still being alive and into it to bandy together and make a new record as Black Sabbath, even if it's just Tony, Geezer and Ozzy..

I have faith in this record, and how it will be. People are expecting so-so results now, but it will be interesting to see what people think once they actually hear and experience the new Sabbath album.

It's difficult for me to understand why everyone is so pissy about Bill Ward. Yes, having Bill on board would be the best footnote on this wonderful band because this is the last album. Bill helped define the sound just as much as the other three. However, Iommi is Black Sabbath. Period. Saying 'No Bill Ward, no Sabbath' is just plain stupid at this point. This isn't pro-Ozzy either. Dio has just as much right to the legacy that Ozzy does and HE isn't even officially considered apart of Black Sabbath. These dudes are in their mid 60's recording heavy metal. Music that they invented. Is it going to be Master of Reality Part 2?? Nope. It is however a new Black Sabbath album for 2013 with 3/4 of the original line-up. I'll take it.

Fuck that! Knowing that Bill Ward is sitting on a couch, yearing to play with his old band while they bring in some "other" guy. Fuckers are in their 60's, you would think they would have more respect towards their old mate.
It shows the power of money and greed.

Well, about 50% of his set from Ozzy's last solo tour was predominately Sabbath material, and Tommy was the drummer for the tour.. Hell, maybe they picked him 'cos he has that braided look that Bill Ward sported back in 1973! I just hope he drums his best on this new record. I can't imagine he wouldn't. I wouldn't wanna be the guy that fucked up the new Black Sabbath record, especially after waiting all of this time for it to happen.

Real drums, please. No drum machines. Peace!

Its a shame that Ward isn't a part of this, but I'll never get a chance to most of the original line-up, so be it! I'l be there.

Ozzy's drummer is the luckiest fuck out there right now.

I completely agree that not having Bill Ward in the band isn't right. Money and greed may indeed be the factor. (I can't comment on that or the state of Bill Wards's health or ability at this stage of his life.) Why is money and greed a factor now?? Iommi and Butler CHOSE to work with Dio over Ozzy. They sang the praises of Dio's musicianship and work ethic over Ozzy's. Dio died (RIP) and who are they working with now?? Yep, Ozzy. Why?? A Tony Martin fronted Black Sabbath wasn't going to pay the bills. Remember, it's still a business.

I'm 45, and I sit here and think about how F**in cool it is that the creators of Heavy Metal are still creating! The Big 4 are still kicking ass, and even Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are still around and making great music. How luck I am to have witnessed all of this unfold and everyone is still around! I miss Clif Burton, Randy Rhoads, an Dimebag very much to name a few...but thank god, METAL is alive and kickin! No end in sight- Metal will never die! Bang the head that doesnt bang!

People who expect it to sound like the 70s are delusional. They haven't recorded together in 34 years. That's a hell of a long time. They have changed, recording tech has changed (for the better or worse). Even though I doubt it'll stand up to Sabotage or Vol 4, I still think it'll be good considered they are not one of those tired bands who can't stand each other after decades of touring. They have a hell of a lot of experience they gathered each on their own side, and now they're trying to make sense of it with a new chemistry. Which is probably there considered how things are apparently moving fast (it's not GnR or Metallica)

No Cozy Appice.

Sorry...anyway, I'm really excited about the new Sabbath album. I do hope that it's more "rock" than not, you know...I'm going to be pretty disappointed if it's an ongoing fest of AWESOME Iommi riffs (which it's going to be) but ho-hum songs about Satan and the end of the world, utter doom 'n' gloom...Sabbath was always at it's best, for me, when it was just pure rock and roll without being overtly evil about it.

The following people have drummed for Black Sabbath.

Bill Ward
Vinny Appice
Bev Bevan
Eric Singer
Terry Chimes
Cozy Powell
Bobby Rondinelli
Mike Bordin
Shannon Larkin (1 night)
Tommy Clufetos

That said, it IS Sabbath without Bill. Does it suck? Yeah, but it's not the end of the world.
