THE DARKNESS On Yahoo! Music: Acoustic Performance, Interview - Nov. 30, 2012
British rockers THE DARKNESS recently stopped by Yahoo! Music to play acoustic versions of the songs "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", "Every Inch Of You" and "Love Is Not The Answer". The band also sat down for an in-depth interview. Check out the footage below.

THE DARKNESS's third studio album, "Hot Cakes", was released on August 21 via Wind-Up (North and South America) and PIAS (U.K. and rest of the world). After a seven-year wait, "Hot Cakes" — produced by the band's Justin and Dan Hawkins with longtime collaborator Nick Brine and mixed by Bob Ezrin — delivers the epic rock anthems and infectious pop choruses the band has become renowned for worldwide.

Since THE DARKNESSJustin Hawkins (vocals/guitars), Dan Hawkins (guitars/backing vocals), Frankie Poullain (bass) and Ed Graham (drums) — resumed active service more than a year ago on the main stage of 2011's Download festival with their original lineup, the British group have accomplished a lot. They've completed sold-out tours of the U.K. and North America; were featured in a Superbowl ad (broadcast to over 100 million viewers in the tense fourth quarter of the game); finished recording "Hot Cakes" and released a free teaser track and video, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us".

Forget about this stupid, feckin' uninspired reunion and re-form Stone Gods. Now THERE was a rock band with heart, and balls, and a whole lot of potential. But that's now been squandered, for this. I don't often accuse bands or artists of doing things SOLELY for the money, but this seems to be a 100%, unmitigated cash-in, and it pisses me off to no end. And no, don't get me wrong, I'm not just a Darkness hater; their first couple of releases were solid in my books. But this new one... it just sounds like watered-down AC/DC. Boring, un-inventive riffs, and some of the most safe, stale, cliche lyrics you could possibly use. Compare their new album to their old material, and it's clear to see their fall from grace. But, compare it to the fantastic Stone Gods material, and the divide in quality is even greater. Don't support this reunion; it's bereft of integrity and riddled in greed.

And for those who think I'm being overly dramatic, just stop and think about where I'm coming from before you try to shoot me down or categorize my words under 'whine/rant post'. We had a promising rock project which rose from the ashes of a band that fizzled out. This project - The Stone Gods - had real energy: something which is missing from most rock music these days. They had good chemistry, and I mean ACTUAL chemistry; not the synthetic chemistry that's fabricated through perfect studio productions. They had power without having to resort to mindless heaviness. They had brains too, and actual songwriting skills; they knew how to write music because they had the ability to THINK. They had everything that a good rock band should have. Just how many bands these days have the right mix of power, energy and intelligence? Not many any more; they're few and far between. But we had a great one in The Stone Gods. And hey, now it's gone, and we've got this rubbish instead; the band that split apart because things weren't working anymore, but who decided to reform because the reward was too enticing. And they've returned as a shadow of their former selves doing a half-arsed job.

Hoorah.

First album was a masterpiece.

Second album sucked.

New album ............ average to below average at best.

I'm sure their won't be a fourth.

could be true, I think the new one is pretty good...in this state of rock n roll, they may not get many more chances, but talentless? While he does go over the top at time vocally, he's got a spectacular voice.(though not everyone's cup of tea). He's also a very good guitarist, great performer....in my mind, leagues more talented than many bands/artist that this website constantly applauds.

they have a twisted sense of humor, and people seem to not get that, or feel its uncool. I guess you have to make mean faces and get chased around by monsters on stage in order to be given any credit on this site. Or sing in that phony operatic metal voice. Rubbish.

great live band as well.

I agree with "leagues more talented than many bands/artist that this website constantly applauds" but the new album just couldn't keep my attention in an era where basically everything that comes out sucks. I wish it didn't.
