LED ZEPPELIN To Guest On 'Late Show With David Letterman' - Nov. 30, 2012
On December 3, LED ZEPPELIN members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant will guest on the "Late Show With David Letterman" when the program broadcasts from Washington D.C.

LED ZEPPELIN, along with Letterman, are among the seven individuals who will receive the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. Other recipients to be honored at the 35th annual national celebration of the arts are: bluesman Buddy Guy, actor and director Dustin Hoffman and ballerina Natalia Makarova.

While LED ZEPPELIN is being honored as a band, keyboardist/bassist John Paul Jones, guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant will each receive the Kennedy Center Honors.

"With their extraordinary talent, creativity and tenacity, the seven 2012 Kennedy Center honorees have contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world," said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. "Buddy Guy is a titan of the blues and has been a tremendous influence on virtually everyone who has picked up an electric guitar in the last half century; Dustin Hoffman's unyielding commitment to the wide variety of roles he plays has made him one of the most versatile and iconoclastic actors of this or any other generation; David Letterman is one of the most influential personalities in the history of television, entertaining an entire generation of late-night viewers with his unconventional wit and charm; Natalia Makarova's profound artistry has ignited the stages of the world's greatest ballet companies and continues to pass the torch to the next generation of dancers; and LED ZEPPELIN's John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant transformed the sound of rock and roll with their lyricism and innovative song structures, infusing blues into the sound of rock and roll and laying the foundation for countless rock bands."

The Honors Gala will be recorded on December 2 for broadcast on the CBS network for the 35th consecutive year as a two-hour primetime special on Wednesday, December 26 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

It's likely there will not be a perfomance then I'm guessing. ...Still pretty damn cool.

So no award for John Bonham posthumously? If I'm reading that correctly that's total bullshit!

I'm sure Bonzo is getting honored, too. Led Zeppelin was a group, after all. Even so, that should be cool to see Pagey, Jonesy and Percy on 'David Letterman'.

...a song, or 2.

The Zep camp are such master businessmen that I wouldnt be suprised if we got a little tour after all. Everyone wont run out to buy the live DVD if they know you're coming to town in a month. But if that WAS the last show, its an all time must have. Win, win. Peter Grant was a very shrewd dude, and Im sure they all learned from him.

I'm a Zep fan as much as the next guy; but come on. I agree, they have a great legacy, a great discography with some of the most amazing songs written in their era; but they're anything but active. In the past 32 years; they've played 3 gigs, and have 1 live album. Since Jason "joined" in 1979, they had the NYC gig in 88, they played in 1990 at his own wedding, and the last one in London (07). Call it health reasons and whatever you want now, but they let a lot of fans down when they were still in their prime, with this "We're not playing. It's sacrilege!" kind of attitude.
Bitch about old heads like the Rolling Stones all you want, but they're still earning their money at least. These guys are going on in front of the public, just to talk anymore; but yet, get irritated and pissed off when fans ask about a reunion or anything? Well, yeah...that's what musicians do. I've always said bands like Zep were never in it for the money, but Robert Plant changed my opinion of himself lately. His ignorance to 'hard rock' and 'metal' is just one of the reasons.
I enjoyed Celebration Day for what it's worth. Although, they clearly sounded rough in some spots (whether you like to admit it or not), us fans still enjoy it. The only reason I critiqued the sound, was because they made this out to be a HUGE deal. It's only a one off show; the first in like 19 years-they better sound fucking fantastic!
I pity Jason the most; because he's a talented drummer! He definitely has his father's playing abilities (John being the power behind Zeppelin), and a true love for their music; which it seems Plant lost. If you want to go making country albums and whatever; but can't find the time or energy for the band that gave you everything; then don't go all over the world promoting a 5 year old live album with the band you don't ever think is going to perform again.
They have no serious illnesses. Tony Iommi was writing riffs while going through chemotherapy. Dio was singing live concerts with Heaven & Hell till the very end. BB King is playing live still and the man's in his later 80's for Christ sake. If Plant can't handle the vocals, admit it. I'd respect him for that; for at least giving us a more legitimate reason than the one's he giving. We understand world tours are much harder for people in your age; and no one's expecting a world tour. But you can't do a few dates here and there? A festival every now and again? What's the excuse in the 1980's, the 1990's? You weren't always old. I would never take away the accomplishments by these guys and the amazing work they've left behind; but I have much more respect for artists like Black Sabbath (both Ozzy and Dio), Motorhead (Lemmy just keeps goin), AC/DC, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, etc...The artists who continue to be creative for their fans with new material and deliver live high energy shows; even if it is much harder in their older age. They're the ones that really care about their music and their fans.
